  1. The only mass exodus that I remember ( I wasn't there but heard about it) was halftime OSU lite Cowboys 2007 wt NU down by 35 or so at half - the death nail for BC and Peterson.

I was at that Okie State game and stayed until the bitter end in a mostly empty stadium. There was something about that game that seemed historically significant, like I made a point of wathching it all. Kind of like the little boy taking responsibility for shooting Old Yeller himself.

However, I turned off the Ohio State game in the 3rd Quarter, in my mind comparing it to Okie State, and thinking if we went through all this again, NU would never be back to the top. I only rushed back in the 4th Quarter after flabbergasted texts from friends and my brother. So that night, I was a f'ing fairweather fan, but never again will I shut it off early.

Ironically, when I shut off the Ohio State game, I spent time with my wife instead, until I ran back to watch the end of the comeback. F'ing fairweather husband.

  2. This mystery(?) douchebag sparked nationwide discussion, generated countless web hits on message boards and news sites, strangely unified much of Husker nation in Bo's favor at a time when he was under fire, and created excitement and interest during what would otherwise be an awkward week. Maybe he's the hero we deserve after all. Then again, I bet lots of us lost some work productivity this week because of all this too. Ass!

  3. I went with Bo. Obviously Cal... was a horrible fit and didn't help us but some teams during his tenure weren't regarded as very good teams if I remember correctly. He had a decent year when we lost to OU in the CCG but other than that nothing special.

Now the reason I picked Pelini is based all on perception to me. Pelini has had teams that were expected to contend for conference titles, BCS bowls and if something crazy happens a MNC. He has yet to accomplish any of those things. Now not accomplishing these things would be acceptable if he wouldn't continue to get blown out on national TV in the biggest games of the year. I just feel like the program has stalled and we are headed for another 10 win season with no CCG win.

What? Every single one of Bo's teams has contended for conference titles. And while Bo obviously hasn't gotten over the hump of what we had expected him to do, "another 10 win season" is certainly better than anything Callahan pulled off. I don't think Bo is great, but he got us back to a quality baseline. Callahan and Pederson dipped far below anything that ever should be allowed to happen.

  4. I just cant help but think we're heading for a changing of the guard here at quarterback. Something similar to what we saw in '92 with Frazier and Grant. I know, Taylor is much better than Grant was, and Armstrong is obviously no Frazier (yet?). But if Tommy comes out saturday and lights it up, and the guys respond to him, and the offense shows a strong rythm and fluidity, it's gonna be impossible to ignore, regardless of Taylor's health. Then, Taylor comes back, the offense struggles some, it's really gonna be tough to not change directions.

I can imagine a conservative game plan that doesn't count on Armstrong to make a bunch of big plays if he gets the start, thus preventing any major QB controversies.

  5. I always laugh when people act as if it's some sort of betrayal for someone to look at other jobs. There's never really any reason for anyone in any job not to continually take a look at their options. Occasional attrition is simply the cost of business. Any business. Even for folks who like where they are.

No matter how bad, good, or average Bo or any of his assistants are, we all know none of them are going to be around forever. They should all be keeping their eyes open for the best opportunities, whether it is to take a promotion or to find someplace to land if they get fired. And the AD better damn well have a list in mind for potential replacements at any given time. At the same time, everyone still has a job to do.

  6. It's an interesting bit of sociology how different personalities fit into specific online communities, even when those communities have the same central purpose such as rooting for the Huskers. I used to lurk on other sites but couldn't even imagine paying to post on any of them. The personality on HuskerBoard is much more homey than any other.

    And the price is right.

  7. Well, a lot of our own fanbase has traveled rather quickly between worrying about losing Pelini or Beck to promotion and wanting him fired. I don't know how much of Oregon is actually worried about losing Frost to a HC gig somewhere yet, but if they have a few weak games, they might be just as quick to want him canned. Fans are funny that way. Let's see him put an entire resume together first.

  8. Bo is the victim here. He thought he was speaking in private. Yes, he might have used bad judgement in that nowadays this is no such thing as privacy, but whoever released the tape is the villain, as far as I am concerned.

The "weasel tipster" is a cowardly douchebag, no doubt. But come on, Bo is no victim. He made the statements on his own, in a setting where he certainly should have known better. Bo took ownership of it, faced the music, and has survived another day, so now we can all move on. But to think he was a victim is just silly.

  9. So because Tom knew about this a year ago it suddenly makes everything okay?

I'm failing to see the logic here...

OTOH, if the admin already knew about it and dealt with it, should Pelini be punished again just because the public found out?

I'm curious what his punishment was.

Of course, there is no punishment greater than knowing you disappointed Tom Osborne.

  10. It unlawful to ... deliberately intercept ... through the use of any “electronic, mechanical, or other device,” any ... oral communications, unless the interceptor has previously obtained a court order permitting the interception or is a party to the communication, or one of the parties to the communication has previously consented to the interception.

    State v. Strohl, 255 Neb. 918, 923, 587 N.W.2d 675, 680 (1999)

Sharpe and Bo are talking. Can you consider the tech guy a party to a communication that was off-air? Yes, Bo should know that there are mics in the room. There are also mics in tons of rooms in schools, offices, etc. You still can have an expectation of privacy. I'm presuming Sharpe isn't consenting to this or behind this, so it would seem this one-party rule is a little weaker in this situation.

To clear it up, there are one-party states and there are two-party states.

"One-party" basically means ANY party. Anyone in the room can record.

"Two-party" essentially means EVERY party, you'd have to get everyone's consent. Nebraska is a one-party state. And I agree with others, the reasonable expectation to privacy would be negated by the presence of media equipment and multiple people in the room. I can't imagine any legal implications that can be legitimately brought up from this recording, unless it was used in an attempt at extortion.
