They have the money, but refuse to spend it like other programs. I’m sure the bean counters are satisfied with 6-8 win seasons and bowl appearances. To Hell what the plebs want. We haven’t taken winning seriously around here since solich was booted. Until there is a salary cap, those that spend the most will win the most.

I think it’s safe to say the marriage to the Raiola family was over.
Dom upset with play calling for TJ in UCLA game (a game we won).

Dylan hits the portal.
This ain’t rocket science. Seems it was a done deal as soon as Dom was displeased that QB2 showed a good result. Pretty much a no win position. Donnie couldn’t protect Dylan, Dylan couldn’t protect himself and papa wasn’t happy. I don’t see how Nebraska or Rhule changes any of that without a time machine and a better OL. It is what it is.

If they were not already rich, my guess is he would stay at NU and bank.
But they are rich and DR is rich, so they can shop around for what they think is the best spot to help him get to the NFL

So what if TJ Lateef has a good or possibly great game against Utah?
Does that confirm that the highly recruited Lateef was a major landing for Nebraska and prove how important it is to have a QB in waiting? Because if you're going to the portal you have to be promising (and paying) an established QB to hit the ground as next fall's starter. That's where Lateef would check out.
My guess is that Lateef will play okay in a loss against a superior team and we will create a different thread to discuss chronic quarterback insecurity.

I think QB's from not rich families are doing the same thing. A kid has a small window to score generational wealth and finds himself surrounded by hungry family, agents, and advisors who aren't about sacrifice earning potential for team loyalty.
Just came across this factoid from Sports Illustrated:
Of the top 50 high school quarterbacks who signed with FBS programs in the recruiting classes of 2017 through 2020 — according to the 247Sports Composite rankings — 126 of the 168 players tracked had transferred at least once during their time in college. That's 75 percent.

And I am assume if you include more recent years (when they don't need to sit a year) that percentage would be higher.
It shouldn't be surprising anymore that QBs transfer. Good QBs, bad QBs, QBs who are starting, QBs who are on the bench. It's just what happens nowadays. Thinking any QB is going to stay at a school for 3 or 4 or 5 years is a fool's errand.

Definitely a chunk because sports talk is a toxic wasteland, but I'm not sure how large.
A very large chunk of NU fans supported Dylan Raiola wholeheartedly and many continue to wish him luck in his journey to win games and make money outside of Nebraska. TJ Lateef got a lot of love for stepping in and looking good against UCLA, and not much blame for the blowouts to Penn State and Iowa. No matter what SuperBigFan69 and KCR might say, Nebraska fans and media are more forgiving than most fanbases.
It'll be the eye test for me. A month to create a game plan around Lateef and the absence of Emmett Johnson vs a ranked team however motivated and let's see how it plays out. If they don't bother to call designed QB draws or other dual threat plays I'll presume they're not that hot on TJ and probably won't be looking for a dual threat in the portal.

I tend to analyze stuff in terms of odds; what are actual odds that get a QB as good or better than Raiola? I’m thinking those odds are lower than most think, because I think Rhule’s schtick is ran out of gas heading into year 4, personally.
B-U-T, I’m seeing people floating the idea that Dylan was going to leave pretty much no matter what. If that’s true, please throw out everything I’ve said.

Yeah, if Dylan was leaving pretty much no matter what then my train of thought originally was useless.
It’s going to be really interesting to see who we can even snag from the portal at QB.

Just so we’re clear, what you did there is a great example of making a straw man out of somebody’s argument.
The train of thought I was on was, where’s the balance between risking not having a QB that’s at least as good as Raiola if he leaves and then banking on what kind of magic Geep Wade can even perform.
Again though…everybody is now saying Raiola was leaving no matter what.
To the topic of our line play though: I think the majority of Husker fans have a subconscious preset (even more than other fan bases on average) to say that when we lose a game, it’s because our offensive line sucks.
It’s this knee jerk reaction kind of thing.
The “yards before contact” stats this year show we were actually a good run blocking team.
Now, pass blocking? Yeah - it was consistently pretty bad.
