Yes that is how this all shook out.  Peetz was to beQB/OC

But again it’s going down the road of hiring guys with proven track record of suck and expecting things to change after, as certain fans cry out, give them time.  A road and rally cry of the fan base for the last decade

This honestly makes me question the hiring of Rhule.  He had no plan B and the plan he went with "promotes" the guy he demoted.  I am all for giving time, but there are some red flags in year one that shouldn't be dismissed as "this is his first year"....

Since Satt isn't going anywhere can we at-least go back to the plan of having a designated qb coach and Satt coaching TE's. If Peetz still isn't available then go find somebody else. Back at Temple Rhule changed Satt's position responsibility from qb's to rb's for a reason.

I was unaware of this.  Appreciate the info.  Why would Rhule make him QB coach at NU?  I am assuming that Satt was never intended to be the OC/QB coach, but when Peetz bowed out Rhule had no other option?

Actual laughing out loud at people who think a scheme change to a guy whose system is almost exactly the same as what we did this season somehow saves the program. I legitimately want to smoke what you're smoking, not even kidding.

The core issue that stood between us and a bowl game this season was turnovers. Over and over again our QB's & ball carriers f***ed up in new and hilarious ways.

We ran the option this year. We ran fullback traps. Scheme can't/didn't un-f*** our situation. Not making constant unforced errors will be the biggest thing that does that.

I hear what you are saying.  Turn overs have doomed this team this season and in previous years.  It will be close to impossible to win at a high level when throwing more INT’s than TD’s and leading the nation in TO’s.  But just because a guy teaches a certain scheme, doesn’t mean he knows the scheme.  There is a world of difference in the ability to convey the nuances, subtleties and technicalities of a system vs knowing teaching what you have “heard”.  We also threw the forward pass this year.  Does that idea suck as well?  Running some plays, trap, counter, jet sweep, roll outs, drop back passing etc…doesn’t mean that’s our scheme or offensive identity.  I still have no idea what our scheme is or was supposed to be.  Looked like the “try anything”.  In year one, with what we had it was probably the best we could do.

If Satt (insert coach) isn’t a master of said system it won’t be as good.  Hard to adjust when you don’t know the ins and outs, but just the basics.  Very difficult to teach that.  Just like wrestling coach knows how to grapple, he won’t be able to teach BJJ without knowing BJJ. At least not at a level to have high success.  Same with other martial arts, flying a single engine prop plane or a multi engine jet, general practitioner or cardia surgeon.  If what we are it runnings is not Satts specialty, it’s a disservice to him and the team.  If it’s not what Rhule wants to run then shame on him.  If Rhule wants a hard nose running team, then find that guy.  If he wants to run a pro style then get that guy.  And again to your point, nothing will change until we fixed the TO issues.

I can tell you this: South Carolina was ecstatic that y’all hired him away. They were beyond worried that Beamer wouldn’t fire him after last season.

Pitiful numbers. It seems he has joined Callahan, Riley & Frost as HCs who have an albatross in the form of a coordinator tied around his neck.

Off season will tell.  Still baffles me, all that money and we hire Satt, Doogie Houser at WR, an analysts after TE is let go, keep Raiola.  All that money. And all because Peetz stayed at LA.  No real back up, but promote every up to spots they were not originally hired for. I understand getting guys you trust, but like Frost bringing his crew, Riley getting a great retirement set up for his guys, Cally and Cos etc.....

Like you I’m a Korn fan. He’d have to bring a QB with him. But I don’t think Rhule will fire Satt who will become Rhule’s downfall. I’m hoping Trev is hearing from boosters who want a change.

I know!  I think the only 2 LOL.  I think that Rhule will keep him.  Will make me question Rhule tbh.  This was Satt's offensive rankings in FBS.  He hasn't has real success as an OC anywhere.

Seems they don’t hate losing enough because losing close is the identity of this program as it stands.

3-4 players on each side of the ball need to become junkyard dogs and chew some a$$, rip each other up, and hold each other accountable.

I read the book a long time ago.  Jason Peter's book "Hero of the Underground"  Believe this was the right book, but he talked about getting after guys in the locker room at half if they screwed up.  That was a team of dogs.

We agree on a lot and I could have written a lot of what you did. I have brought up Paul Chryst. If you

want to keep Satt give Chryst QB coaching duties and you at least have another credible voice on the offensive side of the ball. I am a firm believer not one skill player is going to save this offense. We have seen that trick at places like Purdue and Indiana and it never goes far. It has to start with the OL and the reason I have wanted Raiola out is because I don’t see our OL control games we should win easily. Every game is a struggle. Our RB’s never get going, our QB’s are not well protected. I thought the RB’s with all the injuries made the best of it. Our WRs are young so jury still out. But this OL scares no one. OK we improved in penalty yards? How could you not improve from such a hole?  Who did we push around? Who did we wear down in the second half?  It should have been teams like MSU, Maryland, Minny.  7-8 wins was very achievable and so that is why there should be consequences. The staff is not cutting it on the offensive side. Need players and coaching both.

