  1. Let me paraphrase the PSU board on those guys:

"They don't have what it takes"

"They were not going to play anyway"

Trying to make equivalents to the Husker squad. If we lost Burkhead, Santos, Carnes, Jake Long & Vincent Valentine? Ouch...

  2. Okay, so if I'm following this correctly... He has Michigan in his top (whatever) but he has to ask another player how many spots are left and the other player will get him the coaches' number.

It doesn't sound to me like Michigan is recruiting him too hard. Wouldn't that be the type of info a highly sought recruit would already know from the coaches? Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but he doesn't even have the coaches phone number to call himself?

Then he says he just doesn't want to waste an official. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of hot interest from either side. Of course what do I know, it's been a long time since I was a 17-18 year old. ;)

You have the parties reversed. Priest tells another kid the coaches' numbers.

    Nope, he had it right...

  3. If a school has open scholarships from the previous year, the early enrollees will take up those scholarships but still count against the current years numbers. So if it still doesn't matter if USC has open schollies from the previous year, the early enrollees still count against this years class. They can take no more then 15 kids and that is including the early enrollees that use last years scholarships.

But this doesn't work out with them signing 16 last year and already having 18 verbals this year.

Which says that they are not following the punishment handed down to them by the NCAA on the 15 a year.

Sorry I edited, I did some more research. They signed 17 last year with 5 of them being early enrollees that counted towards the previous year limit. 12 of them counted for 2012, so they still have 3 available.

  4. Read here: http://espn.go.com/c...ecruiting-class

USC coach Lane Kiffin announced the signing of 12 players during his national signing day press conference Wednesday evening.

The haul includes 11 high school players and one junior college transfer, which allows three available scholarships to be used for early enrollees from the class of 2013.

So....USC can bring in 18 recruits this class - 3 would have to be early enrollees that will count towards 2012. They currently have 18 verbals so they are full at this point.

  5. I know how a greyshirt works and that's not what we're talking about. Also, why on earth would the 25 scholarship limit not apply to the 2005 class? There were clearly more than 25 scholarship players in that class that either enrolled early (January of 2005) or arrived in the fall of 2005. Please explain how that's possible if not for back counting of early enrollees.

Also, have you reviewed the quotes from coach richt in the link I posted?

Seems like this is geared towards new rules in the SEC, does each conference treat early enrollees differently?

Edit: Aside from getting players ready to play sooner, early enrollment also provides another benefit for college football programs.

If a recruit enrolls in January and attends class, he can be counted toward the previous year's recruiting class. Programs can hand out no more than 25 scholarships per year and have a total of 85 scholarship players on the roster.

A program that is well below 85 scholarship players on the roster can rebuild with the help of early enrollees. Lane Kiffin used this approach to restock USC's depleted roster during his first two seasons with the Trojans.

  6. The diamond with Kenny Bell, Jamal Turner, Rex Burkhead, Ameer Abdullah and Enunwa (with Taylor Martinez) can give us 7-10 plays a game. Run Triple option out of it. You can throw short passes out of it in the flat or even throw to the tight end to really mess with the defense. I have seen Oklahoma use it a ton with success. We have more weapons than I have seen in a while. Let's use them. No sense in having a rocket propelled grenade launcher with RPG's sitting in the house unused while you are using a bee-bee gun to try and kill a razorback.

Let's use the RPG until it is too hot to handle.

Which player listed above is playing tight end?

  7. its northwestern. Games don't sell out. buy them on the sidewalk outside the gate for $10

Maybe not when Michigan is visiting, but its already sold out on the Northwestern website and tickets on stubhub are going for $100+.

  8. I can't say he didn't consistently catch balls that were thrown his way (do they even track drops? I can't seem to find any websites tracking this). I was referring more to providing consistent production from the position. You win.

  9. Marlowe was the most consistent at what? He had 12 catches all year, 6 games with no catches at all. Bell and Enunwa were much better than Marlowe last year.

It's not necessarily how many catches Marlowe had, but the situations surrounding those catches. I broke this down a while ago and I don't have the spreadsheet in front of me right now, but something like half of those catches were for first downs, most of those half were on third-and-long, and I think 25% of them were on go-ahead scoring drives.

Marlowe hasn't always been flashy, but he's clutch, and he's one of the fastest guys on the team if (and this is a refrain we hear all over the team) IF we can get him into space. That's a scheme problem, not a Marlowe problem.

Clutch does not equal consistent...Enunwa and Bell both had more first down catches than Marlowe had total catches. I'm not saying Marlowe isn't a quality player, but there is better talented receivers on our team. I think sometimes we over-hype the undersized, speedy white guy.

UNDERSIZED SPEEDY WHITE GUY! Wait is that racist???

Only when white people officially become the minority.

  10. I would put the depth chart like this:

    1: Bell,Westercamp,

    2: Enunwa,Allen,

    3:Turner,Marlowe,

My one issue with our WR corp, is we dont have a ton of size... Allen and Enunwa will help with 6'2 and 6'3 size... But Bell, Westercamp, turner and Marlowe are all more speed/slant guys which doesnt give as big of a target for a more inaccurate QB.

I am not a Marlowe guy... I think Turner should see a ton of reps there this year... SIMPLE AS THAT!

You do realize Westerkamp is 6'2 - 195?

I have heard from a couple different people that Westerkamp is much closer to the 6'0" than 6'2"

So depending on the source he is between 6'0 and 6'2...I just don't see him as a speedy slant guy, he's a pretty thick bodied, physical receiver.

  12. Was Westercamp here for spring ball? What do we have to judge if he is ready or not? Marlowe was the most consistent out of the bunch last year, I'd rather have a caught ball than big play potential and dropped balls. If Westercamp can master the offense over fall camp we'll see him early, Enunwa is to good of a run blocker to have off the field, Marlowe makes plays, Turner has so much potential I hope he has made big strides and we are able to use him a lot more, and Allen has turned a lot of heads since he has been here we will see him on the field this year. And we all know what Bell is. I believe we have one of the best groups of recievers in the big ten. Throw in our hopefully new TE Sandland next year and watch out!
