  1. After the Minnesota debacle, I was all for running Bo out of town. However, the last 3 weeks have shown me that I just emotionally overreacted. Bo was not responsible for those 5 turnovers yesterday. We could have beaten Bama if they would have given us 5 turnovers. The reality is that those 5 turnovers were simply the result of an overzealous, rookie QB. However, today's miscues will be tomorrow's gain. When I stop and look at our program, we are not that far away. We keep winning 9 games a year. Yes, I want more, but we are on the right track. I am most pleased that Bo has made major changes in the last three weeks. Moreover, this year has been better. With Garrison as OL coach, we have gotten substantially better. We have tons of talent in the wings. We are almost there. Things could be worse: We could be Tennessee, Colorado, Washington, Syracuse, or any other team that used to have a pulse but don't have anything close to it. Bo has saved us from that. Truth be told, I'd give Bo three more years to make us a top ten team. I think he can do it. There are so many reasons to be optimistic for the future. Le'ts win the next two games, and then hopefully we'll play Texas in whatever that Arizona bowl is called. If we ended the year with beating Texas, this will have been a good year.
  2. Today was a stepping stone for next year. We weren't going to beat Ohio State, anyway, so we avoid that beat down. Having said that, what bowls do we realistically have a shot at if we win our last two games? Who might be possible opponents?
  3. Now that MSU is out of the way, time to swat Penn State and Iowa aside, so that we can spank Urban's team all the way to Orlando. Big Red is on the rise. You heard it here first!
  4. I'm more worried about Iowa than MSU. Time to spank the Spartans. I'll be back here on Sunday so you all can congratulate me! (That's a joke, for the uptight). I'm telling you, we control this game from start to finish. MSU goes back to Michigan with 2 losses.
  5. Folks, what are you so afraid of? Look at some of MSU's "huge" wins this year: MSU 26 Western Michigan 13 MSU 21 South Florida 6 (The same 3-6 South Florida that lost to McNeese State, 53-21) MSU 13 Notre Dame 17 (Woops, this was a loss. The same Notre Dame that beat Michigan at Michigan by 11) MSU 26 Iowa 14 (Nuff said) MSU 42 Indiana 28 MSU 14 Purdue 0 (Yes, the same Purdue that we beat by 37. The same Purdue that lost to Northern Illinios 55-24) I'm certainly not suggesting that we get lazy and presume we'll win. All I'm saying is that there is NOTHING on MSU's schedule that warrants the accolades they have been receiving. They could easily have a losing record. They are not a power at all. Sorry, we'l win, banged up offense or not.
  6. Missouri 2008 Iowa State 2009 Texas Tech 2009 Texas 2010 Northwestern 2011 UCLA 2012 Minnesota 2013 MSU 2011 MSU 2012 This one's in the bag.
  7. We won't score much, but nor will they. We'll win something like 13-10, or 14-10. I would love 35-0, but we'd need about 4 turnovers to get that.
  8. Remember that Jason Peter quote from long ago, "They're still Kansas State and we're still Nebraska." The same holds true for MSU. I am not one ounce worried about MSU. Do we have to play hard? Yes. Do they scare me? Not remotely. It's not like Alabama or Florida State is coming to town. This is MSU, our traditional whipping boy. We'll have our way again. It won't be a high scoring game, but we'll win. We are playing well and we are at home. Also, did I mention that it's MSU. Please. If we play hard, we win. Period.
  9. TA all the way. No freaking way should TM ever start again. Never.
  10. TMart is our best QB at 70%. TM has lost 2 games, RKIII and TA have lost none. That says it all. TM is done. Don't want to see him again. Not a bad guy, just don't want him playing again.
  11. I would like to see RKIII start the rest of the season and TA get in each game. I think TA is the future, but RKIII is now. As for TA, I don't want to see him again. Don't hate the guy, just don't want him back.
