  1. Baytown, if you don't like it come up with something else. That was the point of the thread, if you aren't imaginative enough to come up with something "cool" enough for other forum readers don't take it out on others who are trying to have a good time with the unknown that is Nebraska's offense. I mean I don't personally think that Junk Yard Dog is gonna seriously become the moniker for our offense but I thought combining Beck's use of the term "Mutt" in combination with various sources in and around the team saying we were gonna be scrappy and smash mouth was a pretty natural transition to what most people think of when they hear Junk Yard dog. So whats your name for the offense? or are you afraid to come up with something that gasp other people might judge you about?
  2. No doubt about the D, the return supposedly 7 starters, but in reality its probly closer to 8-9, as the blackshirts have 3 starters on Dline, 3 players who have started at LB, and 4-6 players who have started in the DB's. Not to mention all 3 levels have at least one all American caliber player. I am trying to keep my optimism down for the offense at least until the Wisconsin game. Mostly because that is gonna be the first real test for Tmart and the Offense to play against a decent defense. I do agree that I think the offense will find its rhythm by the 3-4 game and the team wont put so much pressure on the Blackshirts to carry the team. The real concern I think is really field position as we lose both our kick off specialist and our all everything accurate but strong punter and our get use past the 50 and he will put it through Skinny Assassin. He saved a lot of drives by getting field goals rather than punting.
  3. I don't see the deception angle from this offense. I mean sure we are gonna try and keep them from knowing what play we are gonna run, but I don't think we are gonna have 8 motions and run on 3rd and 15. I think we are gonna be much more like the defense with its read and react style which is similar to Peyton Manning style offense. We line up in say a pistol on say 2nd and 7 and the QB has say 2 runs and a a pass play to "choose" from. Then either he would run the original play or alter it based on a WR hand signal or hot route or by how the DE lines up. And when everyone is worried about the multiple phrase or whatever I think is just Becks way of leaving out information. I think by Multiple what he really means is options...as in option football, give the ball carrier the option to run pass or pitch/hand off based on how the play develops. Boot legs, speed options, FB traps, and Rex pitch and passes I would think are gonna be staples of the offense because they force teams to stay in assignments and few teams are disciplined enough to stop a multiple option team.
  4. First I disagree with the vote, and I think DRob should be in the 3-5 range with TMart. Just too much unknown about how he will be used next year, but I think we are all assuming that Michigan will not gear the offense to suit D Rob. But I think any coach worth his salt knows not to put a square peg in a round hole. I think most people agree that's why BC failed at Nebraska, by trying to make a Ferrari out of a F350 truck. If Hoke didn't see how badly Rich Rod screwed up doing that then Michigan made a poor decision to hire him. Anyways DRob throws the ball really well and had some pretty good passing stats last year. I see them running an offense that is a much more of a controlled transition that allows him to break out and run while still preserving pocket passing and a timing based offense. No doubt he is a good QB but can he control the beast and follow the play until its time to run is what will show if he is really the best QB in the League.
  5. I keep hearing Beck refer to the offense as a mutt offense. And we keep hearing coachs and players talk about hard nose smack you in the mouth plays. I think the new offense should be called Junk Yard Dog. It should tough and it kinda combines what everyone keeps saying without trying to be all technical like the pistol or the spread or the WCO. JYD is the new kid on the block with nothing to lose and everything to prove. "Sick balls Chopper".
