Rob Aurich Hired as Defensive Coordinator

What are you saying? Why compare the DC hire to Cignetti? Cignetti wasn’t going to come here to coach defense.

Agree.

The lingering problem with Husker football may be the folks who assume Nebraska can lure elite coaches from more successful programs simply because we're Nebraska.

We're going to have to be scrappy and a bit lucky giving good coaches their promotion to Power 4 football.

This should go over well...

I think Rhule has a default mode of saying stuff like this, though.

Firing Butler after just one season and getting embarrassed in the run game multiple times during the course of that one season suggests that it actually is a pretty sizable overhaul, IMO. I think that's probably just coach speak there from Rhule.

I’m going to give the new guy a chance.

But I really don’t know what to think of our money to hire and NIL. I am in SoCal with a lot of USC fans who laugh at the thought of Nebraska spending top dollar. We do talk a big game so let’s do it. I’m tired of the Oklahoma’s, Indiana’s, Ole Miss, and like all SEC teams getting dudes. Now Texas Tech comes to the table. Now Sparty has a war chest.

I’m good with the hire but now let’s get some guys. Other than the head coach, barely anyone knows the name of the defensive coordinator at Texas Tech.

We have got to win the portal. No I don’t want to finish like 18th in the portal and say we won! Give me a top 5 portal finish or shut up about our great NIL.

But you can go across that “front 4” and we got smaller (and less skilled) at every position. The first play of the season Jeudy was blown off the ball and was 15 yards downfield. He was never going to replace Nash. Van Poppel wasn’t going to be Robinson. Sherman got replaced by a guy who was playing S/LB hybrid at Oklahoma, he’s not setting any edges in the B1G. It’s like once they realized way too late that front wasn’t going to hold up against power running teams they just gave up on trying to come up with any fixes.

Nwaneri, Lenhardt, Keona Davis, Kade - they seem to all be athletic enough to be good rush defensive ends but they have them playing 3-4 tackle and they aren't built to try to 2 gap. Get them on a tackle and let them attack.

What makes you say this?
Do you know “most” fans?
Where did you get this feeling from, Facebook, X….other social media?

I would guess most fans have just found about this hire and most haven’t expressed any excitement or lack there of yet.
I was basing my comment on the fact that most reactions on huskerboard were meh. Yes they like what RA has done at San Diego St but a lot on here wanted a defense coordinator with power four experience. Imo a lot on here do have hope that our defense will be better next year but how much better is the question?

But it isn't just that we got smaller & also lost Jamari Butler & Princewill (in addition to the obvious vacancies of Ty & Nash).

I feel like John Butler was prioritizing the concept of coverage sacks. We just didn't blitz much at all.

White was really good at creating confusion and chaos for opposing offenses. I feel like Butler wasn't.

There's scheme and then there's also philosophy. White & Butler used the same exact schemes, but in my opinion Butler's philosophy was a terrible fit for the opponents we faced.
