12-Team Playoff On the Way; 14-Team to Follow

This doesn't surprise me. Watching the Stanley Cup playoff games this year they have bounced back and forth between ESPN & TNT depending on whether they have an NBA game on ESPN.

I guess Turner had money to burn after losing the NBA.  I think ESPN always does a great job with the production part of the CFP, hopefully Turner is up to the task (and we don't get Charles Barkley breaking down games).

Odd to me that Turner doesn't air any regular season college football or college basketball games, but airs postseason games.

I don't know the ins and outs, but it has got to be a ton more money and commitment to sign a contract with a league (especially one that has broad appeal) to air regular season games.  Probably not going to be able to contract one-offs-though I guess they could buy them like this from ESPN/Fox.  At the same time I also can't imagine anyone is selling off the 'big' regular season games.

Yep, and my hope is that college football brass sees how excellent these games are in a college football stadium instead of an antiseptic NFL venue and reduces the Bowl imprint to the semi-finals and final game.
I can't wait for 16 teams.

First round games at home sites!  My god, the atmosphere when NU hosts a playoff game????

Hell do first and second round games on campuses with the final four and championship at a "big" site.

YES!!!  And, warm weather teams having to come north.

I see we are still starting the Sugar Bowl at 8pm CST because of a mf'n sunset at the Rose Bowl.  Some things will never change.

To be fair, if the time of sunset at the Rose Bowl ever changes drastically, we might have much bigger issues than what time is kickoff...   :P

Rose Bowl only wants to hold quarterfinals so that it can keep its Jan 1 slot.  And it will always kickoff at 4pm CST (meaning the last quarterfinal game will kick at 8pm CST) because it needs to have the sunset hitting the mountains at the end of the 3rd Q.

This sucks because its one less post-season game in B1G country, or at least one less opportunity to force the Southeastern teams' fans to have to travel.

How do we not have 16 team playoff ?

4 games per side of a bracket (8 teams per side).  Play until you have a championship game that is earned.

With 12 team format, I just don't agree with bye weeks for the top chosen teams.

Who selects the top 4 teams and how is it decided ??  A committee (group of people and financial influence, TV recommendations, etc).

There will always be human error and bias and controversy.  Money will always be involved.  Advertising and TV will also be involved.  Even computer numbers will get crunched to help pick the top 4.

And I thought the single most important factor for deciding a national championship game was to avoid all the BS.  :LOLtartar

4 teams with same record ranked 1-4.  Who decides the pecking/ranking order and why is that ok?

Just wondering when a day comes when everything gets thrown away and smart people say "it's 8 teams, no byes, play ball" or... "it's 16 teams, no byes, play ball".

Which leaves us the question.....  how do you rank a team?  Seriously
