  1. I'm not understanding the hate for Kaz...Our Dline has played better this year then they have in some time. We led the B1G in sacks and TFLs and it all starts up front. I agree with getting rid of Els and Cotton, maybe even Pap but not Kaz.

I'd agree with this as well. Kaz has a proven record, in the Big 10 nonetheless, producing top D lines and NFL talent. Our D line play the past few years after Suh has been atrocious at times. Gotta admit, the D line this year may have been my favorite group to watch from a growth and overall results perspective as a whole. I see no reason why he should go.

  2. Is strength and conditioning really a weakness for us? Let's not forget, the guy's been with us for 5+ years. I can't really recall past instances where we've called for his head like we have this year. I find it hard to believe its our strength and conditioning program that lead to all of the injuries we've experienced this year rather than pure old bad luck.

Being out-sized and overmatched at times on the line is not a result of Dobson, it's a result of recruiting players who are smaller than the competition.

  3. I hate to say it, if we want to continue with Beck and his passing attack, we need to find a QB who can pass. TA looks rough. I know he is young, BUT as a QB he should be able to throw a good ball. RKIII, same thing. They both look rough as passers. I would love to see us become smash mouth and pass when needed. Our recivers as the season progressed, seemed to regress as well. I was watching football Sun and one of the announcers said a receiver has to make the "routine" all the time and bring in a circus catch or two in order for teams to win. We are lacking in the routine........QB play would help

I would love to see bringing on a dedicated QB coach.

    This

I would move Barnstache to the office, give Fisher the TE's, and bring-in a qb-coach/co-OC or ST's. I wouldn't shed any tears if Beck was gone but I think his O would click pretty consistently if we upgraded qb play.

On D move Els out, put Paps on LB's/ST's or co-DC, and offer top dollar for a big-time DC. My first choice would be to make another run at Zook, dude can recruit.

Any chance Eichorst and Perlman give Bo a few extra bucks to spend on his staff or is that out of the question? Trying to get a name would most likely require some extra $ from what we're dropping now. Has this been rumored at all or is this out of the question?

  4. Mods- Feel free to delete this topic when answered. I live out in the Bay Area, CA, safe to say I don't have local access to Husker nation outside of this board. What are all of your recommendations in terms of a legit radio station to listen to at work to get some Husker analysis in the next few weeks? Would love to find a station to listen to online at work that gives a good spin on husker nation given the past few weeks and also recruiting/bowl game analysis. I would imagine this would exist and would also imagine theirs a few stations that aren't worth listening to. Also, is their a particular show, host, time to listen compared to others?

    Input is much appreciated, thanks!!

  5. Whoever may win the starting job, I hope Pelini and staff gives garbage time minutes to 2nd and 3rd string when the season starts. I feel like one of the biggest regrets of the staff and martinez this past year is that we did not know what we had behind the guy because we never really threw in the back up for in game experience. If stanton or Armstrong is the guy then so be it, but we should avoid a situation like this past year where we don't quite know what we have in the back up... then again, if Stanton wins it I guess we have a good idea as to what TA can bring to the table...

love arguing with myself, think the past few weeks in conjunction with the booze has made me see both sides of the fence to every issue on this board haha

  6.

This simply is not true... Check recruiting profiles my man, Garrison has played a roll as well. And your statement is kind of pointless, who else is going to recruit OL?? The WR coach? The LB coach? Special teams? Isn't it kind of obvious our OL would be recruited by the line coach?

    It simply is true...PERIOD.

Cotton was the O-Line coach until last year. We have 0 true freshman playing on the offensive line. All the recruits had to be signed off by him....we didn't recruit them unless he gave the OK because he was the HEAD OLINE COACH.

Any recruit we bring in from this year onward is a Garrison recruit.

But hey, don't let facts get in your way, keep saying that Cotton didn't bring these boys in.

When did I say he did not bring these guys in? I specifically said Garrison has played a role as well, not to mention was the lead guy for our top OL recruit in the upcoming class. This thread is titled, Bo is staying, now what... What's your opinion on this, to throw out an idea on potential change or defend a guy who's had an up and down performance since he's been here. I simply said, I don't understand the redundancy and the fact that BECK is the 2nd highest paid assistant in the Big 10... couldn't those $$$ be better spent elsewhere?

