  1. Cars aren't specifically designed with killing people in mind. Guns, on the other hand, are, Mr. Strawman. Gun ownership is guaranteed by the Constitution. Car ownership, on the other hand, is not. And dying by accident in a head-on collision with a drunk driver is probably no more acceptable to the victim than dying as a result of a drive-by shooting. What does gun ownership have to do with car ownership? Nada. Zilch. Zero. Nothing. You know you can't back up your arguments with fact and reason so you have to bring strawmen into it to make yourself feel better. I'll try to explain it so even you get it. If you're so anxious to ban things that kill people, why not first start with the big killers - I used cars as an example, but the fact is that tobacco and alcohol also kill people. The problem with most leftists' arguments against gun ownership is that danged old, outdated Constitution. It guarantees that we can own guns. It does not guarantee that we can use drugs (to include alcohol), tobacco, or cars. So, which do the left-wingers go after - the one guaranteed by the Constitution. Then they somehow pretend that they, and not I, argue with facts and reason. And I don't have to bring strawmen in to make me feel better. The Constitution makes me feel just fine. It's the leftists who get their panties in a wad when someone uses a gun to kill. Why do they do that, when by all accounts the fight over gun control is over. Because it makes them feel all warm and fuzzy for taking a stand.

  3. If you're dead-set against gun ownership, I suggest that you organize a grass-roots campaign to get an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that prohibits the ownership of guns. It's that simple. Then every gun in the U.S. will magically disappear. Kinda like liquor and beer did between 1920 and 1933. The fact is that the argument over gun control is pretty much settled. We should be working on automobile control - 7,630 people died in vehicle crashes in the first quarter of this year - a 13% increase over the same period in 2011. Outlaw cars? The Constitution doesn't include owning them as a right. http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/23/travel/us-traffic-fatalities/index.html
  4. You are right, you could argue that only members of a militia could bear arms. Wait a minute...I think that has been argued before the Supreme Court. Why, yes, it has. And the Supreme Court ruled otherwise. I really respect your Constitutional expertise, but I believe I'll go with the Supreme Court on this one. we will have to wait to see the long term affect of dc v. heller. as for me, i would rather not have society bound by what was best over 200 years ago. I like freedom of speech and all of those other 211-year-old amendments that make up the Bill of Rights. I do. And come to find out, so does the Supreme Court.

  6. The Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms. It doesn't say "for hunting" and it doesn't limit the size of the clip, and it doesn't say anything about whether or not the gun can be fully automatic or semi-automatic. People who want to limit the ownership of guns are usually not "originalists" when it comes to the Constitution, but when comes to this they often remind us that the framers were originally talking about muskets so Ak-47's therefore should be outlawed. I don't own an AK-47, but I don't want the Government telling which guns I can and cannot own.
  7. Here's a bit of good news: President Obama is going to continue speaking without a teleprompter despite the fact that he "stepped in it" (my quotes) with his "you didn't build that" statement". In fact he's now bragging about it when he goes off script and doesn't screw up. On Wednesday, for example, in a speech to the National Urban League, Obama drew applause and cheers when he veered off script to urge young Americans to study — and then specifically pointed out he was speaking extemporaneously. "You're competing against young people in Beijing and Bangalore," Obama said. "You know, they're not hangin' out. They're not gettin' over. They're not playin' video games. They're not watching 'Real Housewives.' "That wasn't in my prepared remarks," Obama offered up quickly, to applause. "But I'm just saying." I can only add, "Way to go...you da' man!!!" http://thehill.com/h...-plans-on-stump
  8. Not sure who we could depend on to enforce any new regulations. ATF and DOJ wouldn't be able to - they have shown that when it comes to keeping track of guns (especially fully automatic assault weapons), they are only interested in covering their butts. And they aren't too good at that either.
  9. Gaffes? I thought that we were talking about totally real statements and not at all about manufactured outrage? I'll take the name as a sign that you're done PMing complaints to Mods about being called "Yos." A grown man complaining about being called a shortened form of his name on the internet? That's hilarious. Please stop with the personal stuff. It makes me uncomfortable.
  10. Wrong again, carly. Fox reported it.
  11. Didn't you get the warning about staying on topic and not talking about posters?

