Rob Aurich Hired as Defensive Coordinator

Move this if necessary but talking about Defense - plays that work vs scheme. This is the mindset I hope for from Aurich (and Offense too)

New alignment, same issue. The defense needs legit 1 & 3 techs. Conversely, there are a few Jacks on the roster who don't seem to be natural transitions to DE or ILB, & from the little I've seen I would expect the Nickel to return to being a hybrid S.

It was encouraging to hear Rhule admit that most of the guys who played 3 tech at times this year (Davis, Lenhardt, Pietrzak, Nwaneri specifically) are better on the edge, and I assume that means they plan to keep them out there more. Was kinda worried the staff were still deluding themselves into thinking those guys were the answer on the inside. So we have to at least be planning on acquiring (or developing, but I don't see it for next year) more interior guys. I think there's still a role for undersized jacks on the edge, but it's going to be more situational against teams with lighter personnel and/or passing situations.

Ironically voicing this opinion got Butler fired, but we don't have the dudes we need on the interior DL at the moment. Those 4 guys can absolutely play on the edge, so let's do that with them.

True. Although I do agree with Rhule frankly that even if that is true, a coach should never say that as an excuse for bad performance.
