Does Spurrier hold a grudge from the ’96 Fiesta Bowl beatdown?

When's the last time you won your conference?

How many BCS games have you been to? (I'll go ahead and give you a hint UW has been to more)

If Edward Gibbon was still alive he'd write a book on you guys...
I love it...Wisconsin finally wins the conference a couple of times1 and suddenly they are some sort of great up-and-coming program. Once again...come talk to me next time either of your pathetic also-rans goes undefeated. Wisconsin has won the Big 10 five times in the last 50 years...congratulations. Nebraska has won the National Title and gone undefeated the same number of times in the last 50 years. Hey, were you alive in 1990, 1989, 1988? Tell me what it's like to go 1-10, 2-9, and 1-10 in consecutive seasons.2 Tell me what it's like to always be the red-headed step child of your conference.3 Nebraska has been one of the top teams in College football nearly my entire life. A couple of bad years, but we have never been one of the second-tier teams in our conference.4 Yeah, Wisconsin won the conference a couple of years in a row...but you are still Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State's5(and soon to be Nebraska's) little B**CH! So NU didn't win the B1G the first year in....we are still not like Wisconsin...playing way over our heads. Let's see how Wiscy does next year when their hired gun6 is gone at QB. If there is any program in decline, it will be Wisconsin. They have peaked, and I think that's why your panties are so tightly wound...you know it.
Oh so touchy...I must have struck a nerve.

1. We've won the conference more than a couple times. Since conference expansion UW has won the conference a quarter of the time.

2. I was alive and living in Madison at the time. Those were rough years no doubt but that's the era we developed so many of the great traditions that had your fans crying and whining the whole drive home to Lincoln so it was a good bit of fun.

3. We are a founding member of this conference...since 1896, that's a longer continuous membership than any of the other current football powers. We have 183 conference championships buddy. Red-Headed Step Child? That'd more likely go to the one institution that isn't in the AAU and came in with one of the sh!tiest endowments in the Conference. You would know more about that than I, you guys have been in what, five different conferences? Wherever you can scoop up those easy wins right? Nice to have you now that Texas chased you out of the Big XII I guess...

4. How do you fall to second tier when the only other power in your conference for oh-so-long was Oklahoma...you had no competition...

5. Penn State, good god man do some research before you post, just like your earlier claim implying that we've never had an undefeated season. Since I did mine here's a fun fact...Nebraska doesn't have a winning record against any of those teams you mentioned...including Wisconsin. While you're red in the face and looking that up you can add Minnesota to the list. 21-29 against the Gophers for your Superpower of the Plains.

6. This again? I thought HB and I solved this mainly because...oh I don't know... you have no proof? Oh that's right its a completely baseless accusation. That alone pretty much kills you on the "I can make a rational argument" front.

Look man really, its nothing personal I swear. I'm not even worked up about this, every so often I like to hash this out because its just a fun argument to have but I think if you took a step back you'd agree that NU is in decline as most HB'ers I've read have said in the past. I mean look at this and tell me your boys aren't slipping...

My God, this is pathetic.

First of all, Badgerfan, you choose to come here. If you don't like reading about our past, you don't have to come here. If you call us out, your not going to be very welcome. And if you think Nebraska will never win a B1G title, your crazy. Bo Pelini will figure it out sooner or later and then it won't be past, it will be present. I've defended you ever since you've been on this site, but I gotta tell you, when you said UW is far superior to NU in everything, that pissed me off. I'm trying to convince myself you said that to get 97 back, but Im not quite sure anymore with what you've been saying since you found out USC is playing NU.

Secondly, California Husker, I hate when Nebraska fans pull out the MNC card in every argument. Presently, we aren't in the national scene, no matter how much you say, we are Nebraska. That's all that matters right now, is present. The past is history and we need to focus on present and future. No other teams care much about Nebraska at the present time. Hopefully, that will change sooner rather than later.

Thirdly, how do you know Wisconsin has peaked? They have a good coach and good recruiting and I look forward to good games with them in the future. No matter how much you don't want to admit it, Wisconsin is, at present time, the best team in the B1G. And really, that is all the matters. What have you done for me lately type thing. We have no room to talk about UW cause they took us to the shed THIS year. I'm sure that won't be the case every year. I actually see a pretty even series with them.