You did not respond to my initial statement of getting rid of both of these guys and going after an established O coordinator which was pretty much the subject of my post

  7. To follow up on my link above, I'm perplexed as to how Cotton is still part of this staff outside of the fact that we all know Bo is very loyal to his colleagues... The guy seems to dabble in a little bit of everything yet the results from his work here do not justify his position as a staff member and his salary. I've always expressed my dissatisfaction with Beck's play calling, how he is the 2nd highest paid assistant in the Big 10 is beyond me. I would be in support of both Cotton and Beck getting the cut and using those funds to get an offensive coordinator who has a track record.

The fact that a guy like Narduzzi, who is mentioned on every "hot coaching candidate" this offseason, is getting paid less than Beck on base salary alone speaks volumes to the fact that we can bring in a stud who can add value and it wouldn't necessarily require breaking the bank

Because every single linemen we have was a Cotton recruit. The reason the line held up? Barney Cotton coached each and every one of them and was in on every decision made from who to play and where to play them....

  9. Question for any one who might know this as I do not have the answer. Is the strength and conditioning coach actually under Bo's discretion? I've done a few different searches and can only seem to find the salary/listing of positional coaches. Is it even realistic to expect Bo to make a change in this area or is this something that Eichorst and the big shots have to make? Here's a link from the Detroit Free Press that breaks down by every school in the Big 10 which I'm basing this off of.

  10. How much difference does a coach make? Auburn was WINLESS in conference play last year. Winless. Now they are #4 in the country and jusy beat the #1 team in the country who is 60-0 , now 60-1 since 2008 when rushing for 140+ yards. A good coach can be the catalyst for a program, like we've seen with Auburn.

True, but don't forget that the majority of players who are contributing this year was the recruiting class from their Title run with Cam. As much as Chizik was a complete joke of a coach, the dude could recruit top talent and Malzahn knows how to utilize it.

  11. I have no idea what complicated web of sales keeps the sellout streak alive today. Is there actually a third party that would know if games weren't sold out? I mean, the U could continue to say they're sold out of tickets. They're our only source of information, from what I understand. Not saying they'd be deceitful, but I am saying that it's hard to know if they're sold out. really.

If actual attendance starts to drop to some level where it matters, they'll do something. You have to hit them where it hurts if you want to have an impact.

From what I understand, and this is from talks with a family member who worked for the athletic department as a summer intern and the dreaded alumni outreach cold call job haha, the administration pretty much knows by June which games are sold out and which ones still have a few left.

  12. I'm completely shocked at the AD's statement of support for Pelini. At least make a statement indicating his demeanor and behavior is not acceptable. Perhaps they are waiting til after the bowl game, but if this is the case, that is a huge mistake. There is no benefit in waiting. And if the plan is to keep Bo long-term, I guess the AD is willing to settle for mediocrity. A Pelini-coached team will never make it very far with his poor example of leadership, and his inability to truly coach. We keep hearing he's a fundamentals kind of coach, but week in and week out we see a complete lack of execution. So if the guy can't coach, and is a bad representative for the entire Nebraska program and university, what's the point in keeping him. My guess is you'll start to see more and more empty seats at Memorial stadium, and Eichorst can be known as the AD that helped bring along an end to the infamous sellout streak. What is the

It's more realistic to see the # of fans that travel for away games diminish well before the sell out streak ends. As others have said, empty seats doesn't equate to a non sell out. I know peoples emotions r running hot but you're being ignorant if you think fans will not be excited as always come July when the CFB craze returns.

  13. And the 3rd string qb was responsible for the crappy D today, or the inept coaching(lol fake punt).

There's more the a 3rd string qb and injuries

In defense of the crappy D, half of their drives started in NU territory. Our D was gassed from the jump. I have said this before, but rarely do I see Beck cal a game that aids the D, they get a stop, O TO's for a short field, Iowa scores and Beck goes all hurry up for another quick 3 and out. Throw in a shanked punt and they are worn out. Add in the questions about S&C and you have the perfect storm to make any D look bad.

