  2. As I mentioned earlier, if the legislature fails to act and we are forced to proceed with these cuts, the LSU Ag Center and parish extension offices in every parish, and Pennington Biomedical Research Center will close by April 1st and the LSU main campus in Baton Rouge will run out of money after April 30th, as will the Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and LSU Eunice. There is no money left for payroll after those dates. The Southern University System, and University of Louisiana System, and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System are in the same boat: without legislators approving new revenue this special session, some campuses will be forced to declare financial bankruptcy, which would include massive layoffs and the cancellation of classes.

If you are a student attending one of these universities, it means that you will receive a grade of incomplete, many students will not be able to graduate and student athletes across the state at those schools will be ineligible to play next semester. That means you can say farewell to college football next fall.

  3. But Wilhite firmly believes in the power of the walk-on program. He saw it first-hand as a Husker who’d just joined NU’s program in 1990. Though Wilhite moved to defensive back, he began his career at wingback, and on the depth chart he found himself behind two walk-ons: Dan Pleasant and Brad Devall.

“I thought I was a really good athlete, but I was always behind those two on the depth chart,” Wilhite said. “I’d go home and ask myself: ‘What are they doing that I’m not doing?’ So I took it upon myself to watch those guys and learn from those guys. They worked their butts off in the weight room and the classroom, and on the football field, if Coach (Ron) Brown wanted them to take a step with their right foot, they stepped with their right foot. If they were supposed to cut a defensive back’s outside leg, they cut a defensive back’s outside leg.
“I watched them and learned what it meant to be a Nebraska football player.”
A native of St. Louis, Wilhite moved to defensive back and nabbed All-Big Eight honors in 1991 after intercepting six passes. He had another strong year in 1992, then played four seasons in the Canadian Football League. Wilhite coached at various stops, including the six years at Southeast Missouri State, where former Nebraska defensive ends coach Tony Samuel was head coach.

Not true...we were told it was Riley and only Riley.

That's not necessarily true. Pull up SE's quotes. I believe he said offered only one man the job. Doesn't mean there weren't short private conversations with others to test interests.

You have to remember, Riley had turned down many opportunities in past...

Nope. That's not what ADSE said. That's what Harvey said.

  5. A close friend of Jerry Kill said Thursday the former Minnesota football coach was considered for Nebraska's head coaching position in late 2014 after Bo Pelini was fired.

"When (Pelini) got fired, Jerry wanted to come to Nebraska," said Carl Mauck, a longtime NFL offensive line coach who's retired and lives in Lincoln.
"Nebraska talked to his agent," Mauck said. "Jerry knew I was coming up here (to live in Lincoln). He asked me, 'What do you think about that job?' I said, 'Do you have to ask? If I were you, I'd take it in a heartbeat.'"
The 68-year-old Mauck, after retiring from the NFL, worked for a couple years on Kill's staff at Southern Illinois. Mauck talked about the Nebraska-Kill contact during a wide-ranging interview Thursday.

  6. Pretty tough to choose but I'd probably have to give the edge to Holmes. He is the highest-rated and our defense might actually work with elite corners.

If I didn't think as highly of POB as I do, I would have gone with Gebbia as I think we're in dire need of a QB but I think we're in better shape now.

None of that is a knock against KJJ. I just think we have more pressing needs than WR.
