Husker QBs

I have been wondering for awhile now....how many Quarterbacks have acutally played (and start) for nebraska all four years and yes with a redshirt as well? Tommie Frazier comes to mind...but Eric Crouch didn't, neither did Scott Frost. Joe Ganz had to wait for ever and still had to watch after Sam Keller was done. Martinez...his two year term is up this spring...should we vote for another 2 more years?....my vote is YES!

It has been a while since we have had a QB return to start in year 3. At least this will be the same "offense" for Martinez. We have changed philosophies like a baby with a dirty diaper ie every time it stinks. Hopefully Beck will look at last year, see what worked and what didn't and come up with a style/system/scheme that works most of the time against multiple D's who give multiple looks. We need to find out bread and butter and then design plays around that.

From players comments, it appears that we are way ahead as far as knowledge of the O and the "installation" of it. I saw a lot of brilliance last year, but an equal number of busts as well. Beck needs to call plays to the strength of Martinez and the team. If something is working, stick with it until the D stops it. I would also like to see us develop a killer instinct on O as well. Always play to win whether the score is 35-0 or 28-27. We seem to get conservative, go into a shell and play not to lose. One thing that helped the Huskers of old was the previous season beat downs they delivered. Teams have a way of remembering the beat down and you start to get into their heads. Hang 50+ on a conference opponent and it helps the next time you play. We just don't have that mentality. This also allows us to get up enough in games to get the backups some quality time. I do not agree with running up the score, but I do think it is our staff's job to play until the other team stops us. If Bo is adverse to hanging 50+ on a team, bring in the back ups. Don't do it with conservative play calling.

should be interesting to see if the O finds an identity this season, being multiple last season meant being really good at nothing........

If I ever hear the word "multiple" to describe this O I will puke.

Multiple has moved to Louisville.....

I'm beginning to think me and a few others are the only ones encouraged by the apparent direction of this offense.

I have no idea why everyone still thinks we were too multiple last year. If anything we weren't enough, and Bo has said he wants more balance (so there! :D )

It seems like little more than carryover pessimism from a previous era, complete with carryover catchphrases to criticize, while having little in common with reality.

well, when you figure out what the apparent direction of this offense is, please let Beck and the rest of us know.......

I like this offense as well. I just want them to cut down on the number of self-inflicted mistakes. I would say eliminate them entirely but I know that's impossible.

I like the direction, BUT more diamond, more two TE sets, less true option, more zone read. Last year it seemed we tried too much ie Wisky (passing)or went away from what was working. Last year Beck put tons of stuff on film. This year I hope he sees what works (within the abilities of the players) and sticks with that, doesn't try to make the kids do things they have issues with and play to strengths of the team that should be evident to him and find a way to get the ball into the play makers hands even if they only know 5 plays. Speaking of only five plays, I would love to see him find something that we can run (pass) in our sleep and still move the ball consistently regardless of the D scheme. I am tired of holding my breath on 3rd and short and realize that we cannot consistently move the ball in those situations. (2011 #50 in the nation, Wisky #1)

I too would like to see more of the diamond. hell i would love for that to be our base O. it work when we ran it but i dont understand why beck didnt use it more we have the speed in all the areas for it to work so why not use it. I just wish beck would come out and say here is the base O we are running so we can stop guessing til the spring game. hell last year i still didnt know what kind of O we were running thru the season i would guess then beck would change it up the next week.

Just curious, when is the last time we have had a 4-year starter at any position aside from specialist? One doesn't immediately come to mind for me.

SO I guess Martinez will be the First ever to start(a game) as a Freshman and end as a Senior....with/Redshirt?

Fabian Washington and Josh Bullocks both went pro rather than starting a 4th year. Osborne rarely started freshmen, partly because he had so much talent and depth, so I don't think you'll get too many from his time. Seems like we've had some receivers start a game or two as freshmen (Fluellen, Cooper) and maybe one of them has started at least a game each year, but I can't think of any I'd consider regular starters.

Oh, how about Compton? 8 starts as a RS freshman, 4 coming back from injury as a soph, 11 last year. Cotton got 1 start as a freshman.
