  1. We don’t have great WRs yet and Sims seems to be late on reads and just overall not an effective passing QB. Turn this offense into an Iowa offense for the season and pound the rock, eat the clock, and protect the football. Mix in some option run and pass plays, and let Sims and Ervin bruise some tacklers for Johnson or others to slash through. Few back-7 defenders have the size against Sims, they don’t want that in the open field at all. If the defense maintains and somehow develops a pass rusher or two, they could get on track for 6 wins, maybe steal 2 more if things go right.

Looking back I don’t like we lost so many guys on offense. Thompson, Brown, Yant, Allen.  Reading the Dylan Edwards recruiting thread was like we got guys already, no big deal.  Now this kid is likely to ball out as a freshman and score on us this Saturday.

I’ll be patient but we need identity.  We have got to get some workhorse running backs and be a running team first. We are not grabbing the skill guys that wants the ball thrown to them 12x per game and we don’t recruit the level of QB either.to make that happen (while it was right to pursue Raiola that ship has sailed).

    Big OL, TE’s, RB’s, FB,…stockpile on offense.

Didn’t Klatt mentioned that Deion has known Edwards since he was like 4-5?

I've thought for awhile that this will somewhat sort itself out once enough players figure out the grass isn't always greener.  Not sure what it will take to get to that threshold but it seems like it has to be coming.

Does Covid lend a hand to this? Wonder what the breakdown by class / eligibility is.

Yeah, I don't think that's really the case.  Of the top six scorers in the B1G last year, only one had played for a different team that who he played for last year.  And only two of the top eight.

There are a lot of transfers.  But you have to be able to get *some* guys to develop.  If I asked who the most-productive HS player Fred has had here, the answer would be Bryce McGowens.  He mainly came because his brother was here and he was promised a lot of NIL stuff that he didn't get.  And he only stayed one year.  Who would be the second-most productive HS guy Fred has signed?

Did he deserve what he was promised? Should sign documents to ensure one gets what’s promised, or live up to expectations. If that’s how it played out - doesn’t speak well of the coaching - but that dude is gone?

  5. Arguably, poll system is the best way to motivate dominance from start to finish. And it typically pitted the two best teams against each other when B1G or PAC10 wasn’t involved. Will be interesting to see how things change

Not arguing polls vs playoff, but a poll system emphasizes the need to be great from start to finish. Outside of split natties because of Rose Bowl, not many people argue who the national champion should have been. It’s typically only about who got left out (and why they deserved to lose to the eventual champion).

I hope something happens (in)organically to the sport which would create more parity because by the end of the season there are maybe 2-3 teams who have a legit shot at beating the “best team on paper.” Maybe expanding the playoff and consolidating the conferences does it.

This is Harbaugh's last year at UM imo.  He has almost gone the the NFL each of the last 2 years.  So now he'll coach this year, then head off to the Falcons, Cowboys, Seahawks, Titans, etc and then the NCAA will give him some penalties that he will never have to serve.

That would humble a loooootta Seahawks fans. There is not much love there and since Pete and Schneider moved on from Russ and other disgruntled stars from the SB teams, they are making moves to be competitive again.

I get it though, not your main point, but I’d throw up if he is the HC of the ‘Hawks

When Neb joined the B1G I remember thinking that Penn St would’ve been a great team to develop a rivalry with. Traded blows in the early 80’s (If Penn Staters want to talk 94, we’d be happy to talk about the calls in the 82 game) then again in the early 2000’s. It really had all of the ingredients for a series that could develop a rivalry organically, rather than feeling forced. In fact I’d say most of the Neb-PSU matchups since 2011 have been excellent games.

But to be completely honest, whenever I see anything related to Penn State, I can’t help but think of the Sandusky scandal and subsequent student rioting and it makes me sick to my stomach. You seem to be posting here in good faith, and I don’t bring up those things to throw stones or talk sh!t. It’s just the truth. Obviously you had nothing to do with it and obviously bad things happen at all schools. At least once a year I hear a Lawrence Phillips crack from an opposing teams fan. It always amazes me how Neb fans often get the “delusional” label from other B1G fans, albeit for a fraction of what other B1G fanbases are guilty of.

Penn St has rebounded and recovered incredibly well after one of the most horrific sports scandals of all time. In fact I’m rather amazed by it. Would it be a great annual late November college football matchup? Yes. I’m sure it’d deliver many classics. But what went down in 2011 with that school is too indelible for me to get over. I want nothing to do with Penn St.

Unless there’s evidence JoePa witnessed Sandusky abuse children - which has never been reported - then sure, go after him. However, their BoR and others are used him as a scapegoat and penalized the program for absolutely no connection nor on/off field advantage. Go after the authorities, investigators, administrators, etc., but who goes after someone who reported a second hand account to his superiors? Even after the disgusting revelation, who has come out with any accusation of JoePa knowledge of the incidents. PSU BoR used the Sandusky scandal to justify firing JoePa after years of failed attempts to move on from him.

I think it just makes this look worse for the administration.  If you care about the kids and the culture, fire all but the first year assistants or maybe everyone.  To just fire the HC says we want to save face and try to save the team. Pick one.

It also says the administrators are out of touch after public sentiment led to firing Fitz for cause after details emerged. It begs the question of whether there are additional incompetencies from these administrators.

There are several examples over the years of the reputational harm done to head coaches fired for off the field reasons. Fitzgerald is still a pretty young guy for a head coach, so if his attorneys were to seek not only damages related to his current contract but also future earnings he could have made, then that number could exceed 100 million or more.

Is that where the Ryan family donations are shifting to?

  10. Matthews goes #28 overall to the Astros and Anderson goes to the Tigers in the 2nd round. Pretty awesome for those two.

Big jump for Matthews to get selected that early. Pretty yuck about the Astro’s organization, in addition to being a division rival (my mediocre M’s).

Regardless, good luck to the both of them and other Husker draftees.

Only a matter of time before he commits. This is now our TE room:

    NATL. #1 TE | Arik Gilbert (2020)

    NATL. #1 TE | Thomas Fidone (2021)

    NATL. #2 TE | Carter Nelson (2024)

Anyone else question Gilbert’s hands? Two drops during the spring game that were on the money. We just reviewed Leach’s quote about accurate/inaccurate QBs, pass catching TEs dropping easy receptions is nearly the equivalent of inaccurate QBs.

Hopefully he proves me wrong, but kinda soured on him after the spring game.

I need to go back to 1st grade and work on my alphabet.   I swore 'S' was well after 'C', but seeing this list and Julian Sayin at the top has me questioning everything I learned about letters.

Might need the Count’s assistance too

Even with all the praise he still will be a high 3 star qb at the end of the day.  If this showing didn't necessarily help his cause to gain a star then I don't know what will. :dunno

An offer and pursuit from a perennial powerhouse, but they already have their guy.

He said he had actually been talking to UCF before he committed to Nebraska and told him he would take an OV there.  So he was doing what he said he'd do.

He said Rhule told him to visit wherever and make sure he truly wants to be a Husker.

Love it. Don’t sell yourself, instead make them buy from you.

Every running back since Abdullah has been the very definition of dispensable/replaceable.

Yup. While those that have shown promise have issues (Bell and Washington) or injuries and issues (Allen) and left the team.

It could be argued the kid who transferred to NDSU while Bo was HC was jockeyed around with weight and role.
