slacker
How was an archaeologist in Britain able to deduce that the Romans drive their chariots on the left-hand side of the road? Quote Link to comment
TheOneAndOnly1
possibly by the wheels? since they drove on the left, that would mean left turns were shorter, and right turns were longer, probally showin a difference in the wearing down of the wheels. Quote Link to comment

rawhide
The side the driver stood on left a deeper rut? Quote Link to comment
TheOneAndOnly1
maybe the fact that most carried their sword in their right hand so riding on the left side was easier because oncoming riders would be on the sword hand side? Quote Link to comment

TheOneAndOnly1
Well maybe when they built things, if they brought stone and things from places to temples being built that would mean that carts going into a temple would be full of stone, and the ones leavin would be empty, meanin that once they come out they would be alot lighter, concluding the ruts on one side of the would be deeper than the other. slacker
WE HAVE A WINNER! CONGRATULATIONS TheOneAndOnly1! How was an archaeologist in Britain able to deduce that the Romans drive their chariots on the left-hand side of the road? The archaeologist was excavating a Roman quarry. The ruts in the road leading from the quarry were much deeper on the left than on the right. Since the chariots leaving the quarry were much heaver then those returning, he deduced that the Romans drove on the left side of the road. Quote Link to comment
