Husker QB - TJ Lateef

I loved this, but can’t emphasize enough how much I agree so I’ll throw words at it.

And I think we’re 8-2 if DR doesn’t get injured
Curious what you see in Dylan to think that. I think TJ throws better, def runs better, and that alone gives us chances. I don’t think Dylan throws that well. He throws screens and 3.2 yd passes. He hangs everything up. I don’t think we even beat UCLA with Dylan. But I’m curious about what others see. Dylan makes better decisions than past QBs but he’s not a top 40 or anything. That bar was super low and I’m not sure we’ve played many QBs I wouldn’t rather have

We win against USC if Dylan isn't hurt for one. Tonight's performance should prove that TJ does not throw better in the slightest. He made some good throws for sure, but he also missed some wide open receivers including several times where the line gave him ample time to find an open receiver and he just couldn't connect.

If you really think Dylan is not a Top 40 QB, I beg you to stop watching college football or, at the very least, stop publicizing your opinions on QBs. If Dylan were behind the lines at schools such as Ohio State, Georgia, Indiana, Penn State, etc. he would be in Heisman contention with a playoff-bound team. Dylan will be QB1 here throughout his tenure whenever he isn't injured.

Dylan has done this all year long as well.. just saying..

And here within lies the real issue.. Donovan hasn't produced a line that ANYONE can play behind.

I think we can slow down the hype train a couple of gears.

If you think TJ throws better you're blind as a bat. Dylan struggles on the long ball placement (probably the hardest throw at any level) and has some miscommunications on option routes, the more technical aspects of being a QB. TJ was sailing short and intermediate throws all night last night with good protection, the basics. Dylan can also go through an entire progression in a play, TJ is locked into his first read and lucky if he find his second before he scrambles. Dylan is one of the top passers in the country with crazy good accuracy, decent yards and and TDs. His arm talent is elite as far as placement and throw angles, and his decision making is very good for a Sophomore.

Dylan would have taken 4-5 sacks and most likely had 1 turnover... Highlighted made me giggle just a lil bit... okay a lot..!!

Dana had 2 weeks to scheme in TJ's assets and he called the same game as if Dylan was in...

Well my daddy said Dylan would have thrown for 500 yards and 6 TDs with no turnovers.

Pretty sure we don't call too many QB draws (I can think of one all season) and zone reads when Dylan is in.

And since Dylan has NEVER done that I'm guessing your daddy would be wrong...

If you think those few play calls were a tailored scheme designed in 2 weeks to compliment TJ, than id have to question YOUR football IQ...

Agreed. I’m lazy but I’d be interested in seeing the YAC comparison on non-screens between the two. TJ was completing passes but missing the precision to lead receivers into a lane in stride. It’s clear as day that Dylan is a better pure passer than TJ. Maybe some debate about a complete QB with the run game and sack prevention included, but there’s no question in my mind that I’d rather have DR as our starting QB against Ohio next September.

How is it “clear as day”? You comparing who is better throwing 3 yard routes or check downs to EJ?

I mean there is noticably more true RPOs, real zone reads, and QB draws are a part of the normal play selections (maybe even more sprint outs but idk). Seems tailored to a QB who is highly mobile if you ask me.

Dylan can sure throw a screen pass better than most. However, he has missed a lot of wide open receivers for TDs. His long ball, rarely seen, is not great. When he does connect those they typically have to stop and get tackled on the spot. His avg air yds per attempt are the lowest in fbs in many games. He can’t run (behind this line we need that and his uncle has been the coach for yrs so let’s not pretend we’re just gonna fix that). In college, for most teams, you have to be able to run to be good. He’ll never be great but he is def a serviceable qb. People showing stats like yds per game are just living in shadows of reality. He throws screen passes. Many fbs QBs can do that well. Without that, he doesn’t do much. Just looks better than the last few because of turnovers. Against PSU, we don’t even get to the red zone but once (cuz of EJ run) if DR is qb.

Dylan struggles on anything over 10 yds. He does go thru progression better than TJ (but TJ has played two games against way better teams than DR started with). DR can’t scramble, so he doesn’t - he takes sacks cuz he has to. His accuracy and yds are great…cuz he throws 95% screens. His decision making is good, outside of holding the ball so long but, again, it’s because he runs prob a 5.9 40. I don’t hate him at all but he’s nowhere near a top QB and we need to realize it