The bolded sums it up for me.  White and Co got true freshman playing meaningful snaps.  They got starters from guys not even on Frosts radar.  Guys to play in a completely different scheme.  Throw in how Ty and Hut came on.  They also dealt with multiple injuries, but found a way to make it work.  And improve TREMENDOUSLY as it relates to run D.

Well that’s true and that’s where we are at. You’re right. Nobody coming here better to play QB. So it’s the Chubb’s Kaelim show next year. So. Get ready to copy/paste all these threads for next year. We all understand it’s a 3-4 year project until it takes more than a year. There are no quick fixes to that QB room. In fact, may get that OLine fixed much quicker which is sickening to think about.

In the day of NIL and the Transfer Portal, there are no longer any 3-4 year rebuilds.  Players, admn, fans all want wins sooner than 3-4 years IMHO.

  11. I picked 4-8 or an optimistic 5-7.....BUT, I got optimistic as the season progressed and thought that with one opportunity to get 1 with 4 games remaining we were going bowling.  MSU- 6 game losing streak.  Maryland 4 game losing streak and  Wisky with 3 game losing streak....I got caught hoping.  So my original thoughts they met my expectations, but really thought we'd go bowling

Offense-D.  Only because we won some games

Defense B- Thought about a C, but they kept us in games despite the offense.  Had they gotten more TO's/stops could be an A.  Sadly screwed by a D offense.

    ST-C. They were probably C- or D+

Overall a D.  They pi$$ed away win after win after win after win....to another losing season.  With no bowl or extra practices.

When I look at the various things we can do, I wouldn’t mind starting over on offense entirely. We need superior coaches for OC, OL, QB, WR, TE…it just goes on an on. But who is that hire and what others can he bring with him? Do you look at Peetz again?

I'm with you on starting over.  It is not as though we were successful with whatever we were trying.  Or that guys are completely invested (multiple years) in this scheme, language, techniques etc....We had issues with the basics imo. Blocking, passing, catching, route running etc....Not some super fancy techniques that they were being taught.

Unsure if Peetz would leave.  He is now the passing game coordinator.  Stafford has been injured and Kupp is questionable again.  Maybe he looks and sees that LA might take a step back and takes the offer again.  Solid resume.

I am an apologist for Korn at Liberty so I am biased.  I like Chadwell's scheme.  BUT his is also predicated on a true dual threat QB who can run AND pass.  Without that "guy" it'll have issues.  And right now NU doesn't have that guy.  Look at Paul Chryst (analyst at Texas). Do you look at a guy like Tyler Roehl at NDSU or Mike Shanahan at JMU....I am unsure if we are going to get a P5 OC to come here if Satt is let go.  Save some money and put that into White, maybe new assistants etc...I am a huge homer fan, but my red colored glasses have come off.  I do not think that we are destination for many established OC's (with potential HC aspirations) so FCS or G5 might be the route we have to go.  If that is what Rhule decides.  In reality, watching a lot of college football, coaching is a lot of it, but we don't pass the eye ball test compared to a lot of what I am watching on tv...We are lacking Jimmy and Joes as well.  BUT better coaching will result in at least better development.  Another thought on Rhule, he came from Temple (AAC) and Baylor (Big 12) and neither conference was known for its physicality, but more for its "basketball on grass" style of play.  Track star speed is great in those two conferences, but the B1G is a brutal, physical league.  A burner is great at receiver to take the top off the D, but we need a QB who is a threat to get to him.  Maybe what has worked personnel wise it those previous stops won't work at NU or in the B1G.  Season 1, hoping he questions some of his previous thoughts.  Can't get bogged down with the "it's worked everywhere else, so it'll work here mentality".....

On to the off season and wait for the portal to open and recruit signings....

  13. I think MSU.  As was previously mentioned, a 6 game losing streak and they won.  In typical NU fashion, we blow it.  Just further proof of how far we have fallen and how much we need to become competitive.  Different coach, different scheme, a lot of the same players and the same problems....I have no answers.  Just kills me other teams, in much "worse" positions have turned it around.  I mean Duke was friggin ranked.  UNC.  Basketball schools.....We recruit better, better facilities, better traditions and history, but we are truly a bottom feeder of P5 right now.

