Dylan Raiola

There was some discussion in this thread in the past couple days over what mentality people had about his success/failure at his next stop.

What I don't think I saw get mentioned was that there's probably a subconscious desire by Husker fans to see him fail at his new school as a salve to our psyche to say "see, he sucks so it's good he left."
I don’t think he sucks/sucked.
However, I don’t think he was a great fit for Nebraska with the team we had around him. Not very good pass blocking and a room full of WRs who couldn’t get separation. Toss in his immobility and it wasn’t a very good mix.

I don’t want to say “see, he sucked”. I want to say, we’re better without him and I sure don’t want to be saying, **** DR killed us whenever we play against him. No hard feelings, just want us to get better and not be thinking it would’ve been better if he stayed.

For sure. I don't think he sucked, and I was actually fairly excited for what he could look like as a junior for us.

I'm including myself in the camp that probably subconsciously wants him to not tear it up at Oregon in the scenario where we regress without him, etc., etc. Pretty natural there I'd say.

NU fans need to mentally prepare for the reality that he's going to do incredibly well at Oregon and find a lot of success there individually, with the team, and onwards into an NFL contract.
I would expect this. He was good not great here. The OL under his uncle was a big part of our problem. What a cluster, we never got to see what he could do with good protection. He’ll have that at Oregon.

Exactly, his uncle did him no favors at all. When he has time he can hit his mark very well, when rushed he missed it a lot and when your wr's are not getting open and you have no wheels at all there's nothing to do but throw it where you wouldn't normally, take a sack, or throw it away.

The numbers suggest the O-Line wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. I have no doubt DR will have success but some of that will be in eliminating some of the problems he had holding the ball too long and making better decisions on when to get rid of the ball.

Carriker said that we upgraded with Colandrea over DR. With our "scheme" and talent, I'd agree. I'm biased towards a mobile QB. Opens up more opportunities to avoid sacks and pressure. Easier to scheme rolling out, sliding protection etc...

What I care about 10x more than that is whether Colandrea fits in and tears it up for us next season.
I'll say it. We look much better with him at QB next year than in any year with DR. His numbers ie completion percentage might be lower and INT's up, but there will be a noticeable positive change.

The way I see it, 50% of HB posters should be celebrating right now. I read all season about how he doesn’t throw deep, sitting duck, can’t progress through reads… WE WANT TJ… welp, celebrate, because if he was as bad as some said, we should be pumped to line up against him!

Truth be told, I bet they are secretly scared crapless, bc they know he may very well carve us up and will show that he was truly a loss!

And he did his uncle no favors.
Like I said, a cluster in both directions. Family feud uncle and nephew who’s to blame? The OL couldn’t protect, DR can’t get rid of the ball or escape, our WRs can’t get the separation. What a mess. Even if he doesn’t improve his mobility or ball holding his situation is better because he will have more time and better weapons. Like it or not, Oregon has created an environment where QBs thrive and get to the league. I suspect he’ll do well but the Ducks fans have high expectations for their QBs given what they are used to.
