  1.

    Dear Husker Family,

    Good morning.

I want to express my sincere appreciation to every Husker fan who has come to Memorial Stadium this season to cheer on the Big Red; who has traveled hundreds or thousands of miles to proudly wear the red and white in visiting stadiums; and who has passionately supported our student-athletes, our head coach, our assistant coaches and staff. Your support and patience as Mike Riley rebuilds our storied program one brick at a time mean the world to our young men, our staff and our university.

While many are understandably disappointed in the current record of the football team and the heartbreakingly close losses we have suffered, I am confident the future is bright because I see it in the eyes of our players, coaches and staff and I am impressed by what I know is going on behind the scenes. Our coaches are developing our student-athletes and, though the consistent victories are not there yet, I am confident they will come. I have witnessed how our young men battle every day in practice and fight to the finish on game days in the face of great adversity. Football can be a humbling game of inches and seconds and our players have laid everything on the line while making no excuses. The prospective student-athletes looking to make Nebraska home possess athletic talent, academic potential, and high character making for a bright future. Coach Riley has a vision and a plan and is committed to providing the Husker faithful with a sustained winner which will compete annually for championships.

As I have said many times, it is an honor and privilege to represent Nebraska, and I am humbled and care deeply about the men and women I have a chance to work with every day here. The incredible amount of hours they put in and the sacrifices they all make to represent Nebraska are truly remarkable. In two decades as a student-athlete and athletics administrator, I have had the opportunity to learn and work alongside some incredible people at five different institutions. What the best administrators and coaches have in common is a consistent commitment to teaching young minds to do things the right way and to instill a values system that emphasizes hard work, discipline, loyalty, teamwork, compassion and excellence. Those principles coupled with a positive attitude generally result in championships.

Your continued support is what makes Nebraska special and together, we will do great things. Thank you again for your incredible passion and support. We look forward to another home sellout and an electric environment on Saturday as we come together to cheer on our team against Michigan State.

Have a great week and Go Big Red!

    Shawn Eichorst

  2. Stadium half full for Iowa game. Half of the fans would rather eat turkey than watch one.

Everything is eerily similar to the Callahan era. The mistakes, the losses, the high pass attempts, lack of a running game. The loss today I consider a blowout even though we managed to get garbage points late in the game very similar to '07 USC game where we lost 49-31 but everyone saw how bad Nebraska got beat and the score didn't indicate that at all. We're in for a wild one, that's for sure. We have fired two guys in the past 12 years who both finished 9-3 and traded it for a guy and his staff for a possible 3-9 outcome... It's a nightmare.

    Perlman at the helm. Check.

Henchman brought in to fire 9 win coach. Check.

    Mind boggling coaching search. Check.

Hired a coach with a lifetime .500 record. Check.

Inept buddy hire to run the defense. Check.

Forcing an NFL system on players not built for it. Check.

Starting a promising dual threat QB who was built for the prior offense and turning him into a scapegoat. Check.

With starting QB out, throw a backup to the wolves. Check.

Can't get a come from behind win (Callahan 0-17, Riley 0-5 when trailing at half). Check.

Lots of long time historic streaks broken. Check.

    Did I miss anything?

I am sure you missed about 1,000 things. Pearlman is the one constant on this. This guy is lower than a child molester imho

  3.

The site has Norm Chow at #60. And Chow was just canned from Hawaii today.

    Haha! End thread.

He was #3 earlier today before being fired.

You're looking at the expanded rating list. I'm not sure why he is still showing up at #60 on there, but he was indeed #3 earlier today before being removed from the top 30 list altogether after his firing (the guys at the top of the page with the accompanying photos). As a result everyone but Riley and Richt moved up on the list, and Kingsbury earned a spot in the top 30.

CYeah he was #3 today I saw that

  4.

    Did you not see this

$8.67 million for Riley, about $6.5 million for the assistant coaches

    http://journalstar.c...98ff7712e8.html

Yeah, it's financial irresponsibility. The AD didn't want to do multi year contracts for assistants in the past, but now this current group all get them, outside of probably the best one of the lot, Trent Bray!

More proof that this is being done intentionally. I think I am giving up on this team.

  5.

If our record was reversed, 5-3, the same people would be bitching about the same things!