Its all about hiring the right head coach and staff.  Tired of making excuses for every staff that gets hired here.  We all see Kansas, Kansas St, Mizzou, Northwestern with an interim, Iowa St, and Wyoming.  All of these teams are better than us and have better coaching staffs and head coaches. Recruiting is very important, but KU, KSU and Iowa St have mediocre recruiting numbers and manage to win games and make bowl games.  They develop what they recruit.  To than I will give Rhule more time, but if we are still sitting here two years from now with this same product, then its all coaching.  Will say this again.  We played 4 or 5 of the worst offenses in Power 5 football this season and lost those games.  Our defense is fine, but against teams who were rated in the Top 60 in offense all beat us.  Even teams rated last beat us.  This was not a shut down defense, rather a bend but don't break defense that bent more and broke more as the season closed.  Again, will give the defense a good rating, but not great.  We can say culture and curses, but its all up to the current staff to rectify those areas.  Its up to the staff to develop a QB and also pick the right transfer.  Its all up to the staff to evaluate talent and bring in the right pieces to improve this roster.  They clearly didn't like Casey, and chose Simms.  This one decision cost this roster and team at least 3 wins.  Yes, that decision to me was the biggest with hindsight.  If your watching game film and you think that Simms is the answer over Casey, there was hidden motives behind that because on the field it is not even a question.  We kept most of the roster from last season, but we didn't keep a QB who was the brightest spot on last years team..................Figure that one out.

Agree with your post.  Other teams do significantly more, with significantly less.  And here we are.  The longest P5 bowl less streak, most 1 score losses since 1900 and lead the country in TO's,  Again.....And our D is good, not great when looking at the calibre of offenses we played. Unsure if we beat a team above 5 wins....

I like Rhule. I think he was a good hire, but I did not like the Satt hire and still don't.  Questionable play calls and he was the QB coach.  The weakest position on the team. And some on the board were saying that Satt was picked as the WR coach, but Peetz chose to stay at the Rams so we got Satt by default.  McGuire as the WR coach.  Really?  1st position coach gig at NU, in the B1G, and with all your contacts this is your guy?  TE coach got the DUI and then an analysts or some other spot is the TE coach.  Not lost on me that these two under performed all season.  Yes QB had some issues, but they dropped a lot of balls, didn't really block hard and ran some poor routes.  I'm tired of the  "but they're Fresh excuses"....Other teamshave young guys and they do well.  Our OL seemed not to improve much.  At least against teams that banged back.  Didn't help we have no QB with pocket presence, but have they improved? In year 2 with the same position coach.  Rhule and presumably Satt, picked Sims....

Rhule needs to do some analyzing in the off season as it relates to staff, scheme and talent.  IF he wants to throw body blows in the 4th, and rush for 75 yards, that OC isn't on staff.  And they might want to get a second opinion on QB picks...

Yes I am sick and tired of the losing.  The missing bowls. The moral victories etc.......

Why did they get rid of Bo, he was a great coach

He dropped the F-Bomb too much.  The admn hated him as he was close to TO, Carl (his brother) hit on or picked up some donors wife IIRC. Eichorst when he fired him made a comment to the effect of where Iowa is and where we are and that we did not want to fall in mediocrity......Bo was 3-1 against Iowa....40-2 against teams sub .500....was something like 9-14 against ranked teams....Yep drunk monkey....

  16. Showing through 11 games it appears that we are 114th in offense.  And we lost to Iowa.  Who has the worst......Our offense, scheme, Satt or players is complete trash.  The sooner that Rhule admits that to ALL those involved, we will be here again next year.  IN the age of NIL and portal transfers, players, teams, schools are not built for a long term rebuild. Instant gratification is the name of the game.

Regretfully, I agree.  The regretful part is that Bo often was not the best representative of the school.  But perhaps it is better to have a sometimes well meaning jerk who wins vs a nice guy who loses.

Or a Vikings fan as well.

Yep.  I truly miss Bo's passion.  Rome is burning and Riley watched chewing gum, Frost all stoic and arms crossed and Rhule just meanders up and down the sidelines....At least Bo was at risk of getting a 15 yard sideline penalty or an injection for yelling at the refs.  Kids would run through a wall for him.  I am also disappointed in Rhule after the "If we die, we die speech.   That was like the Spartans "with your shield or on it", but he hasn't lived up to that.  Nor has the team played to that.  He got me this year with his speeches.  Not again....

And one of their wins was against us.  Hard for me to ridicule Prime when we have lost the last 3 to CU.  And the last one to him.  They were 1-11.  Going 4-8.  Improvement.  We were 5-7 last year.  5-7 this year.  Our D "looked" better, but the O is the worst in P5 for sure.  Possibly the entire FBS. I'll wait until the season is over to see where we ranked.  I am guessing no higher than 128...

The last three plays of this game summed up the current state of the program. Driving to win - interception. Need a stop to make the opponent FG tougher - gashed up the middle. Then, lose to a kicker who hadn’t kicked all year.  Because he has a winning mindset.

These kids had no will to win the West. The undefeated October was their trophy. They thought they had a bowl locked. Then their true colors showed.

No slander when I say this. They’re losers.

People hated Prime and what he did day one at CU.  Not saying Rhule needs to go nuclear, but they have been part of, accepted and have been an integral part of of the worst run of Husker football in history....That's an issue.