Nebraska will get back eventually, maybe not to MNC status, but conference championship status, but that does not mean UW will not win a few also. One last note, everyone on this board uses the term MNC, not just fans of teams that have never won it.
Ah Po, understand I have a bit of troll in me. Do you really think that I believed that? Even I know that historically speaking...hell even outside of the past five years, UW can't hold a candle to NU.,

You know what PO...you argue it the way you see it and I will the way I see it. I think Wisconsin has peaked...I think that an 11-2 or 12-2 season is the best they are ever going to have considering the talent they have now and the obvious recruiting disadvantages...I guess time will tell. But I will warn you, I am always right about these things. And the term "MNC" is simply incorrect. You may not like the way the national championship is decided, but it is not a myth. It is the National Championship. Deal with it.

Actually we were #1 in 1997. We have a giant trophy with a crystal football on top of it to prove it. And yes, when you win three National Championships in four years, it is pretty hard to keep that up. And yes, we had some tough years from `04 - `08, but clearly we are moving in a possitive direction from our 50 year low period. And that is an assessment using YOUR facts.

Well look at my name, at times I'll root for you guys and the posters here are awesome but just like you I'm not going to pull any punches when it comes to defending my team and if in defending my team I feel like attacking yours...its gonna happen.

That isn't my "true" opinion of Nebraska. I wouldn't be posting here if that's all I thought, I by no means hate NU or think you're as worthless as my post would seem to betray. My actual opinion of your program varies from time to time and changes depending on how one frames the questions but overall its quite positive.

Okay, well you letting one guy get under your skin so much that your insulting the team every poster here loves. What if I went to a UW site, played cool for awhile and then wrote something like this about UW because one guy got under my skin. How do you think the other reasonable posters on that site would respond to me?

But I will warn you, I am always right about these things. And the term "MNC" is simply incorrect. You may not like the way the national championship is decided, but it is not a myth. It is the National Championship. Deal with it.
You can say the same things about Nebraska, with the talent we have now and recruiting disadvantages, we may only be an 11 or 12 win team.

Your always right about these things? Okay, I believe you...

How come the first time Ive even heard the term MNC is on this board if nobody except "fans of teams that have never won it" uses the term? Nebraska fans on this board use the term all the time, not just me or Badgerfan. Deal with it.
Yea the "MNC" bit was a slip up on my part. I've grown so used to using that term in recent times that its just kind of automatic. I wasn't intending to question the validity of the NC's that Nebraska claims.

Glad to know how you actually think of us...

I would fully expect to be ganged up on, virtually whiplashed and then possibly banned. It's not like I don't know what I'm doing, I just enjoy having this conversation at times. Just like once a week I like to argue with Knapp. I'm a jacka$$. I admit it, but its never personal, its always strictly football.

The HB response to my posts has been completely reasonable. I would only expect such replies with what I've written, hell maybe even more. Also its not like my desired result of this would be having you guys roll over and say "we suck and can never discuss history", I want you to argue your side of things and if I were you I'd be making the exact same points and most all of them have some validity. Its just that sometimes its nice to cut your teeth a little, throw your ideas out there and see what sticks...and I'll do it when UW or USC is being attacked. Come on, it keeps the board interesting.

If it really does frustrate, anger, or somehow make it so you don't enjoy the board I apologize. That isn't my intention.

Wisconsin Big 10 champions in the last 50 years

1962

1993 co-champion (did not have to play a ccg)

1998 three-way tie (did not have to play a ccg)

1999

2010 co-champion (did not have to play a ccg)

2011 won ccg

I guess that is a pretty good two year run (2010 & 2011)

Nebraska Big 8, Big 12 champions (by the way, Nebraska was in the same conference since 1908, they just changed the name when they added teams)

1963

1964

1965

1969 co-champions (did not have to play a ccg)

1970

1971

1972

1975 co-champions (did not have to play a ccg)

1978 co-champions (did not have to play a ccg)

1981

1982

1983

1984 co-champions (did not have to play a ccg)

1988

1991 co-champions (did not have to play a ccg)

1992

1993

1994

1995

Big XII

1996 played in the ccg

1997

1999

2006 played in the ccg

2009 played in the ccg

2010 played in the ccg

Wisconsin has only won the Big 10 outright 2 times in almost 50 years.

...and Nebraska has never won the Big Ten so your point is?..oh and to be honest the only numbers that really matter in this came out of one night this past October...48-17.

First, you should, because it's true.

Second, just because people use the term does not make it accurate. It is not mythical. It is actual. The champion is chosen and the title is awarded. As I said, you don't have to like the way it is decided, but it exists.
