  1. :yeah

"Magic Number" (our wins plus opponent's losses) is three. As we hold the tie-breakers against Michigan and Northwestern and can get it on Iowa, we're in good shape.

    3 Wins and we're in.

2 wins and a Michigan Loss (they have Ohio St. left) and we're in.

Worse than that and Huskerboard will spontaneously combust.

  2. Also Jean-Baptiste actually plays with pretty good technique, just hasn't been great at timing the arrival of the ball. He'll get better though...think he'll be a stud DB next year given his technique and height

He has done almost everything perfect this year...except catch the ball. He has everything to be an amazing coverage guy.

I think his problem on the long TD catch was he had too much WR in him. He was gauging the ball to catch it and run rather than knock it away.

  3. After today, and Wisky and UCLA and Michicken, OSU etc...... I have no idea what it will look like Saturday. I simply want a solid four quarters. I expect it to be a dog fight as that really seems to be our norm this year. At least it is at home.

I'd settle for 2-2.5 solid quarters. Baby steps.

  4. While we're talking about Penn State...

As far as going to the game. I haven't been all year, and I've been dying to go. I can't really find any tickets. What would the probability be of me finding tickets if I just game to Lincoln next Saturday and walked around the stadium checking what people have?

I would say about 100%. Always tickets available around the stadium.

  5. Would really like to see Alabama lose and KState, Oregon and possibly even ... **cough** ... Notre Dame ... **cough** win out just to listen to the "experts" complain the rest of the season about how a one-loss SEC team should be in the national championship over any of those undefeated teams.

Not quite such a big deal now since a four-team playoff is already in the works but it would still make me laugh.

  6. Ohio State showed everyone that when you get pressure on McGloin, he isn't the coveted "Tom Brady" that ESPN makes him out to be. I expect Bo and JP to bring a lot blitzes against Penn St. to rattle McGloin. Plus with it being a home game, its gonna be even more difficult for Penn St. to win.

You might think, well Penn St. is 3 - 1 on the road. Yes, but look who they played against on the road. Virgina, Illinois, Iowa, and Purdue. Nebraska is gonna be the toughest road game this year for Penn St. Nebraska hasn't lost a home game since Northwestern last year. I like out odds to come out on top against Penn St. It may be ugly, but i see win.

I would tend to hope so as well but I thought we'd see more of that today than we did.

  7. I've only watched pieces of a couple games. They obviously got off to a pretty bad start but are playing better now. They seem to have benefited from somewhat of an easy schedule. Their best win is probably Northwestern and they needed 22 fourth-quarter points to do that (sounds familiar). Lost to Ohio St. Don't have Michigan or MSU on the schedule and haven't played Wisconsin yet.

Pretty good defense, not very good offense. As I said last week and posted earlier today, I think our last five games keep getting a little easier. Wasn't sure we could get Michigan but that worked out. Thought MSU was the toughest of the last four. PSU is probably the toughest of the last three. Hopefully being back home will help get us over the top.

  8. The facts are we have more penalties than our opponents, that comes from coaching, either the technique you teach, the inability to adjust to the officiating, or you let them get away with it in practice. either way it's a coaching issue. We are on our third db coach in 5 yrs. but that's another issue.

Explain how Stafford's late hit out of bounds comes from coaching.

  9. As for the call, as it happened I thought Bell's arm got held. On the slow-mo replay it appeared that he might have been in good position. It's a very tough call to make but with that much contact it's almost always going to draw a flag on the defense.

  10. The PI in the end zone toward the end of the game

Yes, it was PI. He tried to box out Bell. Even if he did have his head turned to see the ball (which he did) that's PI. Much more than any of the 3 against us.

I'll have to disagree on this. Having your off hand wrapped around a guy's waist before the ball gets there is clearly PI. I honestly think there might be a problem with the technique they're teaching the DBs. Having your head turn towards the ball and reaching for the ball, not trying to hold the guy's hands down is a very, very iffy call. I thought it was a terrible call, but personally was okay with it not because I'm a Husker fan, but because it was countered the completely BS late hit penalty on Stafford. That gave MSU an additional 4 points. Even without the PI call that went our way if it wasn't for that call, we would have been winning the game anyway.

You're SUPPOSED to have your off hand wrapped so that way if the receiver catches the ball, the DB can still make the tackle. The DB just can't put any kind of force on the receiver when he does it. If he does, then it's PI. The one against Ciante was questionable, but the other 2 IMO were BS calls.

Correct. This is the technique as it's taught. You are supposed to time it better because you can't do it before the ball gets there but one hand tries to knock the ball away while the other makes the tackle.

  11. Let's recap:

    28 points against a defense averaging 15

473 yards against a defense giving up 267

313 yards rushing against a defense giving up 91

Averaged 7.8 yards per rush against a defense giving up 3.0

Still ran the ball 40 times vs. throwing it 36 times despite not having a lead until :05 left in the game

Exactly what part of this production would anyone say is the fault of the OC?

  12. Folks who go rogue in the Prayer thread should drawn and quartered

People have been known to get a vacation from the board for such things.

For going rogue in the prayer or for drawing and quartering people? :confucius

  13. Glad to hear people mention Rex. I've been wondering if Pelini held him back last week so he'd be completely well against the stout Sparty defense. This will be the best defense we see. Tougher than big brother Meatchickens D was last Saturday. Especially considering it's a road game.

I'd love for Rex to be out there but I'm just not sure. I'm afraid he'll be OK for a bit until he gets twisted or cuts hard on the knee and then he'll be out again. He'll keep recovering for a couple weeks then getting hurt again and he'll never really be healthy. I really think we should just rest him and hope he's ready for the bowl game.