  12. RKIII should run the show the rest of the year. It is the first time in YEARS that I saw a Nebraska quarterback who was in control and leading the team. I'm not a TM basher, but, the biggest knock that I've always had on him is that he's never been a leader. He's always looking to the sideline for hope. With RKIII, I got the sense of a man who realized that the sideline was signalling in the play, but he was the man in charge on the field. For crying out loud, the guy comes in on the last drive of the game dead-cold and leads us to victory. RKIII needs to be this season's Jerry Gidowski (forgive the spelling).
  13. Two candidates that would be GREAT head coaches (i.e., if they wanted to get back into coaching): 1. Tony Dungy 2. Herm Edwards.
  14. I'm not worried about the concept that coaches will be scared to coach here if 9 wins gets you fired. I want a guy who will look at that setup and says, "Bring it on." Pete Carroll was USC's 4th choice. Before his hiring, everyone thought he totally sucked as a coach. After he was hired, everybody in Southern California derided USC's AD for making such a stupid hire. Maybe we need to forget about prima donnas, young sure-fire coaches, and anything else that everybody seems to love, and simply hire an old coach who knows his way around a clip board and a field.
  15. These discussions can seem contentious, but that is not my intention. What is it "on the field" that Bo has done? He has beaten the soft teams on our schedule (most of them) and consistently lost to the good or great teams. That's what teams ranked between 30-40 do. Our team regularly loses heart in big games. Good coaches instill their fire into their players. Bad coaches don't. Bo is an unbelievably fiery guy. So, how come we never see any of his players displaying the same fire? It's because Bo has been unable to transfer his energy to his players. That's a direct sign that his players don't connect with him.
  16. Let's not kid ourselves: If the money is right, just about every coach in the country will take this job. I'm not saying every coach would take this job, but most would. Before Saban took over at Alabama, they had sucked for about 12 years. Does anybody remember the David Shula era? I have a good buddy from Boise. He has told me that it has been rumored in Boise this year that Peterson is going to NU. I'm not saying it will happen, but it's nice to hear the rumors in Boise. Also, the fact that Boise is having a crappy year might be the wake up call for Peterson to make the leap. The point is that Bo has driven this car as far as it will go. It won't go any further.
  17. It's hard to write this because we all wanted Bo to succeed. However, I am giving five reasons why Bo needs to go: 1. Rats, rats, rats. Bo never gave a rat’s backside about Nebraska fans. For reasons unconscionably unexplainable, Bo put himself at odds with the fan base from day-one on the job. For a guy who portends to be nails-between-teeth tough, he was surprisingly fragile when it came to criticism. 2. Mike Tyson. He is like Mike Tyson. He can only win if everything is going his way. The moment an obstacle is presented, he can’t take it. The odd thing about yesterday was that it was one of the extremely rare times that we lost by only a small amount. Bo’s teams usually collapse completely and lose by 3 touchdowns. 3. Lady Ga Ga. Why in the world has Bo gone absolutely Ga Ga over Martinez for the last 3 years? Football is not advanced physics. When 7-year-old kids can clearly see that Martinez needs to sit, but you don’t, it’s time to go. 4. De-Chain-link-fense. When Bo first arrived we were all fatigued from Bill Callahan’s “You-Need-A-Master’s-Degree-From-Harvard” to execute my game plans mentality. Bo stepped up to the mike and essentially said, “Football’s not complicated. See your man, hit him, knock him down.” Then Bo went right out and adopted BC’s MIT play book. If the players would just properly execute the plays, we’d be fine. If a play book is so sophisticated that it takes 5 years to learn, maybe, just maybe, it’s too complicated. 5. Carley Simon. “It’s too late, baby, oh it’s too late.” Al Davis used to say, “Just win, baby.” I say to Bo, “Just pack, baby.” Under you, I have lost almost every ounce of my desire for Nebraska football. I have missed several games this year, simply because I don’t care anymore. Oh, I want to care, but it’s hard to care when your coach couldn’t care less about the fan base. For those who love Bo, what is it about his coaching that you love? He has no game plan. We have pathetically weak defenses. We have incredibly unskilled coaches in important positions. When a QB is blowing chunks. he never thinks twice about putting a backup in. Halftime adjustments have never existed for us. And the only time we had a good season under him, the following season he benched the senior quarterback in place of an unproven defensive back. From a coaching standpoint, there is nothing that this man brings to the table. Nothing. Remember during the BC era when we’d long for Bo? We all thought it was a pipe dream. When he showed up one day, it was almost too hard to believe. We had actually hired Bo Pelini to be our coach. It was like marrying the girl that you had thought was out of your league. It really does pain me to see that Bo never became half the coach that we had oh-so wanted him to be. Yes, he runs a clean program and we have good graduation rates. He deserves credit for that. But we all know that really doesn’t mean much if your team is terrible. The main reason for which Bo was hired has never come to fruition. Not even close. It's time for Bo to go. We’d all be better for it. Breaking up always hurts for a short time, but, in the long run, it always ends up for the better. We need to put sentimentalism aside and just make the hard decision. Let him go.
