First thing I said, Bo Pelini 2.0i wonder if Penn state has nebraskad itself. they fired a coach who had them in the CFP last year. they might be starting a 20 year journey similar to what we went through

The scandal is a black eye for sure ... but some of our loudest fans praise SEC teams that were all-white until the 70s. So ...I’ve never thought Penn State was all that good of a program to be honest. The scandal is a historical black eye too. Just a few weeks ago they were in overtime with a top team in the country. Not sure I have seen a shorter faster demise. Thar d-coordinator who moved over from OSU must be going WTH?!
I didn’t realize until Franklin’s firing that outside on 1 recruiting year, they averaged around 15 for the recruiting rankings each year. And they were able to make the semi finals and be a perennial top 10 team. I know they had a bad record against other top teams, but does go to show recruiting at a top 10-20 program year in and year out should lead to great success (at least way better than what NU has experienced).Yeah Penn St. is good program by most of the metrics one would use to compare them to their peers and they've objectively been more relevant on the football field (in a good way) over the last decade. I also think most college football people would probably view that as a better job than Nebraska right now. They certainly have a geographical recruiting advantage, but they also invest a ton into football and NIL. They want to be a top dog in college football as much as Nebraska does.

FWIW...i wasn't thinking of Bo when i said that. i was thinking of when Frank was firedOne thing Pelini and Franklin had in common was a really dismal record against ranked opponents, to the point where it defined them as coaches. That's why nobody gave Franklin credit for playing Oregon close -- this was the year he was supposed to finally get them over the hump. Who knows what he might have done given a year to lick his wounds, but getting slapped by a winless UCLA in his bounce-back game, then humiliated at home against Northwestern is a full scale embarrassment. Curious what the ratio of Franklin supporters is among the Penn State fanbase, but I wouldn't call firing a successful coach "Nebraskaed" given how many programs have a short leash and quick trigger these days.
And while I'm sure Franklin can take some comfort in the massive amount of money he will get paid for doing nothing, I guarantee you he is not sleeping well and wakes up depressed as hell. If he's laughing all the way to the bank, then he wasn't a competitor after all.
