Cincinnati: What Did We Learn?

Nebraksa put up as many points against Cincinnati as the mighty Bowling Green Falcons offense did...

It looked like a different defense after Corleone went down with an ankle injury. He did not play the 2nd half. I think they played some backups in the 4th quarter when the game was pretty well in hand. Bowling Green got half their points then.
Him being injured was a big part of why Cincinnati struggled 2nd half of last year. A top 5 NFL draft pick has a pretty big impact on the D Line...

I know we love to use hyperbole to combat hyperbole as fans, but he is nowhere near a top 5 pick. Most big boards/mocks for 2026 have him in the early 3rd round range, and on the edge of the top 10 in DT's. I am seeing him ranked around the 70th best overall player. So while he is a very solid player and impactful, let's not act like he is Ndamukong Suh here.

If you Google more, his current projection is due to his sustained injuries. He was projected as high as #3 prior to being injured. On my cell or I would provide links. Can next week from the office.

I think we should add a thread, that posters must keep succinct…what did we learn from Cincy, added on to Akron, added on to HCU, added on to etc…that way we can keep track of what we think about the seasons progress.

Keeping it with brevity:

I think we learned from Cincy that our run defense needs work (DL especially). We have some decent skill guys, the WR can win a ball, we are better at that position. Special teams got better game 1.

Akron: still need some run fills and DL needs to improve still. Raiola hits open WRs for good completion %…EJ and Barney could be explosive. Need some work inside the 5yd line. Our DBs might be pretty good. Home field is an advantage. Our backup QB was a nice look.

HCU: ??

Mich: ??

Would be fun to see how our opinions change and what our glaring weaknesses from opponents week to week, plus our strengths as we watch our boys play out the season.

Maybe one week everyone blames the OLine. The next we are world beaters at DB. Next week Raiola is worst followed by Heisman talk.

Just a thought on these “what did we learn” threads.