I agree. The fan BASE will always be there.

The johnny come lately, thirty-something, instant gratification fans are NOT the fan BASE

"instant gratification fans are NOT the fan BASE"

Says the guy on the internet telling the rest of the FAN BASE, who are also on the Internet.

No but they are loosing people like me. I live in a heavy Iowa Hawkeye fan base territory. You think it is fun like that. I have completely lost faith in the administration at Nebraska. It's so bad its loosing a lot of us as fans. There are parts of this fan base that are going to begin to erode.

  6. A little confusing that they would fire Riley, but keep Eichorst. Considering how Eichorst's search went last time, how can they trust him to make another good decision? I guess we'll see if this rumor has legs next week. Barring a scenario where we enter an alternate universe, a Michigan St. team coming off a bye week with Connor Cook should be able to hang 50 on us easy.

Yeah and its even more confusing on why they would fire him midseason when Eichorst refuses to fire anyone midseason. I'm thinking we got a troll.

  7.

I am a lifetime Husker fan that hasnt missed a game since I was a small child in the 70s. In every game, except Texas Tech

and Kansas under Callahan, I believed we were going to win until the last second. I always believe

they are going to win. I am the true definition of a Husker fan.

That said, this year has been heartbreaking for me in many ways. First, the hire of Riley wasnt on my radar. I had dreams of

big name coaches and those were crushed when he was hired. I was aware of Riley and didnt hate the hire, I just thought they

could do better. But I gave him a chance and believed that he would get us a respectable season.

I had predictions of 11-1 or 10-2 at the beginning of the season. Looking at our conference I didnt see a way we would lose 3

or more games. I felt good about our season and coaching staff.

BYU was hard, but I chalked it up to being a first game. Miami was difficult to watch, but we had heart and came back. Illinois was

Big 10 road game. Wisconsin, Northwestern were possible loses at the beginning of the season. I had excuses for all of the loses

and then today happened. Nothing about Purdue explained away the loss. Sure we didnt have Tommy, but Purdue is a really bad team.

During the Purdue game I realized that I was becoming indifferent. As baffling as it was, I dont think I was surprised that we lost to

Purdue. I no longer had faith in this team. I mean I went through the motions believing we were going to come back: With 30 seconds we

just needed a couple onside kicks and TDs to win. But something changed and I realized that this is how I felt watching Callahan's

    worst games.

I will still support the team and hope we will get to 6-6, but I dont believe that we will. That is the difference in my fandom. I

no longer believe that we will win. Maybe that is what he is talking about when he says they risk losing the fan base.

The good thing is that once they start winning again I will go back to believing they will win every game. Hopefully that will start with Michigan State.

I'm with you man, fans need to help each other out during these times. Any aggression that a husker fan has should be saved for Eichorst or his vehicle.

  8. ok its the next day now and he still hasn't been fired. Do these board members not see whats going on?? Pederson fire a 9-4 guy. Hire a west coast guy miss 2 bowl games. Eichorst fire a 9-4 guy. Hire west coast guy miss a bowl game. We've missed 3 bowl games in the last 50 years. Guess what offense we had. If they don't fire him right now Pederson should recieve an apology

I wish I could read the mind of new Nebraska President Hank Bounds. I talked to him briefly in August at a Husker football scrimmage. It became immediately clear he knows the game. He has a reputation for holding people accountable. Those traits may not bode well for Husker athletic director Shawn Eichorst.

Interesting article here by Sip. He hints that the only fan of Eichorst in the administration is Perlman, who is leaving in 2016. It appears we could potentially see another offseason of change.

I am not sure how this could be classified as a "tough" decision. More like an obvious decision.

  10.

Its been 6 hrs since the end of the game and Eichorst has not been fired yet. WTF is going on. This is unacceptable to wait this long. This should have been announced within an hour of the end of the game. We need to hold the administration accountable

You know that that's not going to happen. Those things usually don't happen the day of. Golden was fired the Sunday following Miami's 58-0 loss against Clemson. Holding Eichorst accountable can occur days after the game, too.

Eichorst gave Golden an extention, he needs to be let go without question. better be by Monday.

    Or what?

Or Eichorst will still be the AD
