Donovan Fired

Eh ... I think Ekeler is the only one you can really point to as being a noticeable improvement. MAYBE Holgorsen if you squint.

Tons of complaints about QBs so Thomas doesn't seem to have done much.
One of our WR portal guys was basically non-existent this year and the other mainly caught screens. Not to mention our downfield passing game being non-existant.
TEs? yeah....
Going on our third DC.
Lots of complaints about Bradden.
Maybe Williams but was it his coaching or the prevent-the-pass scheme?
What are the complaints about Braden? From the so called “insiders”, he does a great job in practice and is a stickler for technique. His position group was not good this year, but they were young, really young and small, playing in questionable schemes. Is that really on him? I am NOT arguing, but rather asking

For me, was there any improvement from game 1 to 12. Maybe lack of depth caught up with us, but we "looked worse" as the season progressed. Simply manhandled in the trenches on both sides.

here we go batman GIF

I would say the complaint I have heard is that since he was coming from the NFL he had to get acclimated to the college game. I understand he walked into a position room that was lighter and smaller but nobody knows how good his recruiting and developing guys is. His hire felt like a quick plug hire bc of the timing of how our other coaches left to go to Florida State.

We hired a guy as a “quick plug” that didn’t start working until mid February? Damn, I’d hate to see what a non quick hire would have been.
What I mean by that was bc of the timing of our coaches leaving IMO there weren't many strong d-line coaches looking to come here. I believe Matt Rhule settled with what he had presented to him.

No one can say Rhule is afraid to make changes. I sincerely hope both Dylan & TJ come back next year and battle it out in practice.

recruiting. 0 commits. Not for lack of effort which is the concern.

He got here late. Which is even more concerning that we couldn't find a college coach with previously made in roads and recruits or we just expected the transition to be seamless. Either way. The hire was a mistake.

No one is saying that but the coaches he hires have to be the right hires or other wise he is going to get fired. The coaches he brought initially with him have not turned out as great.

Is it possible that our next DC is actively coaching at a playoff team? There doesn’t seem to be any intensity to hire someone

The Toledo DC was offered the job and had been in town for an interview. That seems to have been our number one guy. I’m sure there is a list though. Just don’t expect a Wilcox or Leonhard.
