beorach
The percentile ratings given per stat are relative to those for all teams in all games between FBS teams this season (meaning no games against FCS teams were considered). The 50th percentile is exactly average while anything less than double digits is absolutely awful. When I share percentile ratings for an entire category, I've averaged the percentile ratings for all the stats within that category to come up with them. When I share defensive and offensive rankings, I've only averaged the category averages for passing, rushing, scoring, and total categories (such that only turnover margin has been left out). Here are NU's individual stat rankings, across nine categories, for the 2017 season (and thank heavens I don't have to write 2017-18): Pass D stats completions per game 32 percentage 12 yards per attempt 51 touchdowns per game 50 rating 35 yards per game 56 Pass O stats completions per game 77 percentage 48 yards per attempt 50 touchdowns per game 69 rating 45 yards per game 78 Rush D stats yards per carry 6 touchdowns per game 6 yards per game 16 Rush O stats yards per carry 16 touchdowns per game 20 yards per game 12 Scoring D stats touchdowns per game 10 points per game 12 Scoring O stats touchdowns per game 40 points per game 39 Total D stats yards per play 18 yards per game 27 plays per game 58 Total O stats yards per play 44 yards per game 42 plays per game 43 Turnover Margin stats fumbles gained per game 7 interceptions gained per game 37 turnovers gained per game 13 fumbles lost per game 96 interceptions lost per game 5 turnovers lost per game 42 turnover margin per game 19 Average % for all these stats 35 Here are the B1G rankings of category percentiles through the regular season: PD 1 Michigan 2 Wisconsin 3 Michigan State 4 Ohio State 5 Penn State 6 Iowa 7 Indiana 8 Minnesota 9 Purdue 10 Illinois 11 Northwestern 12 Rutgers 13 Maryland 14 Nebraska PO 1 Ohio State 2 Penn State 3 Wisconsin 4 Nebraska 5 Indiana 6 Purdue 7 Northwestern 8 Iowa 9 Michigan State 10 Michigan 11 Maryland 12 Illinois 13 Minnesota 14 Rutgers RD 1 Wisconsin 2 Ohio State 3 Northwestern 4 Michigan State 5 Penn State 6 Purdue 7 Michigan 8 Iowa 9 Indiana 10 Minnesota 11 Rutgers 12 Illinois 13 Maryland 14 Nebraska RO 1 Ohio State 2 Wisconsin 3 Penn State 4 Michigan 5 Northwestern 6 Minnesota 7 Michigan State 8 Purdue 9 Iowa 10 Maryland 11 Rutgers 12 Indiana 13 Nebraska 14 Illinois SD 1 Wisconsin 2 Penn State 3 Michigan 4 Purdue 5 Iowa 6 Michigan State 7 Northwestern 8 Ohio State 9 Minnesota 10 Indiana 11 Rutgers 12 Illinois 13 Nebraska 14 Maryland SO 1 Ohio State 2 Penn State 3 Wisconsin 4 Northwestern 5 Iowa 6 Indiana 7 Nebraska 8 Michigan 9 Purdue 10 Michigan State 11 Minnesota 12 Maryland 13 Illinois 14 Rutgers TD 1 Wisconsin 2 Michigan 3 Michigan State 4 Ohio State 5 Minnesota 6 Penn State 7 Iowa 8 Indiana 9 Northwestern 10 Purdue 11 Rutgers 12 Illinois 13 Nebraska 14 Maryland TO 1 Ohio State 2 Penn State 3 Northwestern 4 Wisconsin 5 Indiana 6 Michigan State 7 Purdue 8 Nebraska 9 Michigan 10 Iowa 11 Minnesota 12 Maryland 13 Illinois 14 Rutgers Turnovers 1 Penn State 2 Northwestern 3 Purdue 4 Ohio State 5 Iowa 6 Wisconsin 7 Michigan State 8 Minnesota 9 Maryland 10 Michigan 11 Indiana 12 Illinois 13 Nebraska 14 Rutgers If I average the category rankings for all these categories, here's how the B1G stacks up overall: 1 Ohio State 87.40 2 Penn State 83.87 3 Wisconsin 82.48 4 Northwestern 65.30 5 Michigan 62.07 6 Michigan State 61.58 7 Purdue 57.79 8 Iowa 57.62 9 Indiana 51.18 10 Minnesota 44.83 11 Nebraska 31.06 12 Maryland 24.98 13 Rutgers 23.07 14 Illinois 22.93 If we really had a good passing offense on the season, you'd think we'd have been able to put up better numbers than a running team like Wisconsin overall. It's amazing that a Minnesota team, in "year zero," could put up numbers that are appreciably better than ours as well. This is one of the things I think about when those who sympathize with Mike Riley tell the world it shouldn't only be about the W-L record because it clearly isn't. Rankings for the entire FBS division follow: Rank Team overall 1 Ohio State 87.40 2 Alabama 86.96 3 Auburn 85.34 4 Penn State 83.87 5 Wisconsin 82.48 6 Georgia 81.40 7 UCF 80.23 8 Clemson 79.46 9
