I think Raiola is more like a Josh Allen, who has made the Bills a better team. I expect the same from Raiola, to raise the play of our offense. The 49ers make Brock Purdy a better QB because of all the talent that surrounds him.

Raiola is a big guy.  Didn't realize how much he weighed. Based on his rushing yards in HS, unsure if he can run like Allen (I'd love it if he does/would/could.  Might have never really had to use his legs.  Unsure if those numbers I have seen accounted for sacks.  But to your point, Allen's QB has improved the offense at all levels.  Thinking that Raiola will make us more multiple than previous years where we can effectively use the WR's, TE's and use the passing game to open up the running game.  Don't need a QB to run like Tommie, but well enough to make DC's account for him.

  2. Even "run the damn ball guy" likes those comments. And QB's who can actually open the running game by being able to throw.  Tired of seeing us try to run against an 8 man front.  And what's not to like about what San Fran is doing.  Dallas runs something similar.  They call it Texas Coast.  Of course San Fran as mentioned has play makers at all key positions, same with Dallas.  Could NU have that?  DR or DK, Fidone/Nelson, Chi, unsure which RB would be named (Emmett Johnson?).  I'd like to see us lean on one guy who gets the vast majority of snaps at RB.

The hypothetical around a 3 star offensive lineman that gets upset about how much his QB is making isn't a dumb conversation. Any college football player could decide to quit for any reason.

The question is, is NU paying at least some kind of minimum salary for all players? I'm pretty sure that we are but I can't prove that.

Assuming we are, then it's a question of whether that same player could go out and get more in the transfer portal at another school (assuming he's not quitting just because he's butthurt). The entire conversation is pretty equivalent to differing salaries in any other workplace, really.

Read something today that the NCAA is looking into allowing Universities to pay athletes directly...Not sure how it would work. https://www.axios.com/2023/12/05/ncaa-student-athlete-compensation-proposal

I will say this, Dylan doesn’t lack in confidence. It may seem scary to some, but I like that he is full of swag and drive.

At first I was a little hmmmmm.  Then re-read and I think he is wanting to be part of something bigger than UGA.  Not just some plug and play guy.  A chance to be a part of something great and be remembered.  Like the Jet, EC and Mike. Nothing wrong with that. Cocky?  Sure. Confident?  Absolutely.  NU needs that.  Needs a playmaker who can elevate those around him.  I think he will. (Kaelin as well).  We need that swagger on the O side of the ball.  The D has it, but when was the last time that the O had that?  I'm ready for 2024!  I want a cocky gunslinger who can make the D pay for 8 in the box.  One who can drop dimes and move the ball.  And this from "run the damn ball guy".

  5. This article doesn't sound promising....Maybe Wiltfong back tracking to save face?

"In a bit of a twist, while Raiola was in Lincoln, he’s continued to stay in contact with the Bulldogs staff and has asked questions would that lead to believe he’s still thinking about staying at Georgia as well. While nearly all the intel says the Huskers are in position to pull this off, Raiola is maintaining dialogue with the program he’s been a verbal to since May," Wiltfong said, via 247Sports

You are either overthinking or clearly out of your mind.  Or trying too hard to put him on the bench and wait his turn.

Let me run it down to you so it makes sense.

    - 3 years have come and gone, and he has been "The best HS QB prospect" across the board, or near it, year after year.  The Best. Among the best.

-He is 230lbs. He's 6'3.  Do you think he needs time to sit and redshirt to get physically ready to play football?  Think about that.

-He played great in Texas.  He played great in Arizona.  He played great in Georgia.  He's a great player.

    - He has three years before he can go pro.  Why would you want him to sit out one year behind HH or Purdy for a year?  3 years and gone to be a Pro player.

    - Why would you think he needs to sit behind anyone?  Has Nebraska had QB troubles over the years?  Has Nebraska been to bowl games in 6 years?  Do you sit and wait your turn, even if you are the best on a team that wins 4 or 5 games a year?  That doesn't make sense.

-Why do you need to have a transfer QB to come in and have him carry the clipboard?  Did 2AM not start his true freshmen season and do Ok?

You don't have to expect miracles during year one with him starting when he earns that right, with the best arm talent and physical ability on the team.  I just think the idea to "redshirt him, let him sit back and learn and get physically ready so he can be great in year 3 and 4" is ridiculous.  That's old 80's and early 90's thinking.

If he's the best QB recruit in HS and bails out on Georgia, says "No thank you" to Alabama, USC, Texas, Ohio State, LSU, Oregon, Washington, etc, etc.......... you know he's already the best QB on the team.  No offense to Haarberg and Purdy and Sims (who had to leave).  Please don't tell me you have to wait your turn to play QB at Nebraska.  The whole state and fan base will tell you "Well, if he's that good, get him out there on the field ASAP".

Unless you like fullbacks and walkons.

You know me. I love me some FB:D  But I agree with you.  Raiola wasn’t recruited by all of those schools to sit for a year or 2. He was recruited to play and make an impact immediately.  He is a game changer.  Something NU needs.  We are very this in the “game on the line who needs the ball” type of guy.  He’s that guy.  Will it translate immediately his first year?  Who knows…. But I feel like had he been here this year we are probably sitting at 8-4 at the least.  We need to win sooner than later.  And he is a big piece to getting that done.

  7. Rhule on Pat McAfee for 45 minutes, Raiola and McC both visiting, Rhule going after other "big" gets etc....All after a 5-7 season.  Dude is getting it done.  Not a lot of other 5-7 teams getting this much press and shaking up the portal and recruiting world at this point this year.  I'll take it.  (Any word on Kaelin still coming?)

Now if we land Raiola, McC and some of the others I will be shocked, but for today, we are in the media for all the right reasons.

I honestly think Sims was the best they thought they could get at the time and they also thought that he would be a pass first qb. Can’t remember where I saw it but that’s what Rhule was quoted saying of Sims. We all know how that turned out. It’s still shocking how much of a miss he was.

No doubt.  Especially the comments about him being an NFL talent.  Dude looked the part for sure.  Just the wheels fell off game one and he never got straightened out.  I can't remember a guy with that many turn overs in so few games....

Watching T-Mart launch TDs because Okie Lite had spies and contain was fun. I also remember our defense/punt coverage not being great.

Our kick/punt return game is also an overlooked piece of Nebraska’s overall decline. Wiggins, Walker, Groce, Newcome, Paul, Ameer, and DPE. During the Frost years, we got down to “Just catch the ball!”

IIRC, the ST really took off after Bo took over.  I felt like we always had a shot to break one in the return game.  We had some good athletes come through here those years for sure.

Not that odd considering they recruited DK. Seems like they have been planning to go that direction for a while now.

If that's the point they wanted to go (given Satts preference) just seems odd in hindsight they go after Sims year one.  And after having run the entire season (out of necessity) with a QB ru centric offense, we might be getting the most static of the "better" QB's in the portal.Kaelin is definitely a traditional QB only running for 169 yards this season on 60 some odd attempts.  And looking at Raiola's stats, he hasn't had positive yards as a rusher since Soph year.  So you have a point that we appear to moving into the era of a static QB.....

I don't know if they ever truly wanted a QB run game. Simply playing the cards that were dealt with the offensive personnel on the team.

Odd they went after Sims as their must "get" last year and now McCord (or other more traditional QB's). Two opposite styles for sure.  I don't think Satt was really ever a QB run game guy.  Im guessing Rhule is smart enough to look at potential QB's and what they can do with what we have and who else is coming in.  I just can't believe that we are now on year 7 with no bowl game....
