Pre-Season Coaches Poll Released

Earlier in this thread someone made the point that preseason polls actually do matter. They matter in that the teams on it get talked about. I tend to agree, and I also think that getting talked about (by the national media) is important to us as fans, but also for recruiting.

Nebraska's and Oregon's positions set up an interesting week three scenario. Despite the Vegas line, the narrative around the game will be that Nebraska is a heavy underdog. IMO that will make a win more dramatic. Assuming we win, of course.

i feel pity for those fans that have to spend all day every day of the year pissing and moaning about a bunch of kids not playing up to their expectations. life is to short and to full of other pain to devote your life on a jihad devoted to crying about Nebraska football.

All the fairy tale stuff gets us nowhere.

The only way we'll ever get to where we want to be is to deal with reality... face it head on.
You want reality? You're enraged that you're not getting perfection from kids just past puberty, who haven't figured out sh#t in their lives except they're pretty decent athletes. They don't have jobs, mortgages, responsibilities or in any way resemble fully assembled adults. You get pissed when they fumble a football or miss a tackle, when they're really supposed to be studying for an algebra test. You complain when they don't execute perfectly when the reality is they barely know their a$$ from a hole in the ground.

Some of these guys don't even shave yet. Some of them have never experienced love or loss, or life on anything other than a superficial level. They sound like adults and you believe the fantasy that they're somehow going to perform like grown men because you watched SportsCenter for ten years and that's what they show.

You've forgotten what a fuckup you were at 20 years old, how you couldn't talk to a girl without wetting yourself, all the while expecting a guy aged 19 to break three tackles to get a first down because goddammit you bought a ticket and you're under some delusion that that grants you some kind of power.

You expect coaches to get all these post-hormonal kids to perform without flaws, basically herding cats, and when they don't you whine and moan and ramble on about "fairy tales" as if you have half a clue what any of these people are doing.

Among 120 teams, ten have a half decent season by your standards, and when Nebraska doesn't you b!^@h and bark at the coaches and players like you've personally been aggrieved. More than 90% of teams every year don't have a season that meets your expectations, but rather than accept the norms of college football you complain on and on about it, bemoaning your lot in life that you chose a team that - GASP! - loses.

Woe is you.

Who cares where you want to be? Who cares what you think reality is?

Dude you got issues

This was meant ironically right?

Hurling insults at the players is knappic's deal not mine. This person has taking insulting the players to a new level. All in a self serving attempt to make excuses.

As I said on another thread ... and I will quote myself : "It's not the fault of the players... that's for sure. Their (they're) playing their hearts out."

I believe in accountability and responsibility. And the responsibility for our program no longer performing at an elite level lies with those at the top of our program. I will quote myself again from the same thread : "It's the fault of those at the very top of our program. The ones making the decisions." My words and what I've said, cant be any more clear... any more easy to understand than that. Again, there's that reality thing so many people are having a hard time dealing with.

My quotes from "Big Ten Coaches Talk Anonymously" thread ... comment #17...4 days ago.

psycho.....try reading his post again. it doesn't say what you think it says.
Try writing in your own words...

What someone else has said about me or anyone else means nothing to me... especially if it's coming from another excuse maker.

You want to talk reality? Reality is that Knapp is right, very few teams have the kind of season you are demanding the Huskers have. We all want those types of seasons but most of us are a little more reasonable about it than you seem to be. The program has been in a down cycle but it will come back, it always has before.
Well... we used to have those types of seasons... just not any more.

Attempting to get back to that point is what the last 18 years... 4 different coaches... 3 different athletic directors... gazillions of dollars spent... and gazillions of words written and interviews held and opinions spoken about what we need to do to get back to that point... has been all about... in case you hadn't noticed.

But then again if you admitted that you had noticed that... then you wouldn't have that as an excuse.

Sports is about performance. It always has been and always will be. It's ok... nothing to be afraid of.

i see the Husker Psycho Jihad is in full swing again this morning. Be prepared for another full day of pissing and moaning about the huskers.

Not me... I'm just responding to other peoples comments.

And I'm responding to the original post of the thread that has the coaches putting us as coming in at 38th place this season.

You see... there's a whole lot of people commenting about the Huskers... and a lot of it is pretty sobering. But you all are desperately trying to make me the subject... so you can have another excuse.

We need to get back to earning praise for our performance on the field... where it counts. The responsibility for that lies with those at the top of our program.

People expressing their opinions happens everywhere, not just here. Ever heard of the sports media ? They make a living doing just that. Ever heard of talk radio ? They make a living doing just that. Ever heard of the coaches poll ? Yep.. another opinion about the Huskers.

But you try desperately to make me the issue... to blame me... so that way you have another excuse.

I don't respond that that kind of stuff. I will continue expressing my opinion whether you like it or not.

If you have something to say, then say it. But just making comments about me will get you nowhere.

I think we've only spent millions or billions of dollars over the last 20 years, but I could be wrong. Here I am just making excuses...

I like this board. The conversation is generally smart and informed, the posters have their own angles, several are pretty damned funny.

I just don't see anyone promoting fairy tales, making unfair excuses or not caring about the Huskers enough.
