Or, we make more of our shots and aren't in that situation at the end...

You mean like missing the front ends of one and ones...?... or that disastrous dumpster fire of six consecutive misses with close looks in the final minutes...

An argument could be made that Raiola is not a bad coach, but (especially without Nouili & Prochazka) he just didn’t have the horses. We just don’t know (for sure). A current Ohio St. commit (named Raiola) switching to Nebraska might also hang in the balance. As a coach, he MAY deserve at least another year’s evaluation, under a new HC & OC.

I've been making the same argument about Raiola. I honestly have no way of evaluating him because he had neither the numbers nor the talent to work with. They actually struggled with even having enough bodies to field a  complete o- line some games. So while it's easy to affix blame to the position coach, we actually have no idea what he might have done with even a modicum of athletic talent and sufficient competitive numbers. Maybe he just isn't very good, but how do we know that because of the circumstances?

I agree and that is my take as well.

Our fan base is so hungry for anything good that they latched on to the feel good story of Mickey.  The reality was, short of a miracle, he was never going to be the guy.

True, because outside of running the table, Trev was never going to bet HIS future/legacy on an inexperienced guy with zero P5 head coaching on his resume. And that's not a knock on Trev, that's just reality.

I would imagine that he'll probably address the team over this. I mean at the very least Trev probably will, but I imagine Rhule will as well. Remember Ron Brown's speech/prayer at the Penn State game after Paterno was fired? IDK if you watched Rhule's intro presser or not, but the dude talks like a preacher (his dad is a minister, and it clearly rubbed off on him).

I've been wondering why the marketing team didn't introduce him at the presser with the song "Son of a preacher Man" ??

Yep, I was a bit surprised but you can tell we want to keep MJ. I think MJ’s agent is working overtime but what other jobs are as good and will his recruits want to play at Tulsa? Ultimately I think it comes down to if MJ wants to be here or not. Rhule seems like a builder and great coach to assemble a staff. Seems way more likable than Brian Kelly.  I think we have likely put out a great offer for MJ. But I completely understand how MJ would want to explore options and he has earned that right. We will do right by him for sure and I would think he’d respect that. But there is a lot of momentum now with this team going forward. Not sure why he’d not want to continue going forward unless he has something too good to pass up?

Plus, working with Rhule seems like a great opportunity for being mentored into ALL the aspects that being a Head Coach entails. Not only burnishes his resume, But keeps his name publicly around for a possible succession....

Was thinking the same thing. If Cooper is going to be the recruiting coordinator, that would signal that MJ is gonzo.

Actually I don't think you want Mickey as recruiting coordinator, in the same manner that you wouldn't want your top salesman to be the sales manager. You want the manager to identify and cull the prospect lists and help establish priorities, and  then send your number one closer out to finish the job. We certainly don't want Mickey buried in administrative paperwork Just for the sake of a title. I'd rather we pay him whatever it takes just to be the top dog recruiter regardless of title, and let someone else do the administrative end.....which I think Vince is already pretty decent at.

Gosh it would be swell if we could spoil this bratty fanbase's season today on the heels of our coaching announcement.  We've been through enough Football God's/Solich Curse/Pelini Voodoo Doll, let us have one.  Please?

Don't forget the original perpetrator of all this sordid mess.................the insufferably arrogant and incompetent Steve Pederson..............

Here is my honest take.  I think anyone could improve things here, including Mickey.  I really want that splash hire, i really want that person that the rest of the country goes.  WOW they got him, that is amazing.  The national media did it with Riley,  We all pumped ourselves up with Frost.  But i want the rando Iowa, Ia State, Florida fan to say, wow you guys really got a good one.  The reason for that is because of that i think getting better recrutes will follow with that.  I am willing to take my licks on a 4 year rebuild with Campbell if necessary but i dont think it will net in the results we want.  And if thats the case then i would want to take a Gamble with mickey because we already know he can recruit, we just need him to turn over the play calling to people who know better.

The absolute best scenario IF it is Mickey, is to back up the Brinks truck for two bona fide proven coordinators and give them some autonomy.

  9. Learned that Purdy is Whipple's GUY no matter the results on the field and his stubbornness basically cost us the game. Also remember his line last week about Smothers not being able to throw the ball downfield, when today compared to Purdy, that's a bold-faced lie. Also disappointed that Mickey didn't take charge like a head coach should and dictate who is going to play instead of allowing a lame duck coach to play HIS man. Also learned several of our touted receiving corps had crucial drops at the most inopportune times. And finally reinforced that this team is so fragile that it cannot overcome being behind the chains at all. Really damning.

How long does Leipold take to win a big ten championship?  10 yrs?  Ever?   Big Ten west? 5 ?  10?   I don’t see anything about him that says he can recruit better than Pelini, Riley or Frost.  Are his X & Os better?   Idk.

Imo Whipple/Joseph is better than Leipold.
No splash.  There is a reason he’s at KU.  He not proven he’s a top coach.

He has won EVERYWHERE he's been at multiple levels! No one can predict what he might do at the Big Ten conference level, but to assert that he's not a top coach is absurd. He has literally proved it at every level where he's had a chance.

  11. It does like like the season is toast, BUT..........the saving grace (opportunity) in this dumpster is comprised of 3 potentially positive options: (1)the Bye week comes at the perfect time; (2)  Indiana is the most likely "get well" opportunity in the conference and at home and at night;  and (3) the following Friday at Rutgers gives them a shot at being 2-1 in an  atrocious west division. IF (big IF, I understand), they can get above .500..........who knows?  I'm Obviously clinging to the best case scenario in order not to surrender the season 3+ weeks in..................GBR
