ATLANTA, Ga.—Nebraska quarterback Zac Taylor has been nominated for the Cingular Wireless/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Week Award, it was announced Monday. Husker fans will have the chance to vote for Taylor through wireless text messaging.

The junior signal caller broke Husker offensive records with 36 completions and 431 yards passing, as well as 433 yards total offense, during NU’s 27-20 double-overtime win over Iowa State on Saturday. He also tied the school record with 55 pass attempts.

Taylor is one of four candidates for the All-America Player of the Week Award, who are selected by a panel of ABC Sports and ESPN college football analysts. The other finalists are: Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, who passed for 440 yards and three touchdowns in the Irish’s 49-28 win over Purdue; University of Michigan running back Michael Hart, who rushed for 218 yards and one touchdown in the Wolverines’ 34-31 overtime win against Michigan State; and University of Southern California running back LenDale White, who had 19 carries and a career-high of 197 yards and two touchdowns in the Trojans’ 27-20 come-back win over Arizona State.

Previous Cingular/All-America Player of the Week winners this season include Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley, Texas quarterback Vince Young, Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal and University of Minnesota running back Laurence Maroney.

This week’s award-winner now rests solely in the hands of college football fans nationwide. Fans have until Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 11:59 p.m. EST to submit their votes via wireless text messaging.* The winner will be announced Oct. 6 in the first half of the ESPN Thursday Night College Football Game between NC State and Georgia Tech. Fans can learn more about this week’s nominees online at www.abcsportsallamerica.com or at ESPN.com (keyword: cingular).

In December, fans will get a chance to decide who the best player in the nation is by voting for the Cingular/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Year. The selection process will culminate in December in a one-hour special on ABC Sports when the Cingular/ABC Sports Player of the Year and the Football Writers Association of America All-America team will be announced. Last year, University of Texas running back and Chicago Bears first-round draft pick Cedric Benson was selected by fans as the Player of the Year.
