Three Crystal Ball picks for Oregon today ahead of his visit this weekend.

Mom is going with him. Says she might move to Oregon if he goes there.

Says he likes their offense and depth chart. Specifically mentioned their QB spot will be open next year and the chance to play early.

Seems to have some concern about what style of offense Nebraska will run down the road. Seems to think he may fit in better at Oregon.

If he's not on the team, I don't see how his scholarship would count against the limit -- whether or not he still has it. How odd, though.

 

Is he going to transfer because he doesn't want to redshirt? Is he giving up football?

Once they're on scholarship after a certain date, they count against the limit. Happened a couple years ago where Suttles and Brown didn't even start classes in the fall semester but they still counted against the limit.

I would speculate that he'll look at his options and transfer, probably at semester.

Says Wisconsin and Nebraska will be two of his official visits. Plans to take all five but not sure on the other three yet.

 

Foster is unlikely for week 1? Considering theres a high chance hes one of the suspended players i'd say 100% he doesnt play.

 

I've heard his name floated as well. Will be interesting to see when we find out, as Riley said he wanted it to come out "early."

Also, it would be somewhat ironic if one of the first suspensions was hurt.

So, never mind Nebraska returning to its elite 1990s form. How about its mid-to-late 1980s form as a first step?

Even that is easier said than done.

Nebraska enjoyed advantages in the 1980s that are either gone entirely or diminished significantly. A few stand out in former Husker secondary coach George Darlington's mind. We're talking about elements that are largely self-evident but nonetheless worth pointing out, as reminders as much as anything.

For one, Nebraska no longer has one of the nation's top-five marquee televised games each season. The big-picture significance of the Nebraska-Oklahoma rivalry should never be underestimated.

"Any youngster in the United States who was into football knew about Nebraska vs. Oklahoma," says Darlington, who coached at Nebraska from 1973 to 2002, still attends practices, and stays in tune with the college game. "Even if kids couldn't find the states of Nebraska and Oklahoma on a map, they knew about the teams.

"We no longer have that. And that affects recruiting to some extent."
