This is just a boring, blanket statement.  You giving no resolution to fixing anything.  There is nothing amazing to what you supposedly feel.

If you knew when and how I became a husker fan you wouldn’t say that. It is definitely amazing.
You’re basically arguing that playing Illinois, Purdue and Minnesota far worse than we played Oklahoma, Michigan, and Michigan state is ok and a sign of progress because the first three have a combined 14-11 record.
if it’s ok to lose to halfway decent teams, why even try? Why recruit and prepare? Why compete?
what kind of opponent in division 1 would you consider it unacceptable to lose to?

Say Frost is retained, yet TA forces his hand and he has to make staff changes... who needs to be shown the door?

    • Mario Verduzco
    • Greg Austin
    • Ryan Held
    • Zach Duval

We also obviously need a special teams coach. With Orgeron leaving LSU, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Jake Peetz, Corey Raymond, & Mickey Joseph on our staff. All three Huskers; all three coaching for LSU instead of us. Unacceptable. This is the perfect time to snag all three.

Only way Scott frost should come back is if  he agrees to step down to become offensive coordinator.
he just doesn’t have the correct skill set required to succeed at this level. Either that or he has seen and knows what it takes, but refuses to do that because he thinks his way is still ok.

When you decide what terrible football is, look at teams getting a beat down every week.  Games over by half time.  That is not us, and we are not a terrible football team.

that's called having a terrible defense. that's not quite the same as having a terrible team.

its amazing to me how nebraska fans could ever justify being at the bottom of a conference 5 years in a row because other teams are supposedly playing better.

    Minnesota is 6-2.

Lost to Ohio State and Bowling Green.  They have 2-3 wins left on the table.

Purdue is 5-3.  On the verge of playing a bowl game.  They beat Nebraska, and also Iowa 24-7.

It's not the name or the history.

Maybe credit these teams being good at football?

When you lose to every P5 team you play, regardless of how close you play them, it's called being terrible at football.

Arkansas and south carolina aren't getting credit for being doormats in a tough SEC.

My prediction, if we beat Northwestern in Dublin, the sellout streak will survive. If we lose to Northwestern and get pasted by Oklahoma the sellout streak dies and Frost better go 8-4 or better or he gone.

the sellout streak is DOA if we go to northwestern with frost.

Yup anyone paying attention with any kind of rational thought coming into the season knew there was a real chance that we could be a vastly improved team this year and still end up with a worse record.

Doesn't matter. if we were truly improved we would have better showings against illinois, minnesota, and purdue. lets stop the straw clutching. same reasons we weren't competitive and couldn't close out games in year 1 and 2 are the same reasons in year 4.

I am glad that I am not Trev right now (well......)

    Scenario 1:

almost 100% of people agree that the path that got us in this position is the coaching carousel that has happened over the past decade +.  Furthermore, many people will or did say that a bonus of hiring SF is the fact that he would get a "longer leash" if things aren't going well, thus, ending the vicious cycle of changing coaches and schemes.  Well, the same fans that were saying this are falling victim to their own impatience, thinking that the solution is going right back to the "root of the problem".  Furthermore, after post-Bo, the previous guys have failed, why is it a guarantee the answer is a new guy?

    Scenario 2:

Trev give SF another year, the fan base will be completely divided and we may be stuck just treading water for the sake of "giving him a longer leash".  Will SF have the guts to replace AM (for those who believe he is the problem), and basically start the make or break hot seat year with a brand new signal caller?  If he doesn't make changes, it is difficult to think we will see any improvement.  If he makes changes with the staff, it will be extremely difficult for SF to bring great coaches on board.  I can't see any coach worth his salt, possibly giving up a gig to come to Lincoln on a 1 year trial basis, knowing good an well if the record isn't good, the staff will be fired.

I am not stating which scenario I am supporting, not because I am afraid of debate, but truly because I am not sure which is the lesser of two evils at this point.

if Trev brings frost back, he can say byebye to the sellout streak.

At this point, i really don''t think he can have both for next year, unless he convinces ohio State, Iowa, and Wisconsin to forfeit their games.

Frost bringing in a new QB is the only scenario I believe should allow him to try it one more year.

The Athletic Department will need to move fast because picking up a kid and then firing the coach would be pretty awful.  I highly doubt they would allow that to happen.

