Rob Aurich Hired as Defensive Coordinator

We didn't have 3 let alone 4...

His point is that the guys we do have are more 4-3 sized than 3-4. For a 3-4 you want the absolute behemoth dudes, while 4-3 guys are typically lighter and more athletic.

It's a bit of a tradeoff: for a 3-4 you don't have to recruit as many linemen, but the ones you do recruit have to have huge size, which is harder to find at the college level when guys are still growing.

Just so everyone knows he runs a 4-2-5 base defense. I feel like most fans are not excited about the hire.
What makes you say this?
Do you know “most” fans?
Where did you get this feeling from, Facebook, X….other social media?

I would guess most fans have just found about this hire and most haven’t expressed any excitement or lack there of yet.

The thing is, assuming he coached in the MTN West, they did not win anything. Cignetti, if were comparing, won every where. Too soon to measure what kind of hire this is right now. Everyone needs a chance to prove themselves. Hope this is the guy they wanted, not settled for..........we seem to settle for 2nd best more than getting who we want. If he stresses run defense, its at least a step in the right direction. Next would be recruiting/salesman to bring in better talent.
he's not the head coach. You can have the best defense in the country and still lose games because of the offense and special teams. If Nebraska hired Cignetti instead of Rhule this board would have lost its minds until after the first season. People at IU weren't even excited.

San Diego St finished #47 in SP+. The #46 team? Nebraska.

SP+ Offense
SDSU #100
Nebraska #60

SP+ Defense
SDSU #16
Nebraska #40

SP+ Special Teams
SDSU #1
Nebraska #73

Well I'm just going to say this - I was not excited at all about Butler being named as Tony White's replacement. I came into the season really worried, and then all of those fears were confirmed.

I'd like to try something different in terms of scheme & philosophy, as well as bringing somebody in that's been successful as an actual defensive coordinator in the last few seasons.

Aurich checks all of those boxes. So, I'm not sure if I can use the word "excited" but I'm relieved we're bringing somebody in that looks like he might actually know and care about stopping the run.
