Who is the next coach?

I would like to see 1 more year out if Fred. Get his transfers and see what kind of team he can put together. I suppose you could blame some of this year on not hitting on their transfers. But I don’t know what their film looked like at their previous teams.

1. Worcester was bad. Not coordinated, can’t shoot. Not a Big ten caliber player

2. meah. Decent big man off the bench for limited minutes.
3. Morgan did better as season went on but I thought disappointing. I thought he was a mast replacement

4. essegian was to inconsistent shooting

other things to consider. This is prob a 22-24 win team if mast wasn’t out all year. Dude is a stud.
Brice Williams is a stud and will be missed. But mast will be back. I would have loved to see them play together this year.

gary is a frustrating player. Can play great and score 20 one game. Then the next 5 games straight he misses 10 layups per game. Dude can’t finish. Hoiberg energy is great off the bench.

I think Williams & Gary tried to carry the team toward the end.  They both had questionable shot selection at times.  This yr. was almost a complete miss in the portal.  I think Conner & Berke will improve as they are still young players. Fred needs to get better players this year & hopefully there will some additional NIL funding available.

They had to pay big to keep kalk, it would have been embarrassing to let him leave and then later on retire his jersey.  I don't think they will pony up that much for anyone again.  Ashworth blows, that was not money well spent.

Greggggg is like 61 or something, so he might chase that IU bag for a 6 year 30 million dollar deal now that about 6 coaches have told them no.

Beard

Stevens (They always think they will get Brad Stevens)

Clemson coach

Dusty May

Nate Oates
man, i bet neb gets AT LEAST to the big ten tournament with ash, if not an outright top ten seed. but yeah. money wasted.

Major portal mis-evaluations.

Needed a center and a point guard.

Landed Herman Munster and George Costanza.
Someone saw his jr year stats at Washington and got super excited…overlooked freshman, sophomore and senior years…one of those things is not like the others 😆

his 5th year was just like his Fresno state years and his last year as a husky.  I don’t mean to bash the guy but he legitimately played about 15-20 really good minutes this season.  He sure is tall.  Too bad for him that isn’t a prerequisite for being a good D1 basketball player.

he is really tall though. I wish him well in his future endeavors.

fwiw if that’s the type of 7 footer we can get here, let’s just stay with the 6-8 to 6-10 guy that has some level of coordination and can make a basket without physically having to touch the rim

Not defending Hoiberg's evaluation, but he made a big jump as a junior (as many players do) and then got injured and spent his senior year recovering.   I'm sure the hope was that he'd return to his pre injury level.

Can’t say I agree with the made a big jump argument…he just played a lot more minutes.  His stats per 40 minutes were basically identical except for ft %.  His ft % was 20 points better in his junior year than every other year he ever tried to shoot a basketball.  Other than that his senior year stats were better or nearly identical per 40 minutes…except for ppg.  That was about a half a point higher his jr year.

Maybe now we will live by the golden rule: “hope in one hand, crap in the other…see which one fills up first

When I first saw this question this morning.  I rolled my eyes and thought..."Nebraska can afford both".

But, then I saw this...and now think it's an appropriate question.

Why would 1890 pump more and more money into mens basketball when there are other sports much more successful and making money?

I don't believe 1890 can pump as much money into football and volleyball that we want....and also spend this much on mens basketball.

So.....if my assumptions are true, and we can't copete like this with money, then why would be get rid of Fred after the last two year's results?

This is hard to believe, since the NCAA is pushing a $23 million annual NIL cap.
