This might be a compromise. Allow kids to sign financial aid papers any time. Binds the school but not the kid.
I don't think it solves all the issues. But I think it would slow things down and be better for the kids.

Separate from the discussions about Scalia, eventually there will be a replacement.
This seems to sum up the situation pretty well, for both sides:
No. 1: No nominee for the high court can get through the Senate before the election. No one.
No. 2: President Obama and the Democratic candidates for president know that. So do Republicans. All God’s children know it.No. 3: Since the nominee will not be approved, Obama will use the opportunity to advance other goals. He will propose someone who burnishes his own progressive credentials and shows why control of the court depends on the November election. Putting Senate Republicans in an awkward position would be a nice bonus. But the target is November.No. 4: Obama will nominate someone whose demographic characteristics help in the contests for president and U.S. Senate. That is not just his main criterion. It is his only one. The candidate could be from a purple state. Or a Latino. Or openly gay. Having finished law school would be a plus.No. 5: The proposed candidate will not receive a Senate vote before the election or in the lame-duck session. If Mitch McConnell even considered it, he would become the former majority leader.No. 6: Democrats and Republicans will both use the issue to show voters why it is crucial to elect them -- and not the other party. Democrats will add that this again shows we have a "do nothing" Congress. Republicans will say it shows we have “do too much” judges.No. 7: All the rest is political theater, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. -
Said getting a Wisconsin offer was a "dream come true." So there's that.

I don't see how anyone can think NU can put together a long winning streak of any kind, based on what we have seen from the team the past few years.
Some people will want to show faith with the new staff, but I need to see it happen first.
I definitely see what you're saying.
But two years ago we won five in a row. Four years ago we won six in a row. So it's not like it hasn't happened.
We could win 10 games - losing to Oregon and Ohio State - while only having one stretch of five in a row.

Well .... we have Fresno State, Wyoming, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and Maryland on the schedule. Not losing more than one of those would be five wins and it should be six.
Then there's Northwestern, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. You'd hope we could at least go 2-2 against them which would be 7-8 wins.
And there's really no reason we can win all 10 of those.
That only leaves Oregon and Ohio State as games most people would "expect" us to lose.
Five wins would be an absolute failure. Six or Seven wins would be bad but may be explained by how things go. Eight or more is really where we should be with any kind of improvement.

Got a big ratings bump from 247.
Would like to keep grabbing the "local" linemen but I have to think Iowa has the edge.
Not exactly "local", Bettendorf is as far east in Iowa as you can go.
That's what the quotes are for.

I think Newby was hindered by injury and misuse last year.
Hopefully he can stay healthy. If he does that and we do make more of a commitment to the running game, I think he'll have a big year.

1) Going strictly by seeding, Jordan was never upset in the playoffs. Against teams seeded the same or lower, Jordan's teams had a perfect 24-0 series record.
2) In the 11 seasons he played at least 20 games with the Chicago Bulls, Jordan finished in the top 5 of MVP voting 10 times. The exception? His rookie season when he finished sixth.
5) Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon are the only players in NBA history to win MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season.
7) Jordan played in 35 NBA Finals games. He was his team’s outright leading scorer in 32 of them with Scottie Pippen (twice) and Toni Kukoc (once) the only others to lead the Bulls in scoring.
8) Jordan is the only player to win an NBA title, NCAA title and multiple Olympic gold medals.
9) In the 1993 NBA Finals, Jordan scored 38.4 percent of the Bulls' total points. That’s the largest percentage of team points any player has been responsible for in a single NBA Finals.
17) There were five seasons in which Jordan led the NBA in both Player Efficiency Rating and usage percentage. All other players in NBA history have combined to do it four times, with no other player doing it more than once.
19) Jordan shot 49.7 percent from the floor for his career. He had 10 seasons in which he shot better than 47 percent from the floor, something Bryant has not done a single time. Bryant would need to make his next 2,496 shots in order to catch Jordan in career field-goal percentage.
22) Jordan’s title teams did not blow leads. In the six seasons they won the title, they were 42-0 in the playoffs and 210-5 in the regular season when leading by 10 or more entering the fourth quarter.- 1

It's been 11 days. And I don't know of many other situations where a player took a fall like that and was unconscious.
