Billy Kemp declared for the NFL draft.  Lost one of our playmaking wr's.

Dude was the most overrated “playmaker” I can think of the last 20 years. Fair caught everything and wasn’t that fast. The media guys seemed to always rave about him.
     QB play didn’t help.

Who does??? Fleming??? I mean where are you going to find a talented wr like him other then the portal and most of the so called good ones started to commit to other places.  He wasn't just ranked the fourth best wr coming out of high school for no reason.  Nebraska needs to add more talent to that room too many times last year I didn't think the wr's got open much.  Since he went the juco rt maybe that offense didn't feature him and he wasn't able to showcase his skills.

The sooner you realize high school ratings don’t matter 3 years later, you’d recognize he has a ton of baggage.

He is rated as a low-mid 4 star at this time who hasn’t done much in 2 years. Had around 400 yards receiving at Garden City. Give me a proven guy at a non P5 school who will come in and bust his a$$ over someone who has gone through legal troubles.

This started as discussing keeping reliable backups and helping them improve, then a rabid Husker mob took over and started comparing backups to Joe Montana… like they’ve done for 20 years.

Haarberg and reliable don’t really go together. I hope he transitions to TE or another position, but he is far from a reliable D1 QB

Is there still a chance here?

He'd be a guaranteed starter from day 1 at Nebraska.

His uncle is on the staff and dad is a legend here. He would get crazy NIL money because of name recognition alone.

There's plenty of young receivers on this team he could build with.

If you add dylan to the current recruiting class it's top 20 easily in the rankings.

I don't understand how we whiffed so hard here. Georgia has had almost no success building nfl QBs outside of matt stafford. Georgia will not guarantee him any playing time. They have another top 5 QB in the same freaking class. He's not going to get NIL money riding the pine.

Damn you got 6 laughs for this. Crazy times in the college ranks

2nd round you go also, and can actually be better for the player than being a late first round since a team option 5th year contract is not a thing for 2nd round picks

Im sure there is insurance they can purchase but you have to go to the draft. A RB’s lifespan is just too short to risk blowing an ACL. He would 100% hinder his draft stock.

A good QB this year and we’d be going to the Cheez-it Bowl instead of Iowa

With all the transfer’s, bowl games are atrocious. It’s either competing for a spot in the 12-team playoff or bust at this point. Why would FSU want to play against Georgia or vice versa. 50% of QBs hit the portal.

And as Rhule said, (in my words) it really isn't ethical to go after a player on another team and offer him $xx to come to your team after team #1 has developed the player for 2 years.  Rhule says for this reason and others he'd prefer to recruit out of HS and develop those players long term - which creates more team unity and cohesiveness.

I hate what this is becoming.  Hard to build teams when players are coming and going.

At this point, we can not un-ring the bell as we aren't going back to pre-portal or pre-NIL days.

    So there are 2 options I think are before us;

Go Big  - get  it over with and make the top 32 teams a farm league for the NFL.  Make it what it is slowly becoming and remove all pretense that this is amateur college football.  Create and equable salary structure for all players, have contracts & stop the madness of players ending up at 3 or 4 different schools during their playing years.

    OR

P5 teams need to cut lose form the NCAA and create clearly defined rules on how to navigate portal, NIL issues while protecting the integrity of the concept of student athletes.

I agree. Nebraska currently doesn’t have the deep pockets other universities have and our recent success doesn’t help. There will be 6-8 realistic programs that can continually compete for a national title while the remaining 60 P5 programs rotate for a playoff birth or individual seasonal success. It’s basically the Major League Baseball model where the major cities (LA, New York, Boston, Houston, SF) have continued success and the other 20 something teams have 1 or 2 year runs as they can’t afford to sign key free agents.
