What I will say is that it's my believe that him and Kwinten Ives are the two most underrated freshmen coming in.  Just by watching his film you would think he should be ranked higher and be a 4 star.  Just don't know why he didn't receive alot of big offer's bc his play is outstanding for a linebacker.

Kids get there name out there by going to summer camps and competing against players from other states. Media people see them and if they are good the conversations start between the media members. Media couldn't possibly watch video of every sophomore, junior and senior on every team in the country. Maybe he didn't do camps last summer or possibly the pieces all fell together for him last fall and he became the player he was meant to be.

  2. This is the first year Fred has had a team with a pulse. He made defense a strong point and had some success even in the Big Ten. Their best games may have been the overtime loss to Purdue and the win over Iowa. We can't seem to find even one three point shooter with consistency while other teams find 3 or 4. Without a large infusion of NIL money next year it could be a disaster. Sam G, D Walker, and Bandomel are gone and there is no one on the roster who is a solid D1 player beside Juwan Gary. Keita, Kojenets and Breidenbach all seem like projects and should be playing for Nebraska Kearney not Nebraska Lincoln. Tominaga and Wilcher have their nights but Keisei is a defensive liability most nights. With all the good high school players the state has produced the last 3 or 4 years not one has seriously considered the Huskers and I can't blame them. I wish I knew the answer.

I disagree. Rhule and staff seem to be in charge and aggressive. If he has a clear vision and culture for the program and he enforces it I don’t see a troubled kid disrupting that. Frosts lack of leadership yes I could see it undermining the build

I hope the staff can work their magic. Don't want to go down the Scott Baldwin, Lawrence Phillips, Omar Manning rabbit hole again. Bipolar/manic depression is a hard cross to bear.  Wishing the young man nothing but the best.

  4. Unless Rhule and the staff have a plan to overcome Arik's downside it may be an issue to keep him on the field. Sounds like Georgia was unwilling to look any further for answers to his problem. If this goes off the rails it could hinder some of the momentum Matt R is building. I almost wish we had gotten the other TE from Georgia.

Portal kids are a lot less risky than JUCO players, and teams have leaned on them to fill rosters for years.

I certainly agree portal players should be and usually are more effective than junior college kids. Of the fifteen portal players we took last year for this season plus the one juco player, six started every game (two were kickers) and one played about 35% of every game. Of the next five, one saw limited action as sub to let starters rest a series and three were very limited action. Of the next five only Tommi Hill saw action for 3 or 4 early games then was strictly a kick off returner who usually watched the ball go into the end zone. A couple may have been on special teams.  I'm not sure how other team's portal rates fared.

  6. I don't think most of us would disagree that ZB did not get the encouragement that he probably needed at the time to stay with football. He left in March and his former position coach had been fired. Mickey if I remember correctly was on a tough love crusade the first few months he was here. Certainly our current coaches will be tough on him on the field as they will be with all the players but these coaches are cut from a different cloth. I believe they will make every effort to see that he gets what he needs to succeed. The rest will be on him.

Sooo….if he didn’t enroll yesterday a GT, he’s probably ours?

That said, he probably enrolled there just in case.

I haven't heard a thing on whether he ever made it to Lincoln or how the discussion went between he and the coaches. I'm hopeful something breaks today.

Piper was our overall highest-graded OL last year.

He is also the fastest of all our O linemen. I am friends with a local high school football coach who had to play Norfolk Catholic in the playoffs. He told me that Ethan P on defense was catching his running backs from behind. Piper would be the lineman you want for a pulling guard.

  9. I figured this morning it would take 384 years to recoup the initial 5 million investment based on their income at today's corn prices. That doesn't include any tax advantages they might receive or the loss of income on other investments that would have been more profitable. I wonder who their investment advisor is?

  10. I am excited watching this version of Huskers. The defense they play is stifling to most teams. It affects the other teams shooting percentage from about the second minute on by forcing teams late into the shot clock on nearly every possession plus we are boxing out so much better too. I think the maximum effort on defense affects our shooting at times because we don't have a deep bench. What Fred and the new assistants have done with recruiting and coaching is outstanding.
