Dylan Raiola

I said it a few weeks ago that if I am DR, I leave. I am not surprised or mad. Disappointed YES. I think the ramifications could be a little bit more than most think. If he truly believes that he is an NFL QB, which is what his posts say, when announcing the portal, then he SHOULD leave. I know that I will miss a few, but the number of NFL starting QBs that Dana and Rhule have produced is very small. Geno being the most prominent. Weeden, Harrell, and Keenum have seen a few starts, with Keenum being the next most prominent. I don't blame him for at least seeking other programs or coaches who are known to put QBs into the league, because Nebraska has not ! Hopefully we either develop TJ and wait on TT or get a winner in the portal.

I think this could have been accomplished with any serviceable QB and done a hell of a lot cheaper... JHO
Could have been accomplished, but it hadn't happened since Tommy Armstrong was leading the program. Too often we strike out on transfers and, I would argue, most schools strike out with transfers with the exception of a handful of schools. Too many fans are assuming TJ is the answer or the portal will gift us with guys who will walk in and lead us to wins.

We're also banking on no additional staff shakeups and that the rest of the team remains relatively intact though we will almost certainly see other notable guys entering the portal after the bowl game.

I always thought DR would be 3 years and done. His goal is the NFL. He is still on pace.

I also think Miami & LSU need to replace QBs. Texas Tech, Florida and Arizona State as well, plus Georgia too if Stockton goes pro. Those are good teams.

DR really struggled against man-coverage. The good teams of the SEC play a lot of that, and you have to get rid of it and win those one-on-one match-ups. I wish him well. I don't think SEC would be a good fit for him.

Got to work on those down-field big bombs so the player can catch and run in stride. Also the obvious - he will get sacked a lot - unless it's soft zone coverage where he picks it apart easily.

Go to the ACC or Big 12 and pad your stats, make the playoffs, and go pro. Have Roger Goodell call your name on Day 1 and give him a hug. Fulfill your dream.

Trolling at it's finest. Dylan kept us in games and won games that we otherwise would have lost without him. Let's not drag his name through the mud, just to fit your narrative.

Dylan led us to winning seasons with lesser talent around him. Unfortunately, we will almost certainly see an exodus of skill players ahead, specifically Barney.
I am not saying he was awful. I think he can be really good with a great line and great receivers and another great RB, but so can many others. However, we haven't had all 3 of those in a long, long time and I don't see it happening next year. We'll prob miss some things about him but he didn't do anything that blew me away. Completion % really good but mostly super short passes (he's ranked 123rd in air yards per attempt). He was impressive compared to the last few qbs we had but...that bar isn't very high. He didn't lose games for us but he didn't take over games and win them for us, either. EJ kept us in many of those games. I don't wish him failure anywhere but I am not of the opinion we are losing a generational talent. Time will tell me if I'm wrong. If we see an exodus of skill players and we can't replace them, that's on coaching. If we are beholden to one player then we don't have a program and we aren't building one, either.

I was very hopeful that DR would work out here, and it's too bad that he's moving on, but I get it. I liked the enthusiasm he brought to the program, and dude played his tail off for us. I didn't care for all of the Mahomes crap, and I honestly thought that he'd be better. But it's hard to tell behind that O line. I wish him well, wherever he goes, and I'm ready to move on.

I have to assume that Rhule knew all about this weeks ago, when he met with the Raiola family to discuss Dayton's commitment. He knew he was moving on from Donovan, and that the whole family would be done with NU. Curious to see who they can get in the portal, but there are a lot of "better" programs looking for QBs now, so might be difficult.

Agreed with most of this post, but this was much different than the previous post to which I responded.

As @admo mentioned above, I think the Big 12 might be a perfect fit with teams that like to spread the field and generally play in environments more suitable to shootouts. It would really suck to see him transfer within the conference (Oregon).

I will generally be cheering for him whereever he ends up unless he craps on the program after he leaves. Keep it classy and just admit that maybe somewhere else was in his best interests.

My DR theory will be put to the test:

If he goes to a program that requires vertical passing or upper tier B1G or SEC

1) he will continue to not threaten downfield and his NFL dream will be gone- that glass half empty theory will be proved

2) he develops a down field vertical game where he drives the ball with accuracy and anticipation- if this occurs it will make me wish it had happened @ NU, but he will likely end up in the NFL.

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
