What did we learn - Maryland

I don't know if our protections are too complicated or our OL just doesn't know what's going on. But we didn't get beat physically much today But got beat mentally several times.
Noticed this as well. We were winning the line on O when we engaged but there were alot of misses that looked scheme related

the hit came about 7 seconds after the pick...was the play blown dead by then? and Dyan was hit and knocked to the ground....then he got up and was hopping on 1 foot to the sideline when another guy came in and hit him. hitting a guy who is trying to hop off the field on 1 foot even if the play might still be alive is a dirty hit IMO.
Not saying it wasn't a dirty hit, just saying it wasn't a "late" hit (as if he had thrown an incomplete pass and dude just nailed him...he threw a pick, guy was trying to return it, defensive player was thinking he could now block DR, but DR was so far removed from the play that the hit was unnecessary)

Didn't Illinois lose game #2 on the season today too? They were #17 going into today- lost to a good OSU team, but you can't keep them in the rankings when they have lost 2 games with a bunch of deserving 1 loss teams.

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both losses against what will now be top 5 teams. I think they stay in. Notre Dame was ranked at 0-2

Mozee is getting better with every carry. He's tough to bring down. Glad Dana sees EJ's talent and uses him so much. Dane Key blocked his a$$ off. Saw him give a couple guys the business

5. The O-line appeared to give better pass protection today than in recent weeks. Not sure if that is due to something they changed or that Maryland is not at good at getting to the QB.

Did you miss the part where Maryland was #1 in the country in sacks coming into this game?

That’s more crazy than we are. Their freshman QB is good!! Their defense is hit/miss but at least making plays.
They lost because we are better.

Part of it is just that they're in year seven with Locksley, and he's 17-42 in conference play. They've definitely got that "Oh boy, here we go again, we've seen this before" mindset like we've had with close losses. Yeah, their freshman QB looked way better than Meatchicken's megabucks #1 overall recruit QB did. But they've had big-time recruits during his tenure before, and it hasn't translated into wins.

Now there's a stat that I don't mind the slightest bit that we're 'bad' at. People talk so much about explosive plays, but personally, give me the team that can consistently execute a sustained drive over the team that lives and dies by the big play.

We're 16th in the country this year (105th last year). So not at all bad.

It's nice to be able to sustain drives. But it's not really a winning formula in today's football. At least not for teams with higher aspirations than Iowa.

I learned that even though we have yet to play a game where all three phases of the ball clicked, this team has shown the fight to the end mentality that gets an ugly hard fought win. They are learning how to win and that is all we can ask for. Learning to win is a process for both players and coaches. The fans might get some ulcers as none of the remaining teams on our schedule are sure wins but as long as this team battles till the end, we will be ok.

I can’t wait to see who buys Maryland’s QB in a year or 2. I’m making Texas Tech the current favorite.

This is the rub, isn't it. They can recruit some players in MD, mainly due to being a relatively talent rich geography. They won't be able to keep them there. See Chop Robinson- > both of those 2 EDGEs will be @ Oklahoma, FSU, Alabama, Oregon, or USC soon.

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
