Concerns about the D and telling quotes

We have two games to get ready for Wis. Can Banker can fix the secondary by then, who knows. These next two games shouldn't be that tough, so I don't think we will really know till Wis. We may win as big as we did against S Ala, and still not have fixed anything, against a team with a real pulse. Tired of having to keep coming from behind, against the better teams.

GBR!!!

I don't f'ing get this.

Bo Pelini and John Papuchis were terrible defensive guys the last few years. And people are eviscerating Banker because he didn't get us a top rated defense within 3 games?
Prior ineptitude doesn't excuse current ineptitude.

This staff said they didn't want to tip their hand and they had solutions. They didn't. Sophomore Brad Kaaya watched some game film of Banker's elementary defensive scheme at OSU and careered it.

I'm certainly not calling for Banker's head, but that is alarming, and he needs to figure it out.

Kaaya had basically had the exact same game in 2014 and 2015. Last year he was a true freshman playing against Bo's vaunted passing D. This year he was a sophomore playing against Banker's soft passing D.

2014

28/42 359yds 3td 2int 64.6qbr

2015

25/42 379yds 2td 1int 67.7qbr

I'm not saying Banker > Bo or anything, just pointing it out that he torched us last year as well.

I certainly don't think any of us were happy with some of Bo's defensive performances of late. With a coaching staff change that touted years of experience, I was hoping for improvement. I'm cautiously optimistic that we will see that soon. Hopefully the theories about this defense stopping the run will prove beneficial in conference.

I wouldn't say he torched us the entire game. He had basically one good quarter.

The first quarter he was:

9-13 (69%) 141 yards 2 TDs

The final three quarters he was:

16-29 (55%) 238 yards (79 yards per quarter) 0 TDs and 1 INT

The first quarter sucked for Nebraska D. No question about it.

But, it wasn't a complete great game by Kaaya. They came to play and win in that first quarter and we didn't. After that, our team finally woke up. It wasn't that they ran the ball better or more after the first either. They gained 38 yards in the first and only averaged 31 yards per quarter after that.

3 games implementing a new defensive scheme does not equal ineptitude.

Oregon State Defense
2013-14 = 100th in total defense
2014-15 = 74th in total defense
2015-16 = 17th in total defense (without Banker)

Nebraska
2015-16 = 104th in total defense (with Banker)

Thats a 3 game sample size, not a full season.

And we have played tougher competetion than most teams thus far.

This stuff is great. I love how arguments develop and the thread devolves into a couple "ships passing in the night" arguments.

I question the original post - is our defense that easy to figure out just by watching Nate Gerry?

Oregon State has played whom, exactly?

Weber State, San Jose State, Michigan.

Surely an argument this obtuse is disingenuous. There's no other way, right? ...
