Michigan and Harbaugh under NCAA investigation

Word is that Michigan knew about this situation for a couple of weeks and delayed acting on it until after signing day. If that is true, that is absolutely disgusting. I would be livid if my kid signed on with Michigan and they knew this was going to blow up on them. I would think the school should be held accountable for that, right?

I would think they can all get released just like the Iowa State guys are

It is very likely that the upper administration knew what was going on for quite some time, but it would have been inappropriate to make anything public until an investigation had been completed. But to your point, my question would be when was the investigation completed? And given the nature of the specific allegations (which we don't know quite yet), would a typical employee have been suspended during the investigation? Because these investigations usually take time, so I'm guessing the allegations were known internally for quite a while. If they were just following their process, that is one thing, but if the school intentionally delayed the findings or allowed him to keep working while there was a risk of further harm, this scandal is just getting started.

With cases like these, I am always curious about how the school handled things procedurally. Many of the scandals of this type in college sports include people failing to report things that should have been previously reported, or the school screwing up by stepping outside of their normal process. The investigative process is more interesting to me than the actual stupid thing the coach did.

Sounds like the investigation was way before the season, but both parties denied the relationship so they closed the investigation and moved on. I have to assume the investigators/administration knew the denials were BS, and I'm sure they could've proven something if they had wanted to. So depending on your level of conspiracy belief, either new information came up (there are rumors about what this was) that they didn't have previously, or the season was disappointing enough that the administration wanted to move on so they "found" the evidence they hadn't previously had. But it reflects very poorly on the administration that they definitely had reports of this specific misconduct and investigated it months earlier without taking action, and that's why others could get dragged into this.
