  1. Full Back:

    1. Hard-Nosed - When this guy runs the ball, it's going to be right through the line! If you need a first down, he's going to pound the ball fast and in your face. This poster tells it like it is and doesn't hold back any emotion.
    2. Blocker - The FB can be the guy who springs the last hole for the RB or could stand up an oncoming LB in his tracks. Any time a poster needs a little extra info to make his point, this guy is right there to help him out! As with other blockers, this poster might not get the flashy TV time like the QB, RB, and WR do.
    3. Sure Hands - Primarily involved on 3rd down, you have to watch for this guy's late screening ability. Not only can he get that last yard, but the FB can stop on a five yard route and bang his way to the first down or even a TD! So ideally, the person most befitting of FB might not be a "dedicated" poster, but when they are here, they make good on their appearance.

  2. Q: Is that kind of what happened with the running game against UCLA? Or was that more UCLA’s lack of run defense?

A: “Some teams are easier to run against. If you just watch UCLA’s season, the teams that did well against them ran the ball right at them. So it became pretty obvious as I watched all the film, this is a direction we need to go.
“This is what this team has to do to be good: run the ball, be selective what you do in the passing game, make these isolated throws from the quarterback because you’re running the ball well.
“I know that sounds late, but in our first year, we found out more about ourselves as we went. We ran the ball well against Michigan State. We’ve got to blame ourselves — look at the sequence of calling, how we call plays. We’ll take all the criticism. We get it.
“But, God dang, we had so many chances to win games. I looked at it the other day, the games and the scores. God darned, this thing could have been so drastically different with a few plays.”
Q: Why do you think you didn’t run it more? Was it a lack of trust in your line or the backs?
A: “I don’t think we had the confidence to run it all the time, so we had a pretty good mixture. Frankly, you learn more as you go.”
Q: The bowl game would indicate you can run out of this offense if you focus on it.
A: “I hope so. I think we can look in hindsight: This might have been a better identity for this team all along. And it was something, unfortunately, we uncovered late. But you still have to be able to do both. There are going to be (defenses) who will try and take it away if you are one-dimensional.”

  3.

Q: What are you looking for in a replacement? Young? Veteran? Good recruiter?

A: “I’m putting a profile together. It’s going to be a blend of football coach, recruiter and right staff member. I’ve got an initial list of 50 people that I’ve pared down to 10, from across the country, people who contacted us.”

The play-by-play wasn't pretty, as can be expected when one team is making its debut and another is playing its second game nearly three months removed from the season opener. Early in the first half, Doane kicked off from the wrong yard line. Both teams did plenty of rolling around in the mud, failing to gain yards with any regularity. Nebraska painstakingly built a 14-0 first-half lead — that's three four-point touchdowns and a two-point kick, as the game was then scored — then tacked on four more points in the second half after a Husker fell on a bungled Doane kick in the end zone to lock up an 18-0 victory. "The Doane team has no occasion to be discouraged over its defeat, for considering that no one in the school had ever seen a foot-ball game, and that it was thus almost purely theoretical, the game was a well contested one."

  5. Shon Mitchell has had a tremendous high school career. The 2017 Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith quarterback, who led his team to a 13-1 record and state championship appearance this fall, is attracting interest from several major college programs.

    ...

As a junior, Mitchell completed 215-of-300 passes for 2,950 yards and 25 touchdowns. So far in his high school career, he has thrown for 8,225 yards and 100 touchdowns. He is also 39-4 as a starter.
