Let’s see how Trev and Mickey finish out this transition to Rhule, but this should be a smooth change. So much dysfunction going from Bo to Riley and Riley to Frost. All three personalities were drastically opposite of each other, but I’m optimistic that what we’ve seen from Mickey will propel the program in a positive direction for whoever the successor is.
I don’t believe they have a “culture” issue or personality flaw to deal with from the head coach, instead learning how to be a football team and win together.

Palmer is a baller and is going to be a loss, but I believe they’ll be able to replace him - like the last two years (Toure), especially if they retain Mickey.

This is great news.
Lol I loved how pissed off he was over his gunner blowing that punt coverage last night. Let that energy spill over to the team!

The answer to your question (the bold part of the question) will likely reveal itself in today's game. Yep, making a prediction here that I'll be laughed at and mocked for making but... if the game is close (and I expect it to be) at a crucial point a mythical penalty will once again appear. It has happened in every game that could of (should of) been an upset except for well... you guessed it... a blind eye (missed call) or well... that random "I don't see it" penalty. Iowa is the west rep in the championship game (head to head they beat Purdue) and ain't no way the B1G officials will allow a Nebraska victory. This is the most corrupt, politically driven, do anything for the $$$ conference in all of sports and frankly, everyone here knows they don't think Nebraska is a proper fit.
What’s funny is how I’ve heard a couple Iowa fans rather not play in the CCG knowing um/osu will destroy them - they don’t want to witness a pointless blowout lol. -

I agree that it doesn't seem like Meyer wants to come here. His commentary during the second half of whatever that game was, when he talked about how this is a rebuild process and the time it would take, didn't seem like a guy interested in the job. It seemed like a dispassionate outsider describing something not involving him.
I'd believe anything at this point, though. Urban, Deion, Liepold, whatever. They need to do whatever it takes to make this the correct hire.
Urban at $15 million per year for four-ish/five-ish years to reestablish the reputation, then handing it off to a good assistant (like the Ryan Day/Ohio State handoff) would be almost more than we could hope for.
He’s basically describing himself as a cherry picker of low hanging fruit where talent outweighs development.

It'll be interesting for sure. Hoping it's that unifying hire. Not a divided hire. Like the Rhule followers or the Rhule breakers
You don’t want to Rhule against it now

I remember Frost creating some drama when Farnioks brother was demoted so Cam could move to center. Also some grumblings that some guys were treated differently than others. Mo Washington got some passes stat Mills (IIRC) didn't get. I think a lot of the culture issues were Frost's tbh.
Yeah I agree. Transfers are OK when your team is legit and you’re reloading or it’s a turd in the punch bowl. Starters transferring when you’re sub .500 might be a cause for concern

Yes, I agree that there needs depth to be built. I am not saying to boot all of the players. But, I don't get the thoughts that NU won't be able to replace a guy like Palmer or Grant. I think that depth is built by high school recruiting and development and sprinkling in transfers at certain positions. There also needs to be established identity for the entire team (not just offense) and the expectation that everything for the program is geared towards that identity.
Yeah I agree with your points here. I said similar about transfers over the last several seasons. Not saying this to put words in your mouth, but since it’s been brought up, the part I’m focusing on here is finding a coaching staff that isn’t revolving talent like Palmer, JD, Wandale. I’m a believer in letting kids transfer out to bring someone in who wants to be here, but the culture established by the coach needs to limit these instances from reoccurring. I have Frost the benefit of the doubt thinking that guys needed to go, but maybe it was his style that alienated and ushered kids out who really needed a different message to stick around. The Farnioks, Gates, and even some of the guys who decided to leave early last year like Jurgens, Rogers, Daniels and Thomas.Again, not putting these words in your mouth, but that’s what I’m now sitting back wondering what coulda been if we hadn’t experienced all of those kids transferring out…or leaving early.

Why does everyone freak out about guys potentially transferring away from Nebraska? There is no one on this team who isn't replaceable.
I’m there with you to a degree, but gotta build depth though, part of why this team sucks. -

Whipple may be the reason why Frost got fired as well.........the Northwestern game should have been a win if we just run the ball more, Georgia Southern would have been a win if we just ran the ball, and maybe now the Minny game would have been a win if we just ran the ball. Yes I believe Whipple cost this team a chance to go bowling this season, and should have been fired with Frost after the Georgia South game.
Frost did this to himself. GSU would’ve been a win if Chin’s defense wasn’t a mess.- 2

But I thought Mickey was supposed to be a great WR coach?
Rahmir dropping that pass against Illinois took off a TD and lead to CTs injury…

If Mickey ends up being the HC, it means that the decision makers completely botched everything from last year. This isn’t an opinion about Mickey, but how dysfunctional the Athletic Dept and state of the program is overall.
I would root like heck for MJ and hold optimism for him - depending on who he hires.
However, if he ends up the HC then who ever got in the way of preventing Frost from being fired should maybe pony up their money when asked, and stfu about opinions.

If the new staff can go out and recruit right away, then why wait?

So Lane runs the Offense and Fickell runs the Defense. Mickey is the CEO and recruits his balls off.

We have an amazing ability to go away from things that work so we can force things that don't.
And how many times did the1st down Delay Run work? Or any down… -
Some head coaches rip their coordinators in post game interviews and in the week - and take away their duties. A few of these coaches are arguably the consensus home run type of hires we currently would desire.

That's a brutal non-conf schedule no doubt. /s
A 1-6 Pac 12 team followed by a 2-6 Missouri Valley team followed by a 2-5 C-USA team. No matter who the new coach we can't expect to go better than 1-3 at best. It would be even better to cancel CU and replace with an FCS team since a P5 team is probably a mountain too high. Maybe we could get a waver to play 3 FCS teams. Or better yet, just join the Missouri Valley Conference. /s
I never thought I'd see the day when we would cower like little school girls when with a schedule consisting of probably the worst P5 team in the country and 2 bottom feeder FCS teams from in weak conferences.
How does NU play against itself?
your disingenuous attempt is creative. Can only imagine the amount of time you wasted misinterpreting someone’s opinion with baseless assumptions. Good work, kid.
Edit, to add: The SEC is ridiculed, yet doesn’t care and schedules paddy cakes late in the year, which helps them into rivalry and championship week. Cower is your word. Prepare is mine. I believe you and I would agree that “any time, any place” is what it comes down to, but I believe it’s tougher to travel back-to-back, out of the gate to two locations you’ve recently lost in pretty, pretty, preeeetty bad ways.
Wouldn’t hurt to have a paddy cake game to work out the kinks with a new coach. That’s all.

Frost just didn't do a good job at it. He went after RB's....Don't remember him really hitting up Juco to build the lines.
Pretty sure one of his buddies advised him not to. Don’t remember which one - Taylor or Graham? - but one said to not go after JUCO OL as they need the time to develop and gel together.

Played an unsanctioned title game in the middle of a cornfield, scapegoats assistants, and most likely more sexual abuse, drug charges, and felonies than Urban’s tenure at UF.
(On that note - Peterson’s BSU squad ranked up there - if not higher than UF - with criminal convictions in a program. Lotsa athletic 3 star kids with questionable backgrounds.)

*** Matt Rhule Hired as New Husker Head Coach ***

I think basically we have adults in the room again. Riley was one but he was soft and led by incompetent administration. I fully agree with Compton, from the top down (Carter, Trev, Mickey, Rhule) there are adults in the room and continuity for the first time in how long?
edit: added Mickey