It is interesting though that even the LSU boards know we need a QB.

if that's what it takes for frost to come back, and TA signs off on that, then UNL Athletics is in trouble.

I think we’ve reached the point where we aren’t likely getting a proven power 5 guy. It’s going to have to be an coordinator or you’re taking an up and coming coach from a lower level. Here’s another concern.. Although I have confidence in Trev as an AD I really don’t think he had any plans of firing Frost this year. He said Frost wasn’t coaching for his job because he thought the way we were playing surely we’d find a way to win at 2 of our last 5 games and give Frost a pass and a chance with an easier schedule. I bet he’s thinking Oh s#!t right about now that 0-5 down the stretch is a realistic possibility. He’s having to completely change gears based on how things have transpired the last few weeks. Now must get a short list together quick and start gauging if any of them have interest before coaches start getting plucked away.

How do you know we can’t get a power 5 guy?

I appreciate your willingness to go there.  The correct answer however is that Frost is either the worst coach in the Big Ten or second worst depending on your thoughts about Locksley at Maryland.

Given that frost has way more talent than Maryland to work with, in a worse division, I’d say he’s the worst.

As far as unpopular hot takes go, I think frost is probably the best/smartest play designer. For those who might get this analogy, frost is a genius level football engineer, where being a head coach means being a football foreman, of sorts.

I'm a blast.  I don't complain about a bunch of stuff that's out of my control.  Losing sucks, get over it.  Is this a better team than anything Mike Riley ever fielded?  Debatable, but I'd but the 2021 team up against the 2016 team any day.

We have a long LONG way to go for excellence.  And rotating coaches is the answer.  He gets a 5th year, that's just how it is.

you sound miserable, by your own definition.

Be miserable if that gets your jollies.  He's going nowhere so you'll have plenty of opportunity.  I'm not happy about the year either, really disappointed actually.

A bunch of faceless people crying on a message board, yeah.....gonna change the world!

so... calling out incompetence and asking for excellence is now being miserable?

lol you must be fun to work with.

The justification is thst the alternative is to be a whiny a$$ for thr next calendar year.  I've done that before, it's not fun.  I'd rather focus on what I've like thus far this year.  Still feel way better about the team than I have in years.

well, self-deception is far worse than being whiny. hopefully you at least admit that to yourself.

Also hadn't had to play 8 straight games with no break and 3 close losses to top 25 teams.  Team was drained, mentally and physically.  You could see it.

Yes, that's true.  I'm optimistic that changes for the better in year 5.

As you should be. But there is no reason or justification for optimism whatsoever. at least not with any of the things that the Head coach is directly responsible for.

if he could not find it in himself and his program to make sure he showed up ready and motivated for a poor Minnesota team that has given them heaps of bulletin board material, and has destroyed them 2 years in a row, then he probably just doesn't have the necessary skills to do so.

He will, and it is.  And it's also based off of reality.  We fire him now (unless he manages an 0-4 skid to end the year) and any potential candidates are going to scoff at the idea of coming here.  If he can't piece it together in the W column next year, then yeah it will be a hell of a lot more understandable to potential candidates.

Firing for the sake of firing because we're miffed about all the losses ignores that this team actually is capable of winning.  But if he can't next season, he's probably done.

lol i'll bet you said this exact same thing last year.

but, let's play along. if it is true that "any potential candidates are going to scoff at the idea of coming here", then what will suddenly make them not scoff if scott frost gets fired next year? potential coaches worth their salt aren't looking at the schedule thinking it's hard or easy. it's the Big Ten. it's always hard.

This is laughable. We're blaming the guy for a safety costing us the game when the defense can't make a stop in the first half and gives up a 56 yard game winning TD. Our kicker can't make a gimme field goal or an extra point and our OL can't get it done in the RedZone. But let's lay it all on Martinez because he either gets sacked for a safety or throws it away for a safety.

the argument isn't that it's Martinez' fault we lost. the argument is that when he gets into a position lead a game-sealing or game-tying drive, regardless of how well or poorly he has played all game, he chokes. at this point, its reality. it's why nebraska is 5-17 in one score games. can the team do better on defense, OL, and ST? of course. but the point is that when Martinez is put in those positions against any defense with a pulse, he crashes and burns. all by himself. regardless of the playcalling.
