  1. quote = " We are never going to be able to out recruit Ohio St or Michigan just due to their location"

No offense but as long as you have that attitude you're not going to get very far. It's just another excuse. Elite recruiters don't make excuses.

Don't believe our "elite" recruiters have stated this excuse.

However, it is an opinion of one of our posters and a more then fair opinion at this point. If NU were to get back to finishing in the top 10 standings yearly and finishing in the playoffs on a 1 of 3 year basis then i'm guessing the opinions of our posters would be that we can compete with MU and OSU for top recruits.

In January 2016 finishing 3rd/4th is solid - in future years we can hope/expect better !!!

  2. I'm wondering if the next 2 weeks will be the greatest 2-week recruiting stretch NU has seen in a long, long time. With all the potential 2016 recruits as well as many 2017 guys coming this weekend, I'm hoping that, come February 4, we will look back and say this was one of the greatest 2-week recruiting periods for NU.

Needed to bump this thread - because the prediction is coming!!!!

  3. We should start a new thread and call it "ranking the post in the thread about ranking last 4 coaches".

    My vote would be -

    Tie for 1st: post #2 & post #16 ............................................................................. post #1

Steve Wiltfrong or whatever his name is put a CB prediction in for Iowa on Farniok AND Jackson.

Ugh. Ultimate choke job if that ends up happening

    Who?

He is one of the head directors of recruiting on 247. 90% success rate in predictions. He doesn't really just guess. Often uses "sources" with his explanations. Idk I am just becoming a lot more worried about this one.

If we lose Farniok my feeling about this class goes down a lot. ESPECIALLY losing him to Iowa. And ESPECIALLY if Iowa takes Alaric Jackson from us too (which Wiltfong also predicted) ON TOP of the fact that they already took Noah Fant. I know we have some other solid pieces but OT is a position of huge need and losing big recruits to Iowa of all teams would be extremely disappointing.

  5. If you look at the teams ranked higher then 20th - only Arkansas and Tennessee have solid star rankings. I have no idea how many spots the teams above us have to fill, however this class is on pace for 25ish and could finish inside the top 20 if we get all key players. No this doesn't mean we are satisfied with around 20th, however as many have mentioned one step at a time!!!

  6. Still just can't picture him committing here. Keyshawn, sure maybe. This one just seems way too far-fetched. Pretty tough to lure someone from their "childhood dream school" (Stanford) especially when they live in the same state as that "dream school"

Just like some kids can't wait to get out of Nebraska, some kids are excited to go to a place that feels like FOOTBALL ONLY - NU feels that way to some!!!!

  7. Found this really interesting of 247's article on Millers commitment

“It’s a defensive end role where you can have your hand in the dirt,” he said. “It’s a hybrid, outside linebacker-defensive end kind of thing."

To my football knowledge this means he will be the strong side backer in a four three where a linbacker comes up on to the line, usually opposite the tight end or strong side of the opponents line.

The other interesting possibility i read in this is a possible long term move to the 3-4.

But Banker as far as i know has no history with the 3-4.

    What are your guys thoughts?

I mentioned 3 or 4 months ago that some of the comments by recruits and the numbers the staff wanted at lb and dl made it look like the change could happen. It was mentioned that this staff has no history with 3-4, however this staff just moved to a new zip code and change would be easier now.....

  8. LOL, you guys can make jokes all you want, but my per post average rating is higher than any of yours, so apparently there are plenty who agree with my views. Even funnier how 1995 Redux up-votes anyone who remotely sides with anything he says, and tries to rally his buddies all around him for support

Being an SEC guy - my guess is you vote for yourself.....

  9. This does seem odd. Size being an issue with DL maybe Evaluating young HS kids is not something the staff likes to do???? However waiting longer would not be good for building the relationship. Maybe they are communicating with several, but holding off to offer????

  10. It's a process. You can't just snap your fingers and get top recruiting classes to win championships. Higher class's (top 20s) will allow us to win more then "6 games" hopefully.... We then build a base and move up with motivation. Clemson wasn't pulling top 15 recruiting classes 4 years ago.... Yet they built on it and now look great.

You expect instant gratification. There is no manual on any of this... Stop being s negative Nancy and enjoy life.

Man you got him way wrong - he was president of ...... Life is good!!!

  11.

Man what a poor coaching night that was - should be able to beat a team like that by 20+ :sarcasm

Keep it rolling :bigredn: - would love to see a run similar to 2013 (probably not going to happen - however our newcomers are starting to gel !!!

lol, a good night doesn't negate previous games... which was pretty clear poor coaching was to blame.

Things sure look like they are building, but we have seen this numerous times. I won't be counting my chickens before they hatch. We beat MSU last year too.

MSU won 4 games in the NCAA tourney last year before losing in round 5 to Duke.

Funny thing is after posting my comment and reading it again - my first thought was wondering if the next post on this thread would be a vote of confidence for NU or somebody making a comment about how this game doesn't...... after a short pause your tag was the first to come to my mind. Keep blasting the team thou :thumbs

Keep trolling! I didn't blast anyone, nice try! You don't seem to handle other people having a different opinion than you, maybe you should take a break from posting.

But you always fine the bad in the good!

Show me where I said anything bad about this game in this thread, anything. not something objective, but bad.

I will give you credit - you have a way with words

You are good at what you do!!!

  12.

To the casual observer, it sounds logical to go balls to the wall for this guy.

However, in practicality, I can see the hesitation. Sure, a phone call to see if there is any interest may be warranted. But, let me lay this out there.

We are very close to getting Ivy and Miller. These are two guys that the staff has worked hard to build a relationship with and they think they will get.

Now, if we all of a sudden act like we really want this guy instead (and we really have no idea if he is interested) and Ivy and Miller decide feel like they are getting over looked for this guy.....we stand to lose all three.

Again....I'd probably make a phone call and if the guy absolutely jumps up and down like crazy and immediately books a trip to Lincoln to check it out..that's one thing. But, if that's not the reaction....then, keep giving the love to the two guys who you are just about to get commitments from.

I would much rather have the guys we built relationships with. Just curious why we aren't after a DT.

It's either a change to 3-4 or they feel like all the underclassmen will pan out - making us deeper then we look

Yeah, I really don't get why we wouldn't make a push for this dude.

Because he is not coming here and we want to focus our resources on attainable targets?

He visited Texas right before decommitting. And he has visits already lined up to A&M and Tennessee these next 2 weeekends.

K, then why aren't we after an "attainable" DT?

Because a team can only offer so many guys each year - Why can't we trust that the staff knows which holes to fill first

  15. I did not realize this. I'm not even sure how it's possible considering we do not even run an offense, we are still a terrible assist team and only two regulars (White and Morrow) are shooting better than this for the year.

    Good Shooting!!!

So Langdorf developed Armstrong this season? Still throws off his back foot, still makes bad decisions in the passing game, and still won't throw the ball away instead of taking a sack. Sorry I'm not impressed with Langsdorf and don't even get me started on his play calling.

Did you miss the part about where TA basically didn't listen to him most of the year. How can you help someone if they will not listen to you? Just like me trying to help you understand, but you not listening.

So Langs had one year with him and Beck had how many??

Depends on how you want to look at it. Beck was here when TA was a True Freshman and then he was kind of thrown in as a redshirt freshman and then the sophomore year. So the one on one time Beck spent with TA with Martinez still on the team leads me to believe it was about the same amount of time as Langsdorf this year.

wow if this was really the case - we now have an idea why player development under past staff was not top notch. Focusing ONLY on the starters and not preparing the underclassmen seems like a good way to fail in the college game.