  13. Is that where you keep your stockpile, Yos? Yes, I sell gaffes to the White House. They prefer used ones.
  14. Porn. Just good ole American porn. i wonder if my earlier reference to 'hentai' is relevant?
  15. Bottom line on this is that the Constitution permits gun ownership, the American Public agrees, and the SCOTUS has ruled on the matter repeatedly. While I am a gun owner, I see no reason to own an AK-47. I can protect myself just fine with what I have. Gun ownership in the Constitution has noting to do with what's suitable for hunting..
  16. Don't you get it? Obama is so incompetent, Charlie Sheen could do the job as well.
  17. Oh, I know that derp is simply another way to say something or someone is stupid. Still, t's an unusual choice of words to use in this discussion. language is fluid. and derp makes perfect sense to be used on the internet, it is a very popular meme theme. do not understand how dailykos got brought up. I would have assumed you read DailyKOS every day, just as you assume I watch Fox. You spout the same derp.

  19. I tried to explain here: http://www.huskerboa...post__p__973036 I did a poor job of it. I'll try again. "That" doesn't refer to the business unless you rip the quote away from all context as the attack ads have done. Obama made a poor grammatical choice and said "that" instead of "those." That made it easy for the Romney campaign to base their entire ad war on a willful misrepresentation of Obama's statement. Now we are explaining away President Obama's collectivist philosophy as simply a bad choice of words; i.e., he said "that" when he meant "those." What he said was a complete, standalone sentence: "If you own a business...you didn't build that." I can understand why he doesn't have a clue about what it takes to build a business. He's never been involved in building one, and he wouldn't know a good one from a bad one. Evidence? Solyndra. But he's right about Solyndra, they couldn't have lasted long enough to spend $500,000,000 and go belly up without Government help. i am pretty impressed for you to be speaking so knowledgeably on business. forgive me for assuming, but you must have built many, many businesses? also, i do agree he should have worded it better, but i still agree with his sentiment. we all helped gm recover through a massive bailout. and in a rational nation we should be proud that we were able to come together to help save an american institution and american jobs; even though that is a great example of welfare and wealth redistribution. This isn't about me and how many businesses I have "built." Besides the 1st Amendment allows me to voice opinions about anything I like - whether i know what I'm talking about or not. Just as the President does...
  20. Bits and pieces of what I can stomach. I've watched in the past, long ago, just like I used to listen to Rush long ago (think 1990s) but when they dove too far off the deep end I couldn't handle it any more. I used to be a registered Republican, volunteered in a campaign, the whole nine yards. Card-carrying Reagan Republican, right here. But as the party veered more and more to the right, I just couldn't go along with them. I despised Bill Clinton as president, but even disliking him as much as I did I could not stand listening to Limbaugh whine on and on about every single thing Clinton said/did. There was plenty to criticize about Clinton, but it just got too much. If you criticize Barack Obama USING THE VERY WORDS AND PHRASES USED BY FOX NEWS, you are accused of regurgitating Fox News. Funny how that works, huh? You believe anyone who criticizes the President can't come up with reasons on their own? I can....and I have. Of course I don't believe that. I'm simply pointing out - correctly, I might add - that the very same derp I hear coming from the mouths of Fox News "people" (they're not news anchors - what are they called?) I read here on HuskerBoard. And yet, the people who post it protest they didn't hear it from Fox, they came up with it on their own. Not believable. "derp" - unusual choice of words to use in what is supposed to be an attempt at honest discussion. Don't believe I've heard it used anywhere except at DailyKOS and in animated "stuff." I don't discount what you say simply because if it is regurgitated left wing talking points. I try to counter the argument. That's all.
  21. Yeah . . . we know. You said that you keep a stockpile. It's easy. They are all over the internet.
  22. Do you believe it or are you just following the party line? Believe it? Heck, I saw him do it. I was apparently giving you too much credit. Funny stuff. Thanks, Yos. Don't call me Yos. I consider that "poking."