With the staff, it is like the D coaches its phase, O its phase and ST ceases to exist. Neither phase complementing the other or trying to help the other phases out. Coaching? Yes. Lack of experienced staff? Yes. Could it be fixed by firing Bo? Possibly. Same with coordinators. Depends on who we pay/get.

THIS THIS THIS, could not agree more. Would much rather see Beck get the ax and allow Pelini to bring in a coordinator who can handle the load, gameplan and make adjustments that not only benefits the offense but has the defense's consideration in mind as well. This is a topic that sometimes is discussed on here, seems to go away after wins and comes back after heartbreaking losses. The play calling this year has been consistently bailed out by the superb play of AA and will never be what is needed to be a consistent top 15 program which is what we all seem to aspire for realistically.

  14. no one can argue the success he had in a coordinator spot, we constantly talk about bringing in a big name that has experience at the college level with game plans, recruiting, able to make adjustments.... why not lane as a coordinator spot?

    • Fire 1
  15. All of us on this board seem to have the consensus that our coordinators are suspect at best and still seem to be torn on the Bo front. Maybe taking the plunge on Lane as HC would be a go big or go home move, what if we bring him in as coordinator? Have to agree that Lane has always been able to recruit top talent, he's got a way with the parents between his college/NFL pedigree and sweet talkin jib jibe of his. I for one wouldn't mind seeing a Bo Pelini/Lane Kiffin roamin the same sidelines...

  16. At the end of the day, what's troubling is having conversations with my buddies who are huge college football fans (live out in the bay area, CA btw) and their response after the michigan st/nebraska game simply was ""I didn't watch the game, Nebraska football just isn't relevant anymore. I can't remember the last time I watched a NU game and enjoyed what I was watching."

I asked a follow up question telling me the last game he could distinctly remember watching on his own where we did something positive (besides the games they've joined me with at the husker bar here in San FRancisco) his first response was one of Taylor's break through games in Washington and then a few of the come backs from last year

Take it for what its worth, obviously my buddies don't represent the nation when it comes to CFB viewing, but at the same time, they are born and raised Bay Area/Pac 12 fans who are completely neutral to Nebraska.

  17. I would love this match up... Remember last year, people were assuming we'd be taken to town by Georgia and we were in it for the bulk of the game. bring on the best team possible, Football fans outside of Husker/LSU fan base will watch this bowl matchup, would much rather have that then some scrub team on a pre-New year bowl

  18. I don't think anybody is saying this is a moral victory and we should hand out trophies. Why can't there be some middle ground between the we're pathetic, mediocre, terrible, a joke, etc. point of view and the, we're fine there's a lot of programs that can't win 9-10 games every year point of view? Clearly not all is fine in Huskerland, but that doesn't make the football program a cesspool either.

I'm not saying this a moral victory and I'd agree its somewhat pathetic we still turn it over like this and it costs us games. I'm just saying, the way we turned it over today is no reflection of the staff and I'm damn proud of how our defense responded having to rush back on the field and defend on a moments notice like they did today

  19. I apologize if this thread has already been started or duplicated, but after a loss like this I was compelled to say this.

I am damn proud of this team and here's why-

We turned it over an inordinate amount of times.

YET- we were in it till the end...

We had the gameplan in place, our defense knew what they were doing. At the end of the day, our players did not make the plays. Whether that means not making the tackle (which was great btw, this defense is growing each week... WHICH I LOVE), or making the right read on offense (which we did, is it just me or could they not stop us up the middle?).

I guess the whole point of this post is that this was a great game for this team. I know we lost at home, however, this was the best team we've played all year besides UCLA. I've warned on these boards that we shouldn't take the NW and MU game to our heads as both of those teams had problems of their own.

But I am damn proud of this team. Those talking about QB change are out of their minds. If we don't turn the ball over this is a close game or we win going away.

MSU is a good team with a great defense and we proved you can move the ball on them on the ground. We just shot ourselves in the foot with the crap turnovers.
