Portal QBs

The 'do not contact' rules also don't apply to agents, unless I'm missing something. So while it's against the spirit of the rule, it's not against the rule itself for other teams to let the agent know what they have to offer. And the agent can talk to the player whenever they want. So it's really unenforceable, and the only way to break the rule about not contacting players is to contact them directly.

Soo umm nobody going to question how a QB with a no contact tag suddenly decides he needed to flip to Kentucky out of the blue? A day after Kentucky loses their top QB target..
To me, it's pretty clear that he was already talking to Kentucky when the portal opened even though he had the no contact tag.

And then there are probably still no rules from backing out of that document.

If reports are to be believed, he had our documents in his hands but didn't sign. And when Kentucky backed up a dump truck full of cash to his house he signed at the drop of a hat.
You are correct. With no limits on transfers, and with the portal window open, a player could conceivably sign with one school and enter the portal again the next day. Crazy times...

But just to be sure...for the 2026 season, after 01/16 there's no transferring to a different school and then being able to play for 2026, correct?

Pretty sure the answer is "no" but just want to be sure. :)
The tough part is it seems like they just make crap up as they go. They aren't, but it sure does feel like it.

And just to be sure, here's a question: As long as a player is in the portal by 01/16/2026, can they still transfer to another school right up until the class enrollment window at the new school?

Like, they can transfer all the way up to mid-summer, right?

Yeah I think I'm wrong about what I wrote originally, so I made an edit using this post.

Yes and Yes

As of yesterday USF got 10 transfer portal commits.

Note that USF is currently losing more than twice as many players as they're gaining from the portal.

Right, and if the kid doesn't have an agent, you go through some other intermediary like their high school coach.

To me, it's pretty clear that he was already talking to Kentucky when the portal opened even though he had the no contact tag.

Probably, but not necessarily. It could have been a last minute move by Kentucky, and as above they just went through his agent to get around the no contact tag.

AFAIK you actually don't have to use the portal at all to transfer - you just do it the old-fashioned way.
