No Rumor, No one has spoken with Bo

These coaches get a small portion of what they actually earn for each game, so in the University's eyes, they aren't forking out much for the game. They make more than 5.5 million in ticket revenue every game, plus TV contracts and the venues. I am not sure how much they get paid for away games, but I know for a fact its in the millions somewhere. Next year, Nebraska will get over 6.5 million for home games, bringing in about 52 million dollars in home games alone. I think they can afford what they pay easily. Many of your professional columnists and former coaches will tell you how stressful a HC position in FBS/FCS is. Your working 18hr day shifts. Getting up at 4am and getting home long past dark. Thats why these coaches work their tail off to become an NFL coach, where its much easier. No recruiting, just team management.
You make it sound like the coach is the sole reason the revenue comes in.
How does it even remotely sound like that? I think you are reading it completely wrong. I am just saying that the coaches get a small portion of what comes in and how stressful the job really is. Its not a job that is cut out for anyone, and that is why many of them work their way up to the NFL, so they get paid more, with less work, IE recruiting.
Indiscriminate use of "they". It sounded a lot like "they" referred to "these coaches". Apparently it refers to the universities. I had to read it a few times to get that.

You guys are awesome. Once again going the extra mile to provide some serious lulz. I salute you.

I support large salaries and understand market forces (some serious lulz there, still laughing actually). If that makes sense to you in the context of my OP, then you understand what I'm saying. If not, post on, I'm liking it!

The huge sports salaries across the board - college & pro - are based almost entirely on the huge television contracts the Leagues and Conferences have negotiated over the years.

For that $3 million, Bo Pelini can afford to smile when answering a stupid halftime question.
I'm sorry but this is just petty. Because he works a high stress job and gets compensated for it...let's throw all that out the window because he gets grumpy when his team is underperforming and knows he's the one that will be held accountable for it? The coaches don't need to have solid PR skills. Does it help? Sure. But the guy is still winning a lot of games here. He wasn't hired to be mr charisma.

coach sMiles was hired for that.

Lol, it does refer to the universities. Coming from my side, as I wrote it, it sounded clear. My apologies if it wasn't 100% :)

I think "petty" better describes Mr. Pelini in this case, eh?

Nowhere do I suggest "throwing it all out the window" and plenty of coaches lack charisma (good lord was Tom Osborned dull) but Bo dials it up a notch by being a bit of a d!(k. To the people who are paying his salary.

Being both the face of the University and head recruiter, it factors into the bigger Pelini picture, as it should.

(And yeah, most people would overlook worse if he was kicking Wisconsin's a$$ 70 - 31)

Case in point, people overlook it with Bielema. Bielema is a DB, but he took far less grief over it because he was either losing close games or delivering the whooping. Bo's teams get thrashed, thus his antics are far less acceptable.

If Hedley has some inside info on stuff that is great but when he post it in a manner like he hates everyone on the staff or football team then yeah people are going to say stuff.
I don't hate anyone on staff or the team. Do I think several or in over their heads? Oh heck yes I do. NU doesn't need to train a coaching staff. What other top 10 programs train most of their staff on the job? That's my problem with the staff.

The players I have no issue with. They are here because of the staff. If they are struggling etc I blame the staff. You may say well players will make mistakes. That is correct but making the same mistake for 12 games is no longer the players fault. That should be corrected and if it isn't there should be someone else to sub in.

We Don't have depth at many important positions so we can't sub in. Again who does that fall on? The coaching staff.
I guess it all depends on one's definition of top 10 programs, but OU did it when they hired Bob Stoops. Notre Dame did it when they hired Charlie Weiss.
Don't forget good ol' Gerry Faust..... :hmmph

Lol At this point I don't think people would be happy with Saban, guy makes more than Bo, and gets even more feisty during halftime/post game.

Sheesh.

Bo's name is talked about in other schools "coaching" searches, but he doesn't actively look to leave Nebraska, but from what I know, he does inform the school when someone provides him with a "lucrative" offer. Schools go to him, rarely is it the other way around

PS Bo would be at Ohio State right now, if he wanted to be, surprised you didn't know that from your big time booster. :)

I'm a 49ers fan and we are going through some of the same stuff with Jim Harbaugh. He makes no attempt to hide his hatred of press conferences and reporters in general, blaming the media for stirring up controversies and acting exasperated that people have questions at all. Dating back to his Stanford days there are all sorts of anecdotes about how arrogant and offish he could be. But holy crap, can he coach.

But if things go south, it won't be pretty.