  18. Are you saying that he's a fifth year senior? Couldn't we go back and find a medical redshirt somewhere?
  19. My thoughts and predictions (these are based on 100% speculation): 1. We'll beat South Carolina. Sorry, but SC has never struck fear in the heart of anybody. 2. Barney gone after signing day 3. I don't want JP to become DC. He'll just use it as a springboard to be a head coach in a few years. Get an older guy who will stick around. 4. No-way, no-how will Gill be brought on staff. Beck would hate it. 5. What happens if all of these great recruits we're shooting for don't pan out? Do we have backups? Hard to have backups when we have so few offers to begin with. Would hate to see us with a class of 10 recruits. 6. Mike Stoops won't be DC - - he hasn't heard from Bo yet. Seeing that they are great friends, it speaks volumes to the fact that he hasn't been called. 7. Glad to see the senior lineman go, not due to lack of heart, but due to the fact that we need young blood. It was easy for Barney to plug in mediocre lineman who were safe, rather than taking a risk on aggressive young guys. This option is no longer available, and we'll benefit from it. 8. I really like Cory Raymond. He was the best new hire. 9. I like the idea of Garrison being the O-Line coach. 10. I really wish would could petition the NCAA and find another year for Choi. I'm sure there were years where he played 3 snaps. Hard to imagine the NCAA not giving him an extra year (Yes, the NCAA is jerky but they do grant extra years at times). it would be great to have this beast for 2 more years.
  20. Remember last year? The time table is unknowable. It will happen when Bo feels like making it happen.
  21. The only teams that I ever considered in the race were Okie STate, ArKansas (reluctantly), Bama, LSU.... Wisconsin (no offense), Stanford, and OU nevered looked the part in my opinion..... Wait...Arkansas looked more the part than OU? We must have watched two different seasons. Up until their first loss to TTU Oklahoma looked damn good. Arkansas on the other hand was always shaky OU was all smoke and mirrors. They lost to TT and Baylor. Pullleeasse.
  22. The weird thing about this season is that there was never a race for the national championship. It seemed like every team outside the SEC West was out of it before October was over. We were out in October. Other than Bama v. LSU, there really weren't any big games to shake up the NC hunt this year. A very odd, uninspiring season on the national level. No "big" late November games to shake up the calendar. It was almost like the NC was not being handed out this year. Next year will be our year (I hope!).
  23. Bring back Cosgrove. Give him a second chance.
  24. Aren't these boards designed to speculate? If we weren't allowed to speculate, there'd be nothing to talk about. Sure... speculation is fine --- state what you think should be done or not ... and speculate as to why it is best to go as you suggest. Speculate as to what might happen or not. But to state what will happen (or not) and assert that you know why it will happen (or not), ascribing to others motives that you cannot possibly know... that transcends speculation. I think you are speculating too much about what speculation means.
