  1. At the football game in Seattle we were on some Husker tour and took a boat to the game. While standing in line I was adding up how much cash I needed to pay for drinks and my buddy corrected my math. I said oops I guess I can blame my UNL education for that. Right in front of me Harvey Perlman turned around and gave me that trademark weasley look. I don't know how he has stayed around as long as he has.

One time when I was picking up my wife from the Admin Building on campus to get her fricking PhD certified and finalized, I pulled up and stopped in a reserved space for a grand total of one minute while my wife walked to the car. Turns out the reserved space was for the Chancellor, but it was late in the afternoon and it was only for a minute so I wasn't worried. As I backed out, a car was pulling into the lot at the same time. It was Harvey. He had an annoyed look on his face. So yeah, he needs to go.

  2. Alexander made a couple tackles, particularly that open-field tackle on the jet sweep mentioned in the OP, that have too often this year been missed tackles by other players and turned into huge gains. I liked what I saw out of this kid Saturday.

  3. I wouldn't worry about it at all. If a coach needs to be fired, whether or not it would lead to a couple good players transferring out should be irrelevant to the decision. The right coach means more to any program than a handful of players. But its likely a moot point anyway.

  4. That play was lousy and the excuses are lousy. I almost thought that this Corey was named McKeon instead of Cooper.

The guy's legs needed to be stopped, and there was no effort at that in this attempted tackle or "push" or whatever.

    But I'm glad we won.

  5. I'm elated with the win against Penn State and have come back around to realizing that Bo deserves to stay, after having been down on the idea for much of the season.

Seriously? Beating a 6-5 Penn State team in overtime, that has losses to Indiana, & Minny is all it took to change your mind? Every issue that has plagued this team for 3 seasons was right there, front and center trying to lose us a game we should have dominated. We're a 3 inch wide extra point attempt away from a loss and yet you're on the Bo-wagon because there's another W in the column? Come on man, quit flip flopping.

The damn special teams play is enough for me to want Bo out. I've never, at any level, seen punt coverage like that. Why do we even bother to put more than 3-4 guys out on the field? What the hell...that is a glaring beacon of light into Bo's HC ability. How can he watch that week in and week out and not step up and make a change? That's an HC duty, but he's either got his head in the sand, or just doesn't care. That's one glimpse so obvious even the casual fan can see the deficiency. But I can guarantee you the same deficiencies exists in other aspects of the game as well, most of us just aren't smart enough to see it so we go on thinking things are great. But opposing coaches see it.

There is more to my evolving opinion than just the outcome of this game alone, but the purpose of this thread was to discuss the possibility or necessity of staff changes. On that topic, my opinion is that Bo should stay but must make some staff changes. To not do so would be to continue to bang his and our heads against the wall for another year.

To state my reasons for "flip flopping" does not belong in this thread. If I get 5 +1's (attention whore!) I'll start a new thread to discuss my opinions in response to your bitter post. But then again, opinions about Bo's job security have been beaten to death already around here, so it's quite all right if no one cares about my particular opinion on that. It probably will not be worth it to get in a debate with the perpetually stubborn negative nellies.

I'm elated with the win against Penn State and have come back around to realizing that Bo deserves to stay, after having been down on the idea for much of the season. But I think perhaps Sipple is a little too caught up in the moment if he thinks no staff changes at all need to occur after the season.

Bottom line, it would be wrong to break up this staff. To break up this team. It would be dead wrong to pull the rug from underneath a program that shows so much promise — at least when it's not stubbing its toe with a turnover or mental mistake.

Granted, it's not exactly the Denver Broncos.

However, after this triumph — despite all of Nebraska's injuries and pervasive negativity swirling around the program — it would seem almost criminal to fire anybody associated with the program.

With this roller coaster of a season (again), how would you guys feel if we go into next season without making any changes at all?

  7. Single gunman or only one?

    Who was behind it?

Single gunman. Lee Harvey Oswald acting alone. That's my guess. There are plenty of other possibilities but sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one.

Hell of a lucky shot, though.

With a crappy rifle. On a road with an S turn. From guy who tested "marksman", which is the lowest score one can have to stay in the Marines.

In the episode of Quantum Leap where he became Lee Harvey Oswald, he tested as "Sharpshooter" as a Marine and acted alone during the assassination. However, in the original history, Jackie was killed too, so Sam changed history and leaped out of there.

  8. One of the things that baffles me about the SEC is Missouri's performance, and perhaps my opinion in this regard is baised by my own hatred of Mizzou.

But Missouri was always a middling team in the Big 12, that only had their highest moments when Nebraska was at its worst, but even at their absolute best, Mizzou still lost a couple games and were unable to bring home any conference championships to their dusty, lonely trophy case. So they go to the big bad SEC and suddenly are able to compete with everyone and be among the best in the country? Their resources, coaching, and talent are about the same as ever. Are we to believe that a Pinkel coached Mizzou team suddenly got that much better while facing stiffer competition? The same questions apply for Texas A&M, even though they are already a step above Mizzou in resources, talent, and coaching (Sumlin and Manziel certainly helped).

It's just hard to fathom that Mizzou and TAMU both left an apparently struggling conference but are having so much more success against teams who are supposed to be so much tougher. I know a lot can change in a program from year to year, but it just doesn't smell right when a couple non-championship caliber Big 12 teams can go to the SEC and magically be better.

  9. I'll remember Taylor as a flawed quarterback

I'll remember him as a fumble machine,

I'll remember him for having about as much elite speed as he had injuries.

I'll remember him for gutting out those injuries,

    I'll remember his blazing speed

I'll remember the vitriol and hatred heaped on him.

I'll remember him (hopefully, oddly) as the quarterback who played with deeply flawed defenses,

I'll remember him as a guy walking out the door with umpteen-dozen all-time records,
