Hello. I am not an every day poster but every once in a while like to voice my opinion. I used to post on huskerpedia until it was shut down. As a result I haven't posted anything for a couple weeks, but this week wanted to post and voice my opinion. I didn't want to pay anything to express my opinions so I came here. It will be good to read everyone's husker opinions again and occasionally write my thoughts.
Like I would assume most of you, I was extremely distraught over this game. Bottom line we just did not look very good and it is frustrating especially after hearing about the potential to go to a BCS game if we win out. Of course that won't happen now, and my I just hope our team has enough morals to play good next week and beat our boastful overrated pesky neighbor state and win our first big 10 trophy game. After watching the Michigan game today, I feel we are not getting things done the way I had expected. Obviously husker fans including myself have high expectations. Bo Pelini has won over 70% of his games, yet I was ready to call for the end of his term. Of course this came with the grave realization that this would not happen, unless, the rest of the season spirals downward. I then changed my tune to simply hoping perhaps some changes are made with assistant coaches, especially in the defensive area, although, I still am not sold on our offensive line (although improvement has been made). That being said, I was curious and took a look at the 2003 season, and noticed it was strikingly similar to our team this year.
In 2003 (the year Solich was fired and Bo Pelini was Defensive Coach) we lost 3 years. I looked further into those 3 losses (all by atleast 17 points) and made an observation that still seems to be true today: we could not and we cannot beat teams with a duel threat Quarterback. In 2003 our losses came to the following teams: Missouri, Texas, and Kansas State. All of these teams had a duel threat Quarterback. Brad Smith, Vince Young, and Ell Roberson all were able to defeat us. This year, our 3 losses this far have also come against duel threat attacks. Russel Wilson at WIsconsin, Dan Persa and Company at Northwestern, and Denard Robinson all got the best of us. This leaves me with some hope for the rest of the year as I do not believe Iowa has a rushing QB. However, It also leaves me with the question, Can Bo Pelini defeat a good team with a duel threat QB? What improvement on defense has been made from year one to now (obviously a big change from cosgrove, but what about after that)?
