I know it's been talked about but I can't remember the answer: I know we can't copy/paste premium info so I'm guessing we can't reference it either but I thought I'd ask. Is is ok to say "I read on Rivals that ..." without directly quoting or is that taboo as well?

45 Rushes, 34 Passes - 57% Rushing

However, the 4th quarter (when we had the game in hand) was 17-2 rushing meaning the first three quarters were 28 rushes vs. 32 passes. Obviously not having Rex probably mad a difference but 50/50 wouldn't be a bad place to be.

When push comes to shove, we gave up 13 points on defense and only 3 after half. Hopefully things will be fixed.

 

Southern Miss had plenty of miss opportunities. The screen pass that could have gone for a td if it wasnt dropped and their wr's dropped quite a few balls as well.

And we missed a lot of opportunities. Almost had a pick that could have been returned for six. A couple more sacks could have stopped drives earlier and maybe we only give up 175 yds.

"Igetbored216" is not the only one who believes that the play of our D-Line against Southern Miss last Saturday portends bad things to come down the road.

 

I hope I'm wrong but 5 years of coach speak have left me numb. At the end of the day we have still not beaten a team ranked in the top 15 since I don't know when, we continue to lose 3-4 games a year..these are indisputable facts that can't be argued even if you don't like the fact that people point them out.

 

Not all fans fit into the good little box that our peers would like us to, pardon us for being frustrated after another off season of being told how our D-Line is going to be better this year only to come away from game 1 with warning signs and evidence to the contrary.

No chance. Minimum of 4 weeks recovery time according to internet search. Most victims even more. The only hope, knee bruise instead of sprain.

Under Bo Pelini, Nebraska has played 19 true road games. We've won 12 and lost 7. (68% win percentage)

 

Here are the 7 we lost:

2008 At Texas Tech (they finished 11-2)

2008 At Oklahoma (they finished 12-2)

2009 At Virginia Tech (they finished 10-3)

2010 At Texas A&M (they finished 9-4) this one was a robbery.

2010 At Oklahoma (they finished 12-2)

2011 At Wisconsin (they finished 11-3)

2011 At Michigan (they finished 11-2)

 

Other than the A&M game which was a screwjob by a corrupt conference, every team Nebraska has lost to on the road under Pelini won at least 10 games and 4 of the 6 played in a BCS bowl game. (and both Texas Tech and Virgina Tech easily could have).

 

We struggle at times against overmatched teams at home but we don't lose to any team that isn't a 10 win BCS Bowl level team on the road. UCLA isn't anywhere close to a 10 win BCS Bowl quality team.

Interesting info. I didn't realize our losses were quite that "good".

I'm hoping at "worst" we suit him up but only play him if needed. Resting for a couple weeks would be a much better option, IMO.

There was a story on Omaha.com that was posted earlier today that talked about that. Martinez audibled to the route, but since the way the formation was set up Turner couldn't cross the line without it being a penalty. Taariq Allen didn't move just to be certain. Great play that sort of reminded me of the play against Wisky where we went trips to one side, the two outside men ran hard button hooks and the inside guy ran a flag. CBs bit on the hooks leaving the Safety having to travel a long way to make a play.

Pretty impressive by both Martinez and Turner:

The third-down call midway through the first quarter was originally a run, but Southern Mississippi stacked the box and exposed a vulnerability downfield. Martinez saw it, and signaled toward Kenny Bell to go long.

 

Trouble was, the initial design had Turner aligned between Bell and Taariq Allen in a way that he couldn't cross the line of scrimmage before the pass was released. Against the rules. He knew it. So when the ball was snapped, he was statue-still. Allen did the same, too, just in case.

What did Bo have to say about our defense yesterday?

I was going to post in the "What did we learn" thread that I watched the show and learned ... nothing.

Basic coach-speak all the way around. He said several times that we had a lot of things that we needed to improve upon and we're no where near where we need to be. Nothing specific.

I doubt Michigan drops below us - especially from the guy who voted them #1. Oops.

Probably one spot at best.

Couple things here.

 

1. Our HS farm system under Osborne was producing talent specifically tailored to the Nebraska system. We've changed systems so many times over the past decade the HS's have become very diversified.

Good point. We used to be one of only three or four major programs running our style of offense and we were obviously having the most success with it. After switching to the WCO, we were competing against almost everyone for the same athletes.

We had 10 receivers catch the ball. As much as i would salivate to see Jordan play this year, it isn't going to happen. Kenny Bell and Enunwa are locks, and Jamal was electric and should have 5 touches a game at least. Our tide ends have great hands, and our back up WR's at all positions are just fine. I love the kid and know he will be great, but with what i saw on saturday, no reason to pull it.

Are we recruiting receivers from Alabama to join our RB from there?
