seeing as how this is an internet message board; yeah...thinking out lout is pretty much exactly what I am doing, LoL. Sorry to burst you bubble but that's what a place like this is for.

Tradition is pretty much the only thing we are clinging to at this point, along with a little hope. I agree, most kids probably want to set out on their own away form their parents and make their own way; but The fact of the matter is:

    - we are big 10 bottom feeders in the weaker division

    - we haven't been to a bowl in the last 3 years

--we have only won 2 bowl games since 2010 (IIRC)

    - haven't won a conference championship since 99

    -no division championships since 2012

    -1 winning season since 2015

-we are basically a dumpster fire on all 3 sides of the ball at any given time

    - play calling is suspect at best on offense (especially this year)

-our coach came in with tons of hype (well deserved) and bit c$%ky and has had his A$* handed to him at every turn and blames player buy in as the root cause of loosing.

Now, you look at all that as a top level or decent recruit and think as bad as things have been, you should be able to get some early playing time and be apart of rebuilding a traditional blue blood program. When you cant play your way onto the field because coach seems determined to play another guy come hell or high water, for whatever reason....one may start looking at other options. For the record, I never said this would or will happen, I am hoping it doesn't...so just chill. I was only posting recent events connected to a potentially great player on our team.

Most husker fans unfortunately live in the past and still see us a Blue chip program when we are just not at this point. Sorry to be the turd in the punch bowl, but these are the cold hard facts. Things will eventually get better, and I know Scott is our guy, but it still looks like we have a long way to go....just sayin.

    GBR!

Well you left out about as many facts as you included and they seem to be the positive ones.  So don't be sorry for being the turd in the punch bowl - just continue to know that you are.

30th in the nation vs 66th in the nation is hardly a wash.  Banker wasn't good by any stretch of the imagination but Chinander is significantly worse.

I didn't know they had rankings for DC's or are you just ranking the staff strictly on their players results? If so are we also going back to the theory that the world is flat?

I mean, it would be nice.  I, like most people, enjoy human contact.  The warmth, the comfort, sometimes just the feeling of safety is nice.

I am trying to think of the last time my hand was held in a gentle way, in a compassionate and caring way, it has been a log time, longer than I had hoped.  I miss it.

LOL - ok you win with this post :)

You are trying really hard to accomplish very little.

Here is my "story" as you put it:  No coach is looking forward to hanging out with a high school senior all day when they could be doing anything else at all.  It is not the first thing that they would pick.

    Your "story" is???

make up your mind is it - they would rather do "anything else" or "it is not the first thing they would pick"  what about second, third, or fourth?

point is some would love to sit in bed and drink hot cocca all day and then finish off with a night cap of ice cream.  SF and company don't mind hitting the outdoors with the recruits.

Woodyard is  the fastest Husker player in probably decades. You would think he could find the field in some form. Even if they know what's coming, no one can run with him.

so you think that their fastest DB given a 7 yard head start couldn't stay with woodyard.  If he is that fast he should have stuck with track and made a living.

I haven't ever claimed to know more than the coaches, I'm positive they know better than anyone, but it's odd to me that the guys on the field who haven't been performing aren't ever really replaced, no one else is given their shots when our starters can't do anything game after game...if they're given a shot and they're worse..so be it, put the first guy who already wasn't doing anything back in..what do you have to lose (nothing). Your last sentence also sounds like what we did all year already...so there's that.

That is why they have practices and then have game like scrimmages so that everybody is on the same page of where they stand - with the exception of the fans

You know these coaches can't wait for these kids to sign so that they don't have to pretend like they are excited to do this s#!t when they could be doing ANYTHING ELSE.

Maybe, but I don't think so.

If you really think that Scott was like "Holy cow, I can't wait to go out hunting/fishing with a 18 year old kid that I hardly know instead of hanging out at home with my family and friends" well...I don't know what to tell you.

So we went from saying that they don't have to "pretend" and they would rather do "ANYTHING ELSE" to it having to be "Holy cow i can't wait to go...." - how convenient for your story

Ok, i get that....so why not use him on special teams, why not use him as a KR OR PR ..why not use him as a jet sweep guy... why not pass to him on our beloved swing passes? None of those require blocking. Would we really refuse to use a guy with speed in positions to allow him to try to be a game changer just cuz he can't block?

in your last two post you act like you went to practice and saw something better then was on the field during game day.  There's a good chance the staff watched him during hundreds of practice hours and realized that he wasn't as good as the guy on the field.  Also you bring a guy in and run a single group of plays to him and the defense learns quickly what is going on.

I get they like fishing/hunting...but don't you think, given the choice, that they would rather be doing it with their friends, not some HS kid and his family.

    You know what I mean.

Considering the high percentage of recruits that visit lincoln or sign with the huskers referring to the atmosphere being so family like - i think you have missed the boat on this one.

  10. Sad to see him go.  Guessing there will be 2 more stories like this over the next several months - which is good for both sides.
The guys coming in next year will be a 2 steps above the guys leaving and 1 step above a few that will stay and try to improve. Next year our top 6 will be pretty solid.

Two leading sack guys in the Davis Bros, Daniels, L Jax....We have "potential", but nothing proven.

You don't have proven replacements unless you are playing in the 90's and those days are over with the exception of the top 5 teams in the country and even then you only get about 5 games a year where they can get extended minutes.

We have 3 DL that will fit our scheme way better then DDD in DT/GJ/BS and one of the other young guys may surprise us at D-end. D. Williams will be way more physical then L Jax.  most of the sacks by our line this year were based on coverage sacks - next year we will find somebody that can actually do it with talent.

No way our defense takes a step back next year.

Cincinnati and South Dakota State are competitors, and in a way more stable situation than we are. Those two teams play to win every game. As of today, us beating either of these teams would be considered an upset. Also, you never know how Illinois or Northwestern will look from year to year. It could be a walk in the park or dog fight.

The last 5 games are scary. It’s like going through a gauntlet of terror. I see 4-8 next year, at best another 5-7.

I see us winning all of the first seven with the exception of one that we should have.  We will find out that mid season one of our last games will not be as tough as advertised and then we steal a second win from one of the tough ones.

Great analysis! I have studied this schedule for awhile and I think you nailed it.  It worries me and I am not confident on 6 wins, but am hopeful.  That is why we so drastically needed to get 6 this year with what appeared to be easiest schedule in near future. With the fragile state of the fans, I shutter to think what may happen if we fail to make a bowl next year, heading into another brutal 2021.

My son attends SDSU and although they dropped a game late, they are legit and handed the game away against NDSU. Will be a test for sure.

Well at least they are good at handing away games - NU should have a victory there

I honestly think that based on the previous 2 years and replacing a lot of guys on the defensive side, we could be looking at a 3-9 season unless somethings drastically improve.  If we are not bowl eligible after the Rutgers game......Of course this can all change with the best off season we've ever had, we have really come together as a team, 100% buy in, killing it the weight room, solid leaders have emerged  etc.....

Like you said about SDSU, they played Minnie tough. They played us tough when Bo was the coach.....I see Rutgers as a guaranteed win.  When seem to have Illinois number. Western Michigan (with our current team) is no push over......Through in Purdue as the first game and NW at their house....Away games at OSU, Iowa and Wisky....Damn.  That's a tough schedule.

Who are we loosing on D that doesn't have an equal replacement next year?
