zoogs
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/10/09/magazine/obama-administration-big-food-policy.htmlA brief history of the Obama administration's batted-down efforts at confronting the food industry. Whenever the Obamas seriously poked at Big Food, they were quickly outlobbied and outgunned; the food movement still barely exists as a political force. It's kind of interesting, how things work. Resounding industry victories here. A key quote near the end -- "You can see why the president might have concluded that it would have been foolhardy for his administration to get too far out ahead of the culture on food issues." The next administration is likely to be less eager than that. On the flip side, culture change tends to bubble up; policy lag s rather than leads. So in the long run, maybe reason to be more sanguine. Although, as the article points out, there's a lot of sometimes opposed interests that make up the (barely nascent) opposition political movement. Link to comment
