Wasn't Riley the first to lose the opener in forever?
Good point... and just more proof of the Solich Curse...
(I was just referencing the current sports year, but abundent evidence exists in the last two decades)...

Football loses it's opener basketball loses it's opener baseball loses its opener
The Solich Curse is alive
Thanks Steve Pederson

Wow.... couldn't inbound the ball, sloppy turnovers, lazy passes, couldn't make a field goal in the 4th quarter and let a 14-point lead slip away. This might be one of Amy's worst losses....

I think more character. Supposedly he just rubbed the coaches and players the wrong way. I know it's just a first impression, and he's made another visit, but just something to keep in mind if NU is slow to offer.
Your " character" supposition is totally contrary to the bits of opinion I've heard. For instance, Benning on the radio raves about his humility and just going about his business.
I certainly don't have any inside scoop, but the gap on "character" opinion discrepancy is hard to figure.

Meaning, it's their best chance for a possible conference win. I'm not counting on them to pull out a victory.
This is the first of back to back games (at Ohio State tomorrow), then at Iowa, Maryland, at NW, Iowa, at Penn State, at Ohio State, at Wisconsin. So it won't get any easier the rest of the way. I think tonight is their best opportunity to avoid a win-less conference record. Although, 1 win or and going winless is pretty much the same
Although you are absolutely correct that statistically zero versus one win is pretty indifferent, the legs of a storyline about a team that went WINLESS in conference is one that would have significant staying power over the years.

Maybe on the verge of setting a combined weekend record for futility between the men's and women's programs.

Felt like Shatel mentioned the NBA a lot in his article yesterday. Fred also left home for the NBA not long ago. Wouldn't be surprised if he is sick of this and took a Front Office job or Asst Coach job in the league, and we are spared a buyout.
That would seem to be a preferred outcome; everybody gets out from under without the trappings of a messy divorce.

I agree. With this schedule 8 or 9 should be expected. Less than 8 and I’m okay with a complete reset.
It will be interesting if Vegas shares that Sunny optimism...

The team played better last night than I had seen them play in a while. But...it's still a loss.
One thing that last might made clear. We need a good big man. Anyone who thought Fred's offense doesn't need one is sorely mistaken.
Fred is responsible for the makeup of the roster. The idea that you can find success in the BIG without EITHER a Big OR a point guard is sorely misguided.

It may sound trite, but I honestly believe they don't EXPECT to win.
Hard to fathom that type of mentality among competitive athletes, but finding ways to lose again and again suggests that is their underlying mindset.

Terrible way to end the half. Energy was great though.
Probably not ideal that we are only up 3 despite the best officiating we’ve ever gotten in conference play that I can remember. No way that keeps up for a second half.
Kobe not only playing in place of Verge, but trying to emulate his hero ball style.

Ok, after being away for 2 weeks doing the covid dance, I have wanted to get a pulse on everyone's confidence level at this point and how
it has or has not changed since TA reconfigured Scott's contract and Scott let go of most of his O staff.
Major changes:
New coaches: Are you comfortable wt each new coach?
Portal: Potentially huge portal gains - across the board? Does the influx of new experienced talent improve your out look for 2022?
Some thoughts:
Generally, I'm pretty excited about the coaching changes. It all has to be proven on the field (that I know is the mantra of everyone so let me say it upfront).
I think the new OC will infuse new ideas and life into the offences and hopefully be a mentor to SF.
Joseph is the cream - he is already showing his potential.
Having a dedicated ST coach will be worth a win or 2 in itself.
I'm excited not only by the portal gains but also the JUCU transfers. Some great talent. We will be a totally different looking team.
My main concerns:
OL: all of these good feelings and gains can come to naught if our OL does not improve by leaps and bounds next year. This is also where there is more doubt in my mind regarding
the new OL coach- can he pull it off??
Defense: Even if the offense turns it around next year, we'll have a young D. Can Chin and gang take the infusion of new talent, plus existing young talent and make the D the
strength that it was in 2021?
Pretty much encapsulates a Cliff Notes version for me.

Leading despite playing 8 on 5 and down the 2 best players to boot… let’s go ladies!!! GBR
Really quite remarkable how the refs protect the"golden one" Clark from fouls even though she extends and pushes off almost every play.
It's been a long time since I've seen that kind of team foul disparity without someone being embarrassed.

I loved how they said after the MSU loss where rebounding and shooting sucked, Williams didn't key on the shooting in practice. She keyed on rebounding and working hard. She knows she has good shooters. If they improve on rebounding and hustle, the shooting will take care of itself.
They outrebounded them 42-34 and shot .517 including .400 from 3.
#goodcoaching
Sounds like a teachable moment for Fred.....
